To Load New Firmware using DSPtools: 1. Connect the drive to any DOS based PC system which has an installed and operating ASPI device driver. This driver is always used with Adaptec controllers. A mouse driver is also recommended. 2. Install DSPtools, either from your DSPtools diskette or archive file, onto the PC’s hard disk. The target disk may be either SCSI or IDE, preferably not the drive to be updated. 3. When the install is complete, change to the directory in which you installed DSPTOOLS. 4. Invoke DSPtools by typing DSP. 5. The screen will display a disclaimer, and behind it a tool bar across the top of the screen. After reading the disclaimer, clear it from the screen by typing Esc or clicking in the upper left corner of the window. 6. From the toolbar, select setup. From the setup menu, select select/show. 7. Select the drive (by its SCSI ID) that you wish to update. 8. From the toolbar, select setup. select protection. 9. Turn protection off by unchecking the box At this point, the bottom of the screen will show the drive ID, Inquiry name, and code version of the drive you have selected, and a notation that protection is off. 10. From the tool bar select update, and select dspload. 11. You will be prompted to enter the code filename. Use the dialog box to choose the proper firmware image for the drive selected. 12. DSPtools will prompt you to be sure you want to do this. If code file is correct, say yes. You will see a message saying the update is in progress. The drive will spin down, lights will flash, and after approximately 20 seconds or so, the bottom of the screen will say SUCCESS, and the Inquiry data shown will now reflect the new code level.
