ATARI LASER PRINTER SUPPORTED IN NEW VERSION. Contact: Doug McCasland at 707 544 6882 (Santa Rosa, California) Marcel Software of California is pleased to announce the distribution of its Marcel Word Processor to the U.S. and Canada. Copies of Marcel can be expected on store shelves by the end of May. (In March, Marcel Software released Version 2.0 of its new word processor at the Sacramento Atari Expo. The Marcel booth was busy, and response to the product was enthusiastic, resulting in a number of purchases by showgoers. Shipment by mail order began a few days later and sales have been brisk ever since.) In April, Marcel released Version 2.1, which provides support for the Atari Laser Printer and adds several new features to the spell checker. (Version 2.1 is available as a free update to all 2.0 customers. To receive the upgrade, the 2.0 customer only needs to mail in the 2.0 diskette and the 2.1 update will be shipped back in exchange.) Marcel Word Processor is a GEM-based, user-friendly, budget-priced program especially suited for writers, authors, journalists, and students--and for anyone who likes to write. Marcel has loads of features, like programmable function keys, auto-reformatting, instant-access writer's note pad (saved with file, but not printed or exported), easy accented-letter entry, easy keyboard selection of clauses, sentences, and paragraphs, word erase, and hundreds of other features, many not found in other word processors. Marcel can export in the following formats: RTF, 1st-Word, and 7- and 8-bit ASCII. With RTF, files can be exchanged with numerous programs in the Macintosh and DOS worlds, and with such programs as Calligrapher and the new AtariWorks from Atari Corp. 1st-Word format may be used with programs like Pagestream. Marcel can read RTF, 1st-Word, WordWriter, ST-Writer, WordPerfect 4.1, and several other file formats. Printer support includes Epson and compatibles, Atari Laser, Citizen, HP DeskJet and LaserJet, and IBM. Users can create their own printer drivers by editing a simple file. Marcel runs on the full range of Atari 680x0 machines, from 520ST all the way up to the new Falcon. It is fully MultiTOS-compatible. Marcel Word Processor is available now through mail order at an introductory price of $39.95 (the list price will be $49.95 after May 31, 1993). Send check or money order to Marcel, 318 Mendocino Av. D51, Santa Rosa CA 95401. See the Data Rescue demo for an example [] Compressed executables converted by Squish II + Squish 1.0/1.1/1.2/1.4 + Pack + PFX/LZS2PFX + Pack ICE + Fire-Pack + Pompey Packer + BAPack [] Compression Factor (CF) A value from 0 to 9 can be inputted. This adjustment varies the compression routine. Using a value of 0- fastest compression, least file reduction NOTE: CF0 produces files smaller than Squish v1.4 with a ~3x faster compression routine. Using a value of 3- approximately equivalent to PFX size reduction, though Squish II is faster of course. Using a value of 9- slowest compression, best file reduction [] Turbo mode [] Revised uncompress loader + Smaller + Faster + Squished ACCessories are compliant with memory protection. NOTE: Most executable compressors, if they even support compressing ACCs that is, will fail in this regard. + No more message printout- ie 'Squish-FILENAME'. [] Batch mode Batch operations now work recursively. In addition to files in the current directory, files in sub-directories are searched for too, allowing you to compress the contents of an entire drive or folder. [] Include extenders + Extenders are filtered by 'include' logic. Default list- PR?, AC?, APP, TOS, TTP, GTP + Easy user entry and editing of 16 extenders total. Only files with an extender matching an 'included extender' can be squished. This feature helps to alleviate the accidental compression of your hard disk handler and any other "non-Squishable" executable file. [] Excluded filenames + Filenames can be specified as excluded from Squishing. + Easy user entry and editing of 48 filenames total. This list is comprised of files that should not be squished or files that you do not want squished. For example, self-configuring programs. [] Intellisearch [] Improved memory allocation [] Realtime readouts The percent remaining and percent squished readouts have been junked. Replacing them is a "realtime graph" of the Squish/unSquish operation in progress, which is graphic resolution independent. Now: No VBLANK routine required and no Line-A references remain. [EOA] [MKM]////////////////////////////// MAKING MONEY / ///////////////////////////////// Use ST part time or full time If you are... 1. Interested in making good money using your computer... 2. Have a Desktop publishing or wordprocessing program... 3. And have a printer (9 pin will work)... 4. And can follow easy steps and self motiviated... Then you can learn how to use your computer to earn over $500.00 a week! HOW? By using a simple Desktop publishing concept that any computer user can apply to the needs of the local community. Using the P.D.I. System you'll learn how to get started on a profitable venture. The best way to make money with a home computer is not by publishing black & white posters or greeting cards. Those days are gone. To demand a higher price (for higher profits) you need an edge that won't require you to buy $20,000.00 in printing equipment. The P.D.I. System can demonstrate how you can create colorful professional looking products without using a color printer or paying a professional printer for off-set printing. The result is a product you can sell for a profit. It's that simple. No messy glue. No cut and paste. Just fill in the blanks on the computer, load the printer with the special papers, and deliver the product for a profit. This is not for everyone! A person can make well over $500.00 a week if they apply a full-time effort. Spare time work (2-4 hours a week) can result in making $100-$300 (or more) per week. If you're looking to get rich quick then this is not for you. But if you want extra money for a new car, computer system or whatever this might be for you. What is the P.D.I. System? 