Novell ATM LAN Emulation Client FAQ last updated: October 22, 1997 Q. Is there an order dependency with the LEC modules? Yes, you must first configure the physical ATM board and then configure the token ring or ethernet LEC. If you have configured ATMELEC or ATMTRLEC before configuring the ATM driver, delete the entries and configure the ATM driver first before configuring the ATM LAN Emulation Client driver. The LEC will not load if the ATM board has not been loaded. Q. What are the minimum required buffer and ECB sizes? It is recommended that the user sets the following in startup.ncf: Set Maximum Packet Receive Buffers = 1000 Set Minimum Packet Receive Buffers = 600 For ATMTRLEC the following MUST be configured: Set Maximum Physical Receive Packet Size = 4608 For ATMELEC the default ECB is sufficient: Set Maximum Physical Receive Packet Size = 4202 Q. Does Novell ATM LAN Emulation support multiple ELANs? Yes. Each ELAN must have a unique MAC address and unique ELAN name. To specify an ELAN other than the default, use the ELAN= load line parameter. The first ELAN uses the ATM adapter ESI (End Station Identifier) by default, but subsequent ELANs on that same adapter MUST have a NODE= parameter in their load line so that NetWare can route between ELANs. Also, place the ELAN Name in double quotes if it contains lower case letters. For example, ELAN Name: "elan1". Q. Can ATMTRLEC be used for source route bridging? Yes. 1. When binding IPX to SRBRIDGE, the following error message may appear: "Warning another ring is needed for the operation of SRBRIDGE" Load MONITOR and BRGCON to see if the bridge is operating properly. 2. If endstations cannot see each other, make sure to enable and bind the source route end station on the server (route.nlm) or load the sroute.nlm on the Netware 32 bit client. Q. What bugs have been fixed in the latest release? Version 1.01M Release: 1. Data connections will no longer occasionally disconnect and not reconnect. Version 1.01L Release: 1. Server no longer occasionally abends when resetting ATM switch. 2. ATM HSM board load line field is no longer required. The ATMLEC will use the first ATM board in the system if this parameter is not specified. Q. What are the known bugs? 1. Rebooting client in WIN95 enviornment results in a write protection error. How to circumvent the problem: Unload ATMLEC and ATM adapter in the DOS box and then reboot the system. 2. An integrated install is not available for DOS/Windows 3.1x. How to circumvent the problem: Customize the startnet.bat file and install the ATMLEC files. Q. How do I report problems? Please contact Novell technical support. (http://support.novell.com)
