Important Note ================================================================= Please read this README file and all the supplied documentation BEFORE you continue the installation. 2. Installation Notes ================================================================= These drivers require DirectX 6.1 or DirectX 7.0 to support DirectDraw & Direct3D applications. InControl Tools 95 shortcuts are not compatible with Windows 98 and InControl Tools 98. It is important to uninstall any previous version of InControl Tools (e.g. InControl Tools 95) before installation of InControl Tools 99. Uninstall from the Control Panel by: 1. Choosing "Add/Remove Programs" 2. Select "Diamond Multimedia Product Installation & Removal" 3. Click on the "Add/Remove" button 4. Then follow the uninstall process. Preparing to install the Windows 9x Drivers ----------------------------------------------------------------- Before installing the S3 Inc. Savage 4 Windows 9x display drivers, switch your display driver to the "Standard VGA". 1. Open your Control Panel and select Display. 2. Select the Settings tab and click the Change Display Type button. 3. Click the Change button. 4. Select the Show All Devices radio button and scroll to the top of the left window and select Standard Display Types. 5. In the right window select Standard Display Adapter (VGA). Click OK. 3. Installation Instructions ================================================================= Manual Installation via .inf for Windows 95: ----------------------------------------------------------------- Click Start, then Settings, then Control Panel. Start the "Display" applet program. Select the "Settings" page, push the "Change Display Type" button. Push the "Change" button in the "Adapter Type" area. Push the "Have Disk" button and press "OK". Specify the path to the new driver and press the key: Example 1: Insert the drivers disk in the A: floppy drive, and enter A:\. Example 2: Type in the name of the directory where you copied the drivers, either on your local hard drive or on a network share. This installation automatically goes to C:\Savage4 unless you have manually changed the default extraction. Example 3: If you're not sure exactly where the drivers are, choose the "Browse..." button are find them. The "Select Device" dialog box will appear. Select the adapter that corresponds to the one you installed in your machine and click OK. Windows 95 will copy the display drivers to the proper directories on your system. Continue choosing Close until asked to restart your machine from the "Systems Settings Change" dialog box. Known Issues ================================================================= There are no issues to note with this release. 5. Issues Resolved ================================================================= Addresses issues with fogging effects in Diakatana. Addresses General Protection Faults in Kingpin. Addresses screen flashing in Homeworld after changing resolutions. Adds support for Power Management when used as a secondary display adapter in the Windows 98 environment. Addresses WinBench2000 quality test failures in 32-bit color depth. 6. Known Limitations ================================================================= This driver is not optimized for DirectX7. It is optimized for DirectX 6.1, however it has been tested and runson operating systems with either DirectX version installed.
