Have Fun With Chinese Characters!
We are providing some Chinese characters from our high quality fonts for
your fun. CH_K.PFB and CH_K.GSF each contain (the same) 94 modern (or
simplified,'short') Chinese characters in Kaishu style (the printed style
that is closest to brush writing) from our OUTLINE fonts. If you are
Chinese or like to add an exotic touch to your greeting cards, invitations,
titles etc., you'll find them pleasant and useful.
CH_K.PFB can be used by Adobe Type Manager under MS-Windows 3.x, and
CH_K.GSF can be used by Ghostscript. Both of these fonts have been tested
under these software.
HOW TO USE
1. Install:
For Adobe Type Manager, use ATM to install Hanzi-Kaishu onto your
Harddisk; for Ghostscript, copy CH_K.GSF to your Ghostscript directory
and add the line:
\Hanzi-Kaishu (ch_k.gsf) \StandardEncoding 4988600 ;
to the file FONTMAP.
2. The name of this sample font is 'Hanzi-Kaishu'. In Adobe Type Manager,
you can choose the font directly from the menu, but in Ghostscript you
need to type in the full name.
3. You can find all the Chinese characters provided as well as their Oct.
-codes and key in the files 'CHAR.PS' and 'CHAR.WRI'. Under Adobe Type
Manager, you can use these characters by typing in the key. You can
type in the Oct.-codes directly in Ghostscript too.
4. The files 'CIHUI.PS' and 'CIHUI.WRI' contain a listing of some of the
meaningful combinations of these characters, together with their
meaning in English.
NOTES
1. CH_K.PFB and CH_K.GSF are public domain software and copyrighted by
SPRING System. That is to say, you are free to downlaod their contents
from the network, copy and distribute them. You can also apply them for
any non-commercial use. But you may not, without previous consent from
SPRING System, to include their contents in any commerical product or
commercial demo programs, electronic device or otherwise.
2. The format of the outline fonts is based on Postscript Level 2.0 and
Adobe Type 1 Font Format. We understand that Adobe has put in some new
commands in their latest versions to make the printing of oriental
charaters easier, these commands by themselves are nevertheless far
from sufficient to produce high-quality Chinese characters in print.
This makes it impossible for us to include all our design parameters
in the font in question. We also haven't included the Stem Hints
commands here, since the font provided is meant for large characters
only. Users should choose a size above 16 pt (180 dpi) or 14 pt
(300 dpi).
WHO ARE WE
-- SPRING SYSTEM, Germany and OMNIGENA Co, Taiwan, a joint venture for
Chinese software development, are now designing a series of
intelligent Chinese software suitable not only for native speakers
or users of Chinese, but even for beginner learners of the language.
-- Our SPRING TEXTSYSTEM 2.3 (available since Dec 1990) is a Chinese word
processor that is based on keyboard sound input, and you only need to
type in the accurate sound, in Pinyin or Zhuyin of Chinese compounds
(less the tones) to have the characters generated by the system.

-- We are also completing our outline fonts project, to provide the
highest quality fonts available on the market. Our complete set
of fonts include both the Jiantizi ('modern', 'simplified', or 'short'
characters used in mainland China and Singapore) and Fantizi
('classical', 'full', or 'long' characters used in Taiwan and
Hong Kong).

The main features of SPRING Textsystem 2.3
==========================================
- SPRING 2.3 runs on the IBM AT and compatibles with VGA card.
- Simple Input and easy correction of Chinese characters.
- Cizu Input with main and personal dictionaries. The main dictionary
contains over 86,000 Chinese multicharacter terms (up to seven
syllables) and a very fast search function which is also valid for
multisyllabic Pinyin or Zhuyin terms. The personal dictionaries can
be extended and changed online. The main dictionary can be extended
(up to 200,000) and edited with the aid of a separately priced
Dictionary-editor.
- Problem-free loading, storing and printing of all printable ASCII
characters (including German umlauts, French accents and Cyrillic
characters).
- Loading, storage and conversion of GB-code texts and of Big-5 code
texts.
- Direct, correct conversion between Jiantizi and Fantizi.
- Selectable and online readable phrasebox for the creation of a
Western-Chinese dictionary.
- Key functions for Chinese and Western special characters can be
changed online.
- Online Help can be extended by user as required.
- Simple screen-menu operation and easy editing with the common
functions of Western word processing programs.
- Correction and aesthetic printout of Western and Chinese text. With
the exception of Courier, all fonts are printed proportionally. Up to
60 different fonts and sizes can be used in a single text. The
printout allows many useful text formats for Western and Chinese text.
