DETAILS REGARDING THE INTEL EtherExpress(tm) 16 DRIVERS
FOR DOS WORKSTATIONS IN LAN MANAGER NETWORKS

This README file assumes the EtherExpress 16 or 16TP board
is installed and configured.  If you need help installing or
configuring the EtherExpress 16 or 16TP board, see either

Configuring the Intel EtherExpress 16 and 16TP Network 
Adapters.


INSTALLING ON A DOS WORKSTATION
===============================
To use the EtherExpress 16 adapter in a DOS workstation, follow
the standard installation procedure.  The EtherExpress 16 driver
is added to the LAN Manager NOS using the SETUP utility.  This
process is documented in the NOS installation guide.  Once you
have exited the SETUP utility, do not shutdown the computer
unless you are using the EtherExpress 16 default I/O address of
300h.  If you are NOT using the default I/O address, refer to the
"EDITING PROTOCOL.INI" section below for instructions on changing
the I/O address.

After exiting SETUP (and reconfiguring the network driver),
reboot the computer as described in the manual.  If an error
message is displayed, ensure that the board is installed
properly and the I/O address in PROTOCOL.INI matches the board.
You may also run the Intel status-checking utility (described
at the end of this file).


CONFIGURING THE DRIVER FOR MULTIPLE BOARDS
==========================================
If you're putting multiple boards in one computer, be sure that
each board has a unique I/O address.  Use the NOS's SETUP utility
to update the LAN Manager configuration to include the additional
boards.  After exiting SETUP, you must edit the PROTOCOL.INI file
to change the I/O address parameters to match the boards.   Refer
to the "EDITING PROTOCOL.INI" section below for instructions on
changing the I/O address.


EDITING PROTOCOL.INI
====================
Your NOS uses the PROTOCOL.INI file to ensure that the
driver and the board are configured to work together.
Our driver requires only one parameter, and its purpose is
to ensure that the driver and the board are configured to
use the same I/O address.  The parameter's name is IOADDRESS.
If you are using an I/O address other than 300h, you must
edit the PROTOCOL.INI file located on the workstation's disk
in the directory \LANMAN.DOS to change the configuration of
the driver.

1.  Using an editor of your choice, locate the EtherExpress 16
    adapter section shown below:

        [EXP16_NIF]
        
        ; Intel EtherExpress(tm) 16 Ethernet Adapter.
        
        IOADDRESS=0x300
        DRIVERNAME=EXP16$

2.  Replace the hexdecimal I/O address with the address you
    selected when you ran SOFTSET.

3.  Save the file and exit.

The network driver now matches the configuration of the board
and you should continue with the rebooting of the computer.


STATUS-CHECKING UTILITY
=======================
We've provided a utility, EXPSTAT.EXE, that allows you to
check the status of the driver.  The utility is located in
the following subdirectory on this disk:

     \MSLANMAN.OS2\DRIVERS\ETHERNET\EXP16

EXPSTAT will display:

    o  The configuration of the board.
    
    o  The current status of the board.
    
    o  A list of all the types of errors that the board has
       experienced since the system was last booted.  To erase
       the record of error types, reboot the system.
