DARIUS I OF PERSIA
                          
Darius I (The Great) was king of the Persian Empire between 512BC and
485BC. He won the throne against the usurper, Gaumata, reorganised the
government and in 512 subjugated the Sythians,Thrace and Macedonia.
An expedition in 492BC to crush Greece failed as did one in 490 (defeated
at the Battle of Marathon)
