This is the README file for NCON.EXE which contains NETCON.EXE Version 1.12 which replaces NETCON.EXE v1.00 that ships with NNS v1.0 for NetWare v2.15C and above and NetWare v3.x. The following files are included for this revision: NETCON.EXE 418998 03-16-93 8:27a NETCON.DOC this file Purpose: 1) NETCON.EXE Version 1.12 supports NCP Packet Signature. 2) The membership list associated with a Profile can contain either a USER object or a GROUP object. If a GROUP object is entered as the member of the profile, then each member of that GROUP will be assigned to that profile. If you were to select one of the users that is in the given group and check the profiles that he/she belongs to, the profile that the GROUP had been assigned to would appear in the list. When the group EVERYONE is added to a profile then every user in the domain will have rights to that profile. When you create a new user in the domain that user is added to the group EVERYONE but is subsequently not added to the profile that the group EVERYONE belongs to. With NETCON.EXE Version 1.12 when a new user is created and group EVERYONE is a member of a profile, the new user is given the needed rights to the given profile. 2) When synchronizing objects (users) across a domain NETCON.EXE v1.00 would return the following error: "Error Occurred on Server, , While Synchronizing OLD_PASSWORDS Changes For Object, . This Error will be Logged In The Error Log File" This error occurs when the property 'OLD_PASSWORDS' is created prior to the user object being created in the bindery. This only occurs on servers in which the object is being synchronized. When synchronizing objects to other servers, NETCON.EXE Version 1.12 checks to see if the user object exists before attempting to create the property 'OLD_PASSWORDS'. If the user object does not exist on the server, the object is then created followed by the creation of the property 'OLD_PASSWORDS'. NOTE: This problem only manifests itself when REQUIRE UNIQUE PASSWORDS is set to YES. 3) When a server is being added to a domain, NETCON.EXE synchronizes the users personal login scripts to the incoming server. NETCON.EXE is also supposed to synchronize the print job configurations, if they exist. NETCON.EXE v1.00 does not check for the PRINTCON.DAT file. NETCON.EXE Version 1.12 does check for the PRINTCON.DAT file and if it exists NETCON.EXE will synchronize it to the incoming server. To install this utility: 1) Flag NETCON.EXE as SRW (Sharable Read Write) in the PUBLIC directory. 2) Rename NETCON.EXE to NETCON.OLD in the PUBLIC directory for backup purposes. 3) Copy NETCON.EXE to the PUBLIC directory. 4) Flag the new copies of NETCON.EXE back to SRO (Sharable Read-Only). ***************************************************************** DISCLAIMER Novell, Inc. makes no representations or warranties with respect to this software patch, and specifically disclaims any express or implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.
