This program is a hideous concoction made by super-glueing a TAR
extractor onto the back end of GUNZIP.  I didn't actually use the
GNU TAR sources to write my TAR unpacker, they're new.  Maybe that's
less than clever, but it was easier than tussling with the TAR code.
The README for the GUNZIP distribution that I started from is included
as README.GZP.  I forgot where I found this thing, but it was called
gzipsrc.zip.

This thing works with Visual C++ 1.52, and could be shoehorned to work
with a bunch more compilers.
