This is a partial mirror of simtel.net's msdos archive, downloaded 3/15/2012 via the following command-line: wget --mirror --no-parent --retr-symlinks --reject "download-*exe" ftp://ftp.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/msdos/ The intent of the SIMTEL MSDOS archive was to contain files *FOR* MS-DOS. After Digital River took hold of Walnut Creek CDROM the people maintaining SIMTEL now thought the MSDOS archive should include files *ABOUT* MS-DOS, which included windows programs and macintosh programs and other junk. This bothered me immensely, so this mirror has been cleaned up in the following ways: - All Windows 3.1 files that had been mis-classified as "msdos" were removed. Criteria was any .zip or .exe filename that did not fit the DOS 8.3 filename spec; other criteria included if the .exe had the string "This program cannot be run in DOS mode" or similar included. See the scripts "wrongfiles" and "wasted". 3.9 gig of non-MSDOS crap was removed this way (average filesize was 4MB) - All Digital River executable downloaders (ie. instead of myfile.zip there was dm/download-myfile.zip.exe) that had somehow been retrieved despite the --reject wget option were removed, and their dm/ directories removed. It is inevitable that some cruft was left in (I did not scan inside every single.zip), but what was 7G of noise is now 2.4G of signal.
