The IP address must have an entry. * SUBNET MASK is a series of bits used to identify the subnet number portion of an IP address. It is four fields separated by periods, in the form: w.x.y.z Each field (w, x, y, and z) represents a range of possible numbers from 0 to 255. If your network uses subnets you must use the correct subnet mask. (This reduces unnecessary network traffic.) Obtain the subnet mask from your network administrator. If your network does not use subnets, then you must use one of these values: For class A addresses: 255.0.0.0 For class B addresses: 255.255.0.0 For class C addresses: 255.255.255.0 + I* DEFAULT GATEWAY (ROUTER) is the IP address of the default router. A router is a hardware device that connects networks together to create an internetwork. This address is composed of four fields separated by periods, in the form: w.x.y.z Each field (w, x, y, and z) represents a range of possible numbers from 0 to 255. This address is optional and may be left blank. * NUMBER OF NETBIOS SESSIONS. For servers, peer workstations, and MS OS/2 workstations the range is 1-254 and the default is 40. For MS-DOS workstations the range is 1-22 and the default is 6. This parameter is required and must have an entry. For more detailed information refer to the Microsoft LAN Manager Installation and Configuration Guide. accepts your entries. If this is an installation, you proceed to the next dialog box. If this a reconfiguration, you return to the Setup screen. returns without change to the previous dialog box. IDNR and Sockets Settings ------------------------------------------------------- (Click scroll bar or press Page Down to see more text.) * Username: the username your system will provide to a host for authentication. The default entry is your LAN Manager username. * Hostname: the host name your workstation will report to the host when using the remote services. The default entry is your LAN Manager computername. Enter the Domain Name Resolver (DNR) Parameters only if your TCP/IP network has a domain name service (DNS) server. See your network administrator if you don't know if you have a DNS or if you don't know its IP address. If your network has a DNS and you choose to configure the DNR parameters, the DNR module will be loaded with your sockets and Telnet applications to resolve hostname to IP address mappings. This allows you to specify remote hosts by hostname without knowing specific IP addresses. * Use DNS for hostname resolution: Check this option to invoke DNR from the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. * Primary nameserver: The IP address of the first DNS that you want the DNR to consult when attempting to resolve hostname to IP address mappings. + I * Secondary nameserver: the IP address of the DNS you want the DNR to consult if the Primary nameserver fails. * Domain name suffix: this suffix is automatically appended to any hostname for DNS processing. For example, if the domain name suffix is: microsoft.com a request to the DNS with the rsh command: rsh lm22svr -l maria cat /etc/motd will be received by the DNS as: lm22svr.microsoft.com Ask your network administrator what you should choose as a domain name suffix. This value is usually different than the LAN Manager domain. * Enable Windows sockets: Check this option to invoke SOCKETS from the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. * Number of Sockets: This parameter specifies the maximum number of sockets that can be made available to applications at one time. The maximum value for this parameter is 22; the minimum is 1. Note: applications may use more than one socket to provide a service. Consider this when trying to maximize available memory. Note: The total number of sockets and NetBIOS sessions combined may not exceed 22. accepts your entries. returns without change to the previous dialog box. INetwork Adapter Drivers ------------------------------------------------------- (Click scroll bar or press Page Down to see more text.) Default is AUTO, meaning the cache size is calculated by LAN Manager. accepts your entries and takes you to the next dialog box. cancels changes to this dialog box, restores its previous settings, and returns you to the previous dialog box. IDetach LAN Manager ------------------------------------------------------- (Click scroll bar or press Page Down to see more text.) The Detach command separates the LAN Manager software from the operating system. Issue the Detach command before you upgrade either the LAN Manager software or the MS OS/2 operating system. NOTE: When upgrading from LAN Manager version 2.0 to 2.2a, before detaching you MUST run the 20CLEAN.CMD utility. Refer to the Microsoft LAN Manager Installation and Configuration Guide for instructions. Detach accomplishes these tasks: * Removes and saves all LAN Manager information from the STARTUP.CMD, CONFIG.SYS, OS2SYS.INI, and OS2.INI files * Removes and saves all permissions (ACLs) from volumes, directories, and files * Saves the SETUP.INI file (which maintains this computer's LAN Manager configuration) * Stops Fault Tolerance (if installed and started) * Removes and saves the extended DISK0x.SYS file (if it is installed), and restores the original file All removed information is stored on the hard disk and is reinstalled if the Attach command is subsequently issued. cancels the detach attempt and returns you to the Setup screen. detaches LAN Manager. IAttach LAN Manager ------------------------------------------------------- (Click scroll bar or press Page Down to see more text.) The Attach command is used to restore LAN Manager functionality to the computer after the LAN Manager software has been detached. Typically, attach would be performed after detaching, and then upgrading or updating the MS OS/2 operating system. Attach accomplishes these tasks: * Restores all LAN Manager information to the STARTUP.CMD and CONFIG.SYS files * Restores the extended DISK0x.SYS file (if it was installed before the detach) * Restores references to the LAN Manager spotter to the OS2SYS.INI and OS2.INI files * Restores all permissions (ACLs) to volumes, directories, and files * Restores the SETUP.INI file (which maintains this computer's LAN Manager configuration) If Fault Tolerance is installed on this computer, the Fault Tolerance system must be restarted after an Attach. See the Microsoft LAN Manager Administrator's Guide for instructions. cancels the attach attempt and returns you to the Setup screen. attaches LAN Manager. ISelect a Server Role ------------------------------------------------------- (Click scroll bar or press Page Down to see more text.) You must choose one of these server roles, which exist in relation to your implementation of domain-wide logon security. (Refer to the Microsoft LAN Manager Administrator's Guide for a discussion of security concepts and issues.) You select one of the four roles by pressing the UP or DOWN arrow key until