1. PageStream v2.2 templates and sample documents on disk to get you started right away. (Note: PageStream is only required to use the templates on disk. This concept can be applied using any wordprocessor or Desk Top publisher.) 2. Instructions on: How to use the templates How to make your own documents Planning business ideas Target customers that will pay for your service Products you can taylor for the customers Tips on how to make the job easier on your computer Ways to build profits while reducing cost 3. Instructions on where and how to get the special paper supplies needed to make these fantastic documents. The cost for these supplies are minimal but the results can look very expensive! 4. Sample documents that demonstrate the professional quality work that can be produced on a full or part-time basis. Send for the P.D.I. Some people want it back fast, some want to save money and ship ground. I let you decide and recommend that you wait till you find out how much it will cost to ship before writing the check and closing up the box. Then, when you are at the post office, find out and add that amount and put the check inside and seal up the box for the fastest possible turnaround. All machines will be sent back in the same box in which they were received. Turnaround time - how long I have your computer depends on a number of things. First, I work on a first come first serve basis, and if you send me your machine when I already have others to work on, it waits until I finish the others. Second, some people have called me and told me they were sending me their computer, so I ordered the parts, and then the computer never showed, I was stuck holding $140 worth of chips until the next customer came along. So, now I will not order the chips until I receive your computer. I order them UPS Blue, and there are things I can be doing to the machine before the parts arrive so there is no significant delay. All memory upgrades are boardless, that is, NO UPGRADE BOARD IS REQUIRED. The total price you see up there includes everything, so I save you 90 bucks or more because you don't have to buy a ZRAM or JRI or whatever. The old chips will be removed from the motherboard and the new ones will be soldered into their places. The advantages of this are that sockets and clip-ons are subject to vibration and corrosion which causes crashing, and leaving the old chips in is a power drain. Also, it doesn't take any additional space, as boards do, so you won't have to leave your RF sheild off. If you already have the chips or insist on ordering them yourself, call me first. I will tell you the adjusted price. Also there are certain manufacturers whose memory chips I can't use, because the pins are too fragile. The only bad ones I have found so far are Siemens and Vitelic. I have come up with a method to put Blitter chips in older ST's and STacys, which have no spot on the motherboard for the socket. For those of you who have a Hercules color board or GenLocks, or those of you who just plain like speed, I advise you to get one. If you decide to get a Blitter and an Accelerator board installed in a pre-blitter machine at the same time, you save $15 on installation labor (both require the CPU to be socketed). (April 12) -- More than 1,000 Atari computer enthusiasts are expected to converge here June 12 and 13 at Connecticut AtariFest '93, and are certain to debate whether the star of the show -- the long-awaited Falcon030 computer -- lives up to its advance billing. The Falcon030 is a perfect low cost tool for the professional artist, with 8 track, 16 bit musical capabilities, true color graphics and a 32 bit DSP chip. The Falcon will be bundled with several music programs, including a 4 track 'Direct to Disk' editing and recording program, a sound sampler and an all purpose productivity package called AtariWorks. The Hartford show will likely be one of the first encounters the general public has with the new machine and software leading designers have produced for it. Atari was performing quality control tests on the latest production models shipped to the Sunnyvale headquarters in mid-April. The two-day event will feature more than 40 exhibitors, including several of the top names in music software development and MIDI equipment. Tentative music exhibitors include Barefoot Software (formerly Hybrid Arts), Digital F/X, Steinberg/Jones, Pro Musica, Compo Software and others. The show, sponsored by ACT Atari Group, will be held at the Windsor Court Hotel, just off Interstate 91 at exit 42. Connecticut AtariFest '93 promises to showcase the work of several musicians and will include some live music sessions. Other vendors will demonstrate new equipment and software that will be of interest to musicians whether they're on or off the job. Among them, organizers have received tentative nods from A&D Software, ABC Solutions, Baggetaware, Barefoot Software, Compo Software, Computer Studio, Derric Electronics, East Hartford Computer Repair, Gribnif Software, ICD Inc., MegaType Software, Soft-Logik Publishing, Toad Computers, Wizztronics. Last year 14 user groups participated, and that number is expected to grow by June. A Home Business and Entertainment Expo that will focus on high-tech gadgetry designed for home use is also planned.
