<>@2{THE ULTIMATE QUIZ GAMES AND DATA DISKS @3 }Review Article by Andy Gibson @4 Short on reviews for this issue of Az, I thought I would write a couple of reviews on my latest F1 releases : THE ULTIMATE QUIZ Vol.1 and Vol.2 Unfair maybe the word, but titter ye not! These words are taken directly from the pages of both Amiga User International and also from Amiga Computing. I will add some of my own information at the end of the reviews just to get my own opinions heard ! :) First of all I would like to point out that Vol.2 of the game is a brand new game coded from scratch and is not just a simple update to vol.1 !!! @6 AMIGA COMPUTING (84) REVIEW OF Vol. 1 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ @5 The Ultimate Quiz is one step ahead of the quiz game crowd thanks to two factors: It is not only attractively presented but also boasts a whopping 1000 questions covering ten different catergories ranging from General Knowledge and Pop Music to Red Dwarf, Star Trek and Dr Who. The Player receives three credits at the start of play and must answer as many multiple-choice questions as possible, each under a strict time limit. Correct ansers score points while incorrect responses mean a credit is deducted. Once you're out of credits that's it, and you'll have to see whether your score was good enough to set a new record for the subject you chose. The difficulty level varies from very simple to horrendously challenging @5and because there are 100 questions on each subject, there isn't a problem with question repitition through repeated play. The only real complaint is that there aren't many questions that can be answered by somebody without specialist knowledge of a certain science fiction tv series, but the author and friends are apparently already at work on a data disk featuring hundreds of new questions. Owners of 1 meg Amigas in search of a stimulating jaunt through the less frequently accessed recesses of their minds will find this a hugely entertaining game. @3 No rating given and the only fault with the review is that Vol.1 doesn't support Data Disks at all !!! @6 AUI (April 1995) REVIEW OF Vol. 1 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ @4 We had a demo version of this program on one of our previous coverdisks. It was very addictive and once started, we had to be physically dragged away from the screen. The full version which costs a very reasonable 3.99 is twice as compelling (you have to have two people to drag you away) as you can choose from a number of different subjects. Most of these are cult tv series such as Red Dwarf, Star Trek and The Hitch Jikers Guide To The Galaxy. For strange people who do not like cult tv, there are other subjects such as Pop Music, Big Movies and of course General Knowledge. There are only 100 questions for each subject which means that the same questions do crop up every now and then which can be annoying. This game attracted crowds of people around my computer screen, I had to accidentally fall onto my reset keys to get rid of them! #4RATED AT 95% @3 The only small fault of this review is the point about questions cropping up now and then ! Not to my knowledge and I should know as I had to type in all 1000 of them. Still, not too bad a review and I'm happy with it. @1:) @6 AUI (June 1995) REVIEW OF Vol. 2 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ @5 After the success of the previous version, Andy Gibson the author of The Ultimate Quiz has released number two which is much improved even if, as the editor insists, "ultimate" means final and you can't have a second version of the final thing, can you? The whole program has been revamped. There is a new graphical interface and the way the questions are stored has changed. Instead of several categories within the game, you now have to insert a seperate data disk which contains 500 questions each. It seems that the difficulty of all the disks have risen. I found them very difficult indeed but I guess my knowledge of the specialised subjects is not extensive. I do think though that these disks will appeal to hardened quiz addicts. There are quite a few subjects from which to choose. As well as pop music movies and pot luck there is both a Red Dwarf and Star Trek disk being written which I am sure will be very poular. I know I am looking forward to them, at least I will get a few more right. @2 The game plus a pop music data disk will cost £4.99. You can buy two data disks for a measly £4.99. #2RATED 95% @3 What's this, an almost perfect review of one of my productions ? Can this be true ? The only snag is that when I released Vol.2 of the game, I didn't think of "Ultimate" meaning final! More along the lines of .... "Best Ever" .... Trust an Editor of a magazine to pick that small point up ! hehehehe @1 :) @3 With any luck, AUI will see fit to include a demo version of Vol.2 on one of their future coverdisks soon ! #8 THE ULTIMATE QUIZ Vol. 1 AND Vol. 2 are @4 I don't want to brag, but 95% reviews of my titles makes me feel good inside as I'm sure all you fellow Amos dudes and dudettes know. I have not seen any other reviews for these two games, but even if there is a crappy review, I would still add it to this file - honest ! If you want to brag about your reviews via Az, why not type them up and send them into myself ? (by the way, the only game to beat my rating in AUI June 95 was Deluxe Galaga V2.5 which scored 98% I can live with that I suppose - B******S!) @1 End. #8 both available from F1 LICENCEWARE now!
