FIBS/W v1.21 -- Now providing support for TCP/IP, SLIP and PPP Connections.

Copyright (c) 1994 Robin Davies.
All Rights Reserved.

FIBS/W is a Microsoft Windows(TM) based client for the First
International Backgammon Server (FIBS) -- an Internet server
which allows users to play against human opponents all over
the world. FIBS/W provides a graphical game board and mouse-driven
interface to the FIBS server.

Powerful configuration options for many common Internet host systems,
and communications service providers, and a built-in communications
scripting language allow FIBS/W to automatically dial and connect
to FIBS via the Internet with a single mouse click.

FIBS/W will work with either dial-up dumb-terminal-server access to
the Internet or access via TCP/IP, SLIP or PPP. To use TCP/IP, SLIP
or PPP, your system must have a properly installed set of Winsock v1.1
DLLs. If in doubt, you must be able to satisfy one of the following
conditions:

(1) You can dial up an internet host using Windows Terminal, and establish
telnet connections with systems on the internet.

(2) You are using TCP/IP, SLIP or PPP connections, and have a working
copy of WINSOCK.DLL installed on your system.

FIBS/W requires version 3.1 or later of Microsoft Windows, or any
version of Windows for Workgroups or Windows/NT. FIBS/W will also run
as a Windows application under OS/2 2.X.

  INSTALLING AND CONFIGURING FIBS/W

You may place FIBS/W anywhere on your hard drive as long as all files
in this distribution are placed in the same directory. The following
instructions assume that the files have been placed in the directory
C:\FIBSW.

To install FIBS/W as an icon in the Windows Program Manager, follow these
instructions.

(1) Activate the Windows Program Manager.

(2) Activate the window containing the program group in which you
want to install the FIBS/W icon. (Click on either the "Main"
program group window or the "Games" program group window, or
choose a program group that you prefer).

(3) Choose the menu item File/New...

(4) In the New Program Object dialog, select Program Item, and
    press the OK button.

(5) In the Program Item Properties dialog, enter "FIBS/W" in the
Description field. (For this field and all others, ommit the
enclosing quotes). In the Command Line field, enter
"C:\FIBSW\FIBSW.EXE". If you have placed the FIBS/W files in
another a directory other than C:\FIBSW, modify this line
accordingly. The working directory and shortcut key fields may
be left blank. The Run Minimized checkbox should be unchecked.
    Press the OK button.

If you have followed the instructions correctly, you should see
a new icon in the currently active program group entitled
"FIBS/W". From now on you can double-click on this icon to
start FIBS/W.

FIBSW.EXE will automatically create a FIBSW.INI file in your Windows
directory the first time it is run.

Detailed documentation and configuration instructions are provided
in the on-line help files. Press the F1 key while FIBSW.EXE is running to
access the on-line help.

Briefly, before attempting to connect to FIBS, you must

(1) Choose and configure a comminications port using the
Options/Modem Settings... menu command. This menu command
allows you to choose either a serial port, or Winsock to
connect to FIBS. If you need help choosing values in this
dialog, press the Help button for further instructions.

(2) Choose and configure an automated login script
using the Options/Connect Script Settings... menu command.
If you need help choosing values in this dialog,
press the Help button for further instructions.

Once you have done this issue the Communications/Connect menu command
to connect to FIBS. If you are satisified with the settings, you may
select the menu command Options/Auto Connect When Loading to cause
FIBS/W to connect automatically when started up.

Further instructions for configuring FIBS/W are given in the on-line
help.
