I.   OVERVIEW:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

   This README file pertains to the current release of the firmware flash
   file for the 10/100 Ethernet/SCSI model MarkNet S internal network adapter.
   Until further notice, all other MarkNet S models should continue using
   release 1.8.19 made available 5/98.

   Package file:     S_9_9.exe
   Flash file name:  1_9_9.psh
   FLASH RELEASE     1.9.9
   Release date:     5/22/98

   NOTE: The flash file extension, .psh, is used by the various utilities
   to distinguish between the various flash file types.  The file
   extension must not be changed.
   
II.  KEY FEATURES AND BENEFITS OF THE RELEASE:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

III. LIMITATIONS AND COMPATIBILITY OF THE RELEASE:::::::::::::::::::::::::

   One of the following methods are required to update the MarkNet S with
   this release of firmware flash:
   
   1) TFTP directly to MarkNet S
        tftp>  bin
        tftp>  put filename.psh /dev/flash
   2) MarkVision for Windows 95 Version 3.01 or greater
   3) MarkVision for Windows NT Version 3.01 or greater
   4) MarkVision for Windows 3.1 Version 5.30 or greater
   5) MarkVision for OS2 Version 2.11 or greater
   6) MarkVision for Unix Version 3.1 or greater
   7) Any version of MarkVision for Macintosh.

   OS/2 Network Printer Utility version 5.82 or greater is needed for LexLink
   printing using OS/2 pre-Warp utilities when using firmware revision 1.8.19
   or greater.

   The Lexmark Network Printer Utility and the MarkNet family of network
   adapters is supported by Lexmark. For technical support call
   Lexmark Technical Support at 606-232-3000 between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. ET

   Lexmark electronic services provide access to product information,
   print drivers, firmware updates, and utility program updates.  The Lexmark
   electronic services include:
   - WorldWide Web (http://www.lexmark.com)
   - CompuServe (GO LEXMARK)
   - Dial-in to the Lexmark bulletin board:  (606) 232-5238

   OptraImage Improvements
    a) added support for Ricoh IS01 scan unit (used with OptraImage 24 Mono)
    b) added support for Optra K 1220 printer
    c) improved quality of copies made from flat bed of all scan units
    d) improved quality and speed of Mixed mode copies
    e) added preliminary support for other languages besides English
    f) reserving printer upon initial button press and for 20 seconds after copy
    g) allowing initiation of a second copy following scan of first (i.e. no longer
       waiting for a copy to be printed before returning to a Ready state)
    h) provided 4 additional brightness levels (for a total of 9)
    i) added ability to manually adjust color output

      is set, the username is: MarkNet.
