Orchid Technology SoundWave 32 and GameWave 32 Audio Utilities Upgrade v1.0 --------------------------------------- The file you have downloaded, S&G-UTIL.EXE contains the complete files from the Audio Utilities Upgrade disk v1.0. These audio utilities (DMIXER.EXE and WMIDI.EXE discussed below) are appropriate for any model of GameWave 32 or SoundWave 32. This README.1ST file contains instructions for making a floppy installation disk, so you can install the new utilities. You have already completed the first step, by unpacking the S&G-UTIL.EXE file and reading this. When you unpack S&G-UTIL.EXE you should have the following files and subdirectory: disk.id 46 2-21-95 1:00a install.dat 5,792 2-21-95 1:00a install.exe 109,329 8-10-92 1:00a install.hlp 3,584 4-05-95 1:00a readme.1st 5,641 8-03-95 audio\dmixer.exe 183,024 12-15-94 1:00a audio\mqsystem.dll 29,686 3-31-94 1:00a audio\orcdde.dll 3,296 4-13-93 1:00a audio\orchinst.dat 108 2-10-95 1:00a audio\orchinst.exe 6,048 4-13-93 1:00a audio\threed.vbx 64,544 12-29-93 1:00a audio\wmidi.exe 129,232 12-06-94 1:00a audio\wmidi.hlp 47,700 12-07-94 1:00a Using your new Audio Utilities ------------------------------ 1. The Audio Utility installer program (INSTALL.EXE) should be run from a floppy disk. If you didn't unpack S&G-UTIL.EXE to a floppy disk then do so now. The packed file has a subdirectory embedded into it. In order to unpack and create the subdirectory you'll need to use the "-d" option when unpacking the files. For example: S&G-UTIL A: -d NOTE: If your floppy drive letter is not "A:" then substitute the appropriate drive letter. 2. Log onto your floppy drive and run the INSTALL.EXE program to install the driver files to your hard drive. You should run INSTALL.EXE from DOS, not from Windows. The INSTALL.EXE program is menu driven, and fairly self explanatory. If you have questions during any part of the installation process, press the F1 key for context sensitive help. Once you have completed INSTALL, the utility installation is complete. The INSTALL.EXE program copies over a utility for Microsoft Windows (WMIDI.EXE) and a DOS utility (DMIXER.EXE). These files are located in the ORCHID subdirectory (unless you choose an alternate directory name). DMIXER.EXE -- The Orchid Audio DOS Control Panel utility allows you to easily fine tune your instrument settings for DOS games and sequencing applications. Run the DOS Control Panel from the DOS prompt by typing: CD\ORCHID DMIXER The DOS Control Panel features allows you to select the recording input volume level for these selected devices: CD Audio, Wave, FM Synthesis, or Master Volume. Input devices available to record from are MIC, LINE and CD. In addition, you may enable or disable various MIDI channels. WMIDI.EXE -- Under the Orchid Program Group in Windows, double click on the Orchid MIDI Windows Control Panel. The Orchid MIDI Windows Control Panel allows you to easily configure your MIDI Input and Output device(s) and fine tune instrument settings. The Orchid MIDI Control Panel has five menu selections: File, Input Device, Output Device, Options and Help. Use your mouse to click on the menu or hold down the ALT key and press the underlined letter. Note: We recommend using the on- line help to understand all of the options available to you. Troubleshooting --------------- 1. The main question Orchid Technical Support receives about this driver installation is regarding proper unpacking of the S&G-UTIL.EXE file. If the utilities don't seem to be installing correctly please review step number 1 in the previous section titled "Using your new Audio Utilities" for instructions on unpacking the S&G-UTIL.EXE file. If the subdirectory embedded in the file isn't unpacked correctly the drivers won't install properly.
