You have probably all heard about the UltraSound 3D sound by now. If not, please refer to some of the press releases or the documentation contained in our UltraSound software developers toolkit. Basically, it allows the UltraSound to place a sound in a 360 degree sphere around you, the user, from just two speakers/headphones. No other hardware is required, except a GUS of course One thing to keep in mind when listening to this demo is that we are NOT games or demos programmers. So don't expect amazing explosions with awesome visuals to go along with it. We'll leave that up to the professional game and demo publishers. Yes, people are working on these types of programs and when they are available I'll be making them available on our BBS. We did supply a sample 3D sound file with our software developers toolkit called WARP3D.F3D. This was simply a sample 3D sound file for developers to try and program for the 3D sound format, NOT a demo. So don't thrash on it to hard. The sound samples in this demo are 16bit 44.1kHz sounds. So unlike WARP3D you won't have any hissing. 2.0.0 How to use FPTEST ======================= To listen to this 3D demo simply type FPTEST at the command line. You will then be asked to calibrate your joystick. Once that is done simply press a number between 1 and 5 to change the sound effect. #1 Bell #2 Engine (runs continuously until another sound is selected) #3 Footstep (this is a good one) #4 Laser zap #5 Explosion Note that at different frequencies the same stored sound could provide many different effects. Although this demo is sound effects only, music patches could also be frequency shifted while maintaining 3D localization. 3.0.0 Hints and Tricks ====================== Here are some hints and tricks to get the best results out of this 3D demo - Use headphones instead of speakers. Yes, the 3D effects still work on speakers but the effect less pronounced. If you want to use speakers make sure they are level with your ears, about 3 feet apart and aimed for the middle of your head. - Use an ANALOG style joystick, not a SWITCH STICK. - If you are having problems localizing the sound simply close your eyes and concentrate. - You will NEED an UltraSound with at least 512K of memory and an Analog joystick for this demo to work. One very important thing to keep in mind, is that we are all surrounded by 3D sound EVERY DAY! So don't expect mind blowing orgasmic audio. The big thing to keep in mind is that the 3D sounds you are listening to are being created ARTIFICIALLY. With that in mind, enjoy the demo. END
