SDK Atari Software Development Kit Seidel Software Services œ34 from 16/32 Systems Rated: 90% ***Body text runs to 284 words*** This CD-ROM contains 243MB of programming utilities, compilers, tutorials, hypertexts, and source code. Not a full-up CD by any means but don't worry, you will not feel short-changed once you've explored it! Every language commonly or uncommonly found on the Atari platform is represented here, and much of the material is bang up to date. While there are highly useful assemblers and source code convertors (C to DSP) for the Falcon's DSP chip, there are also exotica like a cross compiler for the 6502 processor found on old Atari 8-bit machines. You'll find a raft of popular text editors for trimming all that source code, the complete GNU C and, wait for it, the source code for real goodies like Bad Mood, the Falcon Doom clone, Claus Brod's HD Driver software, and so many other exciting projects that frankly I can't write any more, I have to dig out my copy of Tempus 2 and get programming! Yes, much of the software can be found elsewhere, and some of it is old, but there are new tools for under-developed languages, like plug-ins to make Modula-2 (an old sparring partner of mine) work with new kids like Magic and MagicMac2. To have brought all this together on one CD with all the relevant tools, shells, desktops even (The impressive Gemini 2 with its UNIX-style command- line window is here) is mighty impressive. Much of the software and sources are, predictably, German, but English language documentation is included with most of the stuff. Half the fun with the CD was in trawling through the forty or so folders in a voyage of discovery. Reading the Index file is too easy! Verdict: Extremely interesting!
