     This is the new version 1.5 of startup.  It now includes a nice
feature when used with ethe loader program (STARTUP.PRG).  This nice feature
benefits users with both color and monochrome systems.  The command is
setdesktop and will automatically load in a specific desktop file instead
of the standard desktop.inf file whn GEM is loaded.  Depending upon the
screen resolution at the time the program exits, either DESKTOP.HI,
DESKTOP.MED, or DESKTOP.LOW will be loaded instead of DESKTOP.INF so you 
don't even need the file DESKTOP.INF anymore.  This is quite useful if
you switch between color and monochrome systems and don't wan't to keep
moving all of the icons everytime you boot.
     The other new feature is the addition of three new variables.  They
are $alt, $shift, and $control.  When these variables are referenced, they
will contain "on" if the the associated key is pressed, or "off" if it
isn't pressed.  This is useful when you want to run certain programs say
only if you are currently holding down the ALT key.  Look at the sample
startup.inf file included in the ARC for an example.  (It's the startup.inf
file that I boot up with).