the desired role is highlighted. The four server roles are listed below. * PRIMARY DOMAIN CONTROLLER is the server that maintains the master copy of the domain's user accounts database. This server can validate logon requests in the domain. Each network domain that uses logon security must have one primary domain controller. * BACKUP DOMAIN CONTROLLER has and uses copies of the domain's user accounts database, and can also validate logon requests. Having backup domain controllers improves network performance and reliability by spreading the logon processing load among several servers, and allowing logon validation to continue even if the primary domain controller is unavailable. If you choose backup domain controller, later on in the installation process you will be asked to log on as an administrator in this domain. You will need a valid administrator username and password. + I* MEMBER SERVER has and uses copies of the domain-wide user accounts database, but cannot validate logon requests. Because a member server doesn't spend time processing logon requests, this role is a good choice for servers that will have heavy workloads. Member server is the default selection. If you choose member server, later on in the installation process you will be asked to log on as an administrator in this domain. You will need a valid administrator username and password. * STANDALONE SERVER has its own user accounts database, and does not participate in domain-wide logon security. accepts your selection and proceeds. cancels and returns without change to the previous dialog box. ILog on as Administrator of This Domain ------------------------------------------------------- (Click scroll bar or press Page Down to see more text.) In an earlier dialog box, you chose a role (backup domain controller or member server) for this server that now requires you to log on as an administrator before the server installation can be completed. Provide a username and password that are valid for an administrator in this domain. accepts your entries and continues installation. continues this installation without logging you on as an administrator. INo HPFS Partitions ------------------------------------------------------- (Click scroll bar or press Page Down to see more text.) LAN Manager has determined that this computer was configured during MS OS/2 installation for FAT hard disk partitions. This is acceptable, since LAN Manager is compatible with both FAT and HPFS partitions. However, a server requires HPFS on one or more volumes in order for Setup to install HPFS386, LAN Manager's enhancement of the HPFS file system. HPFS386 is required to implement these optional LAN Manager features: * HPFS performance enhancements * Fault tolerance * Local security To install local security, the boot partition must be an HPFS386 partition. Volumes must be formatted for the desired file system before installing LAN Manager. For information on installing or reinstalling the MS OS/2 operating system software and specifying HPFS or FAT partitions, see your MS OS/2 manuals. For information about local security, and the fault tolerance system, see the Microsoft LAN Manager Administrator's Guide. proceeds with the LAN Manager installation using the FAT partition. cancels the LAN Manager installation. You can then reinstall the MS OS/2 operating system software, specifying an HPFS boot partition. Iserver's role in domain ------------------------------------------------------- (Click scroll bar or press Page Down to see more text.) During server installation, a decision is made as to the server's role in its domain. There are four server roles, and they exist in relation to the network's implementation of domain-wide security. * PRIMARY DOMAIN CONTROLLER is the server that maintains the master copy of the domain's user accounts database and can validate logon requests in the domain. Each network domain that uses logon security must have one primary domain controller. * BACKUP DOMAIN CONTROLLER has and uses copies of the domain's user accounts database, and can also validate logon requests. Having backup domain controllers improves network performance and reliability by spreading the logon processing load among several servers and allowing logon validation to continue even if the primary domain controller is unavailable. * MEMBER SERVER has and uses copies of the domain-wide user accounts database, but cannot validate logon requests. Because a member server doesn't spend time processing logon requests, this role is a good choice for servers that will have heavy workloads. Member server is the default selection. * STANDALONE SERVER has user-level security, its own user accounts database, and does not participate in domain-wide logon security. During installation, the Setup program is copied to the computer's hard disk for later use in managing the computer's configuration. ISetup screen ------------------------------------------------------- The LAN Manager menu-oriented interface for server and workstation configuration. It is available only after LAN Manager software installation is complete. Ishare access denials ------------------------------------------------------- An event that can be audited (logged) on a server or a peer workstation. Auditing this event records each failed attempt to access a shared resource. However, if a shared resource allows for an unlimited number of users, share access denials will not be audited. Ishare-level security ------------------------------------------------------- The type of security that limits access to each shared resource by requiring a password. Permissions are assigned to the resource (rather than to the user). All users who know the password can use the resource within the bounds of the permissions assigned for the resource. Share-level security is available for servers and peer workstations. Ishutdown command file ------------------------------------------------------- A parameter of the UPS service (available from servers and peer workstations). Specifies the .CMD batch file to be run before the server shuts down. User-level security is available for servers and peer workstations. Iuser/group list changes ------------------------------------------------------- On a server or a peer workstation with user-level security, one of the events that can be audited (logged). Auditing this event records each user alteration of the user accounts database. Iusername ------------------------------------------------------- The name by which the local area network identifies a user. A username and password are required for the user to gain access to the network. The username can be the same as the computername. This parameter can be set or changed in the Workstation Settings dialog box. Ivolume password ------------------------------------------------------- A password implemented for volumes (hard disk partitions) when a server has local security enabled.
