Question5: Does MiDPLAY run with Soundcard XYZ ? Question6: Why does MiDPLAY not support Soundcard XYZ ? Question7: Do you want me to send some money ? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q1: MiDPLAY crashes as soon as I execute it. What is wrong ? A1: This is most likely a problem with your graphix card. For fastest possible screen access, MiDPLAY uses VESA 2.0 if available. However, this sometimes causes trouble, as some cards do not behave as MiDPLAY expects. Try to run MiDPLAY like this: MP -V1 That will force MiDPLAY to use the VESA 1.x interface. Q2: I can see the graphix, but there is no sound. What is wrong ? A2: You should have installed your Soundcard properly ! ::SB-MIDI:: If you want to use a SoundBlaster-compatible-midi-interface, make sure that the BLASTER-string is set. This also includes most waveblaster-expansion-boards ! ::MPU401:: (or GM-Expansion in some strange handbooks) If you want to use a Roland MPU401-compatible-midi-interface, find out the base-adress your MPU401 is configured to. In most cases it is 330h, sometimes 300h. It may also be a diffrent one. Try it like this: mp -m330 and if it worx, just edit your MP.INI to setup this adress permanently. Q3: Colors seem to be wrong or screen keeps staying black. Am I too damn stupid ? A3: Your VGA-card may have a problem with direct palette manipulation. Just open MP.INI with a text-editor and set the entry "BiosPal" (in section "General") to "BiosPal=Yes". Q4: Player bombs out with "not enough memory". What the fxck is wrong ? A4: If MiDPLAY failed to init all graphix correctly last time you started it, it may leave unusable files in the MiDPLAY directory. Just erase all TMP-files in the MiDPLAY installation directory like this: "del *.TMP". Q5: Does MiDPLAY run with Soundcard XYZ ? A5: It should work with any SoundBlaster-compatible, MPU-compatible (General- Midi) soundcard and with the all SoundBlaster AWE cards. Q6: Why does MiDPLAY not support Soundcard XYZ ? A6: Many people asked for support of their cards (GUS MAX,...). The Problem is: I DONT HAVE THOSE CARDS ! Its very hard to support a card without testing. Send a free development-sample and I will implement native support for that card. Q7: Do you want me to send some money ? A7: YES ! Please do so. Last month I couldn't even pay my phone-bill...
