Refs 6.0
=========

22 July 1993

Introduction
------------

Refs is a simple program for creating browsing and maintaining academic
reference databases. The program uses the common ASCII Unix refer file
format and so is compatible with Unix refer, and also bibliography programs
such as WinRefer.

It is shareware, and the distribution should contain the following files:

        REFS.EXE        The program itself
        REFS.HLP        The help file
	REFS.INI	INI file
	TEST.REF	Example Unix refer data file
	IMPBIDS.DLL	BIDS (ISI) Import DLL
	IMPMED.DLL	Medline Import DLL
        BWCC.DLL        Borland's custom control library
        README.TXT      This file

The program will work with Windows 3.1 or higher.

Changes since Refs 5.11
----------------------

* Import of other database formats. BIDS and Medline supplied.
   Help file includes instructions on how to write your own
   import libraries.

*  Menu-based cut-and-paste in reference form

*  Reference insertion is faster

*  File loading is faster

* Author name and keyword handling is more flexible

* Minor corrections to interface behaviour

* Help file can launch notepad for editing of REFS.INI

Installation
------------

You will need PKUNZIP 2.04 or later to extract this file.

1. Copy the files REFS.HLP, REFS.EXE and TEST.REF into any directory.
   TEST.REF is merely an example data file and may be deleted.

2. Copy IMPBIDS.DLL and IMPMED.DLL to the same directory, or another directory
   on the path. If you do not require these DLLs, delete them and remove their
   entries in REFS.INI.

3. Copy BWCC.DLL into your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. If you have a more recent
   version already from another program, use that, and ignore this step.

4. Copy REFS.INI into your WINDOWS directory. This is important. Certain
   parts of Refs will not work correctly if REFS.INI is not there, or is
   incomplete.

5. That's it.
