This CD-ROM contains EMS's award winning consumer shareware
collections, various professional and consumer databases, and
a number of professional shareware libraries that have been
discontinued by EMS, but which are available here for archival
purposes. It is the 13th edition (December 1994) of a series
which is produced by EMS at least every two months. Each directory
in the root directory contains a software library, in ZIPed
format, available from EMS.
To install index and search programs for most of these libraries
onto your hard disk (where you will have the greatest speed and
the most features), just make the root directory of the CD-ROM
drive your current directory and type INSTALL #######, where #######
is the library you want to install (e.g., GAMES, SBA, ATMFONT,
HOMEPC, PRODUCTS, etc.).
Separate CD-ROM and diskette libraries for EMS's current Professional
Shareware Libraries are also available from EMS for as little as $25
each, with a complete set of all professional products only $195. While
none of the libraries are encrypted or otherwise restricted, it will
generally take a very long time to locate particular products of
interest without the directories. Note that the HomePC and Small
Business Assistant (SBA) directories are included on the CD-ROM along
with the complete PC Products database in DOS database and Windows Help
file format. Check the product descriptions below for instructions on
using them.
ATMFONT - Discontinued library of Adobe Type Manager compatible
fonts in ZIPed format. A database and search program are in
\ATMFONT\ATMFONT.
AUTHORS - Helpful information for anyone planning to produce shareware,
including the Shareware Author's Guide.
BBSLIST - Utilities for converting EMS directory databases to various
BBS file listing formats. Also information on various BBS
support programs EMS Professional Shareware offers. A generic DOS
search program that can be used with a door to access our
databases directly is in \BBSLIST\GENDOOR.
BESTBYTE - Clipper compiled database of Montgomery County MD restaurants.
Obsolete database, but included here to show performance of a
small database and Clipper search program on a CDROM.
DTPUTIL - Discontinued library of Ventura Publisher support files.
Provided here for archival purposes. A database directory can
be found in \DTPUTIL\DTPUTIL.
GAMES - Discontinued library of 187 ZIP files containing the best and
best behaved games from the world of shareware.
Types of games include Adventure, Arcade, Block, Board, Business,
Card, Casino, D & D, Educational, Gambling, Game Generator,
Graphics, Maze, Misc, Modem, Puzzle, Race, Simulator, Spacewar,
Sport, Text Adventure, Trivia, War, and Word.
HOMEPC - 409 ZIP files of general applications for personal (non
business) use. Types of files include Auto, Beverage Quenchers,
Collectors, Computer Twins, Events Planner, Family History,
Financial Planning, Fitness, Form Makers, Gambling, Home
Improvement, Home Management, Information, Kitchen Helpers,
Legal, Medical, PC Assistant, Personal Assistant, Pets, Pigskin,
Sports Addict, Stock Market, Student/Career Aid, Tax, The
Races, The Skies, Video/Music, and Writing.
HWDEMO - Discontinued Library. 55 ZIP files of interesting displays
for you PC. Useful at computer shows, in retail environments,
of just for fun.
JOKES - Discontinued Database. Nearly 1000 contemporary jokes, mostly
from the USA, in an Xbase/Clipper database file with convenient
search program to help you find the right joke for every occassion.

Many jokes offend many people. EMS did not create this database,
did not make up these jokes, and does not even recommend reading
them. If you are offended by their simple presence, please let us
know. We will remove them from all future editions of this CD-ROM.

MMUTIL - Discontinued library of utilities and other products for people
who wish to experiment with multi-media application development.
PRODUCTS - Contains a database of 23,000 PC industry companies and the
64,000 products they produce. A search program is included. While
most of the program's features will operate directly from the
CD-ROM, we strongly recommend copying the files to magnetic media
for speed if you use it often. (It is optimized for standalone use
on a very fast PC.) A Windows Help file version of the database
can be used with very high speed directly from the CD-ROM. To
use this version from Windows, press F1 and then select the help
files in the \PRODUCTS directory of the CD-ROM. Many press releases
in ASCII text (ZIPed) and Windows Help format are located in the
\PRODUCTS\NEWS directory. A text version of the database is in
\PRODUCTS\TEXT.
SBA - 441 products for use by small (and some large) businesses.
Types of products include Accounting, Billing/AR, Commercl/Industrl,
Estimate/Quote, Expense Tracking, Financial, Hospitality, Human
Resources, Inventory, Just the Facts, Marketing, Office Mgmt,
PIM, Professional, Project Mgmt, Property Mgmt, Purchasing,
Sales, and Time Acctg/Payroll.
SCIENG - 463 products for use by student and professional scientists
and engineers. Includes many types of products like Ag Sciences,
Astronomy, Audio, Automation, Ballistics, Broadcast Engineer,
CAD, Calculator, Chemistry, Civil/Structural, Construction,
Converter, Curve Fitting, Electronics, Equations, Estimator,
Geometry, Hydraulics, Industrial, Life Sciences, Mapping,
Mechanical, Meteorology, PCB Design, Physics, Software Engineer,
Statistics, Thermal, Trigonometry, Tutorial, WordProcessor/
Graphics and others. An indexed database directory and search
program can be purchased from EMS for $25. Please call for info.
TEACH - A few child education programs. No directory or search program
exists yet. A full library, with many more products and an install
program similar to the GAMES, HOME, and SBA product may be available
in a future edition of the CD-ROM.
TRUETYPE - 750 ZIP files with True Type fonts and font utility programs
for use with Windows 3.1. All fonts are also available on the
CD-ROM in unzipped format in directory \TTFONTS. A directory
database and search program are in \TRUETYPE\TRUETYPE. You can
purchase a printed list of these fonts from EMS for $5.00.
TTFONTS - Unzipped fonts from the \TRUETYPE directory.
WAVFILES- Add personality to your Windows desktop with this collection
of over 300 funny and interesting sound clips in .WAV format
for use with Windows 3.1. Features clips from movies, TV and
music.
WINAPP - Discontinued general use Windows applications library. Provided
here for archival purposes only. A directory database and search
program are in \WINAPP\WINAPP.
WINFUN - Discontinued collection of 227 PD/Shareware Windows games and icon
collections. Types of products in the library include Arcade,
Board, Card, and other kinds of Games, Icon Collections, and
Special Display Programs. A directory database and search program
are in \WINFUN\WINFUN.
WPUTIL - Discontinued library of WordPerfect utilities provided here for
archival purposes only. A directory database can be found in
\WPUTIL\WPUTIL.
