The following is a HELP file for EZ-Drive in general. - EZ-Drive will set CMOS parameters, PARTITION, and FORMAT the hard drive. - There is no need to run DOS' FDISK or FORMAT command. - To install DOS, turn on the computer with NO floppy disks in the drives. Insert Disk 1 of DOS into a floppy drive and change to that drive (either A: or B:). At the prompt, type SETUP/U. The DOS files will be installed to the hard drive. - To install the Micro House 32 Bit disk driver for Windows: Enter windows with WIN/D:F, insert the EZ-Drive diskette in floppy drive A:, from Program Manager run A:SETUP.EXE. - EZ-Drive recognizes when a hard drive is over 1024 cylinders and installs support for that drive. That support is evident by the blue and white banner displayed at boot up time with that contains the lines Custom Drive Type and 528+ Million Byte Support. - The support for the large drives is written to the Master Boot Record (MBR) of the boot drive in the computer. This is usually referred to as C: Drive or Drive 0. - That code must be loaded each and every time the computer is booted up in order to access the hard drive properly. For that reason, EZ-Drive provides a Safe Floppy Boot sequence. - To Boot Safely from a Floppy diskette: Boot the computer with NO floppy diskettes in the drives. Hold down the key when prompted on the screen. Insert a bootable floppy diskette into drive A: and press to continue the boot process. - To Replace the EZ-Drive MBR: Insert a bootable floppy diskette into drive A: Turn on the computer which will boot to an A: prompt. Insert the EZ-Drive diskette. Type EZ/MBR and press . The MBR will be re-written. - Some newer machines come with a BIOS or Enhanced IDE controller card that will provide the support for a hard drive over 1024 cylinders. In this case, EZ-Drive may not be required for the hard drive. - To Remove the EZ-Drive MBR: Ensure that the CMOS parameters are correctly set. Insert a bootable floppy diskette with the FDISK program into drive A: Turn on the computer which will boot to an A: prompt. Type FDISK/MBR and press . The MBR will be over written with a DOS MBR. - WARNING!!! If the EZ-Drive MBR is Removed, support for the large drive will be removed. Thus, you will have to Partion and Format the hard drive again. - If your BIOS does NOT support large drives the maximums supported by DOS without EZ-Drive are 16 Heads, 1024 Cylinders, and 63 Sectors/Track. This will result in a 504 Megabyte drive which formats to 528 million bytes.
