(c) Copyright International Computers Limited 1992 MONSAVE version 2.6, October 1992 ================================= MONSAVE is a terminate-and-stay resident utility that, when started, performs the following functions: o Extends monitor life by blanking the screen when neither the keyboard nor the mouse has been used for a specified period of time. o Activates the monitor power saving feature for those ICL monitors that support power saving. See your monitor documentation for more information. o Optionally locks the keyboard and mouse after time-out. MONSAVE supports both serial and PS/2 type mouse. This function requires that you have previously defined a user password using your ICL computer's SETUP mode. o Blanks the screen and locks the keyboard and mouse when the lock key combination specified in the SETUP Mode is pressed. MONSAVE extends the SETUP Mode Lock Key parameter to lock a serial mouse (without MONSAVE, SETUP Key Lock locks only a PS/2 type mouse.) Restoring the screen ==================== Pressing any key or touching the mouse will restore the screen. Pressing a key or touching the mouse will also restore the monitor to normal operation if it has entered the power saving state. Entering the user password will unlock the keyboard and mouse. To use MONSAVE: =============== 1. Edit your PATH statement in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file to include the directory where MONSASVE resides (C:\HRA2\UTIL by default). 2. Add the MONSAVE command to you AUTOEXEC.BAT or, alternatively, activate the MONSAVE from the DOS command line before starting Windows. The syntax is MONSAVE [/SWITCHES] USE THIS SWITCH TO DO THIS ========================================================== /## Number of minutes form 1 to 59. If no time is specified, MONSAVE defaults to 5 minutes. /l Locks the keyboard and mouse after time-out. /n Disables screen blanking. /d Disables all MONSAVE features. ? Displays on-line help. ============================================================ To use the /L and /N switch, you must have previously defined a user password using your ICL computer's SETUP Mode; use this password to unlock the keyboard. Switches /L and /N can only be given at install time. Memory occupied =============== MONSAVE is a TSR program. The resident part of the program occupies 2.5 kB of conventional Load MONSAVE only to DOS memory (below the 640 kB limit). Serial mouse locking ==================== If the BIOS of your ICL computer provides support for keyboard and PS/2 type mouse locking, MONSAVE extends the locking support to a serial mouse as well (BIOS itself lacks this support.) If you press the BIOS supported lock key combination and you use a serial mouse, MONSAVE locks the serial mouse even if you are not using the /L switch. In other words, your serial mouse behaves in the same manner as a PS/2 mouse. To use this feature, you must set a user password and specify a key that, when pressed together with CTRL and ALT, immediately locks the keyboard and a PS/2 type or serial mouse. You can set a password and specify a lock key in the SETUP Mode of your ICL computer. See your computer's "Hardware and Installation Guide" for instructions. Troubleshooting =============== Since MONSAVE is a TSR program, it may conflict with other TSR programs. If your keyboard or mouse behaves erratically after you have started MONSAVE, disable MONSAVE to see if it is causing the problem.
