/x500/dixie/README: DIXIE protocol implementation
*Description
DIXIE is a simple X.500 Directory access protocol that runs directly over
TCP/IP. It is documented in RFC 1249, but it has been replaced by a newer
protocol called LDAP, which is on the Internet standards track (see the
/x500/ldap directory). DIXIE was an experiment. It is now depricated, and
we no longer use it here at U-M where it was developed. There are still
some clients out there that make use of DIXIE, but most people have moved
to LDAP. If you are considering undertaking new development using DIXIE,
think twice, think again, and then use LDAP!
