'Initiale' and 'Initiale & Monogramme Volume 2' Roy Goring takes a look at two CD-Roms for DTP use. These two German CD-Roms contain monochrome letters in various fonts that can be used as initial paragraph letters, as demonstrated in this article. Initiale contains 40 fancy fonts ranging from sculptures, through animals, to pictures. Most are old fashion type fonts, but there are a few that could be classed as modern. Volume 2 has added some monograms and some old style graphics to the 28 fonts in this CD. Monograms are OK, but the CD can only contain so many combinations of letters. I found there were none belonging to anyone in my family. So to me they are of no use. Borders, pictures and flowers, make up 120 graphics in this part of the CD. The quality of all the images in first rate and as you can see they print out well. Overall the two CDs have been organised very well. With each graphic in various formats. Volume 1 in IMG, PCX, TIF, and volume 2 in CDR, CVG, EPS, IMG, PCX, TIF, IFF. This is nice to see, as most graphic CDs now seem to use formats that we Atarians can't read. For those who do a lot of DTP work these two CD-Roms will be of great use in your collection. Volume 1 has about 10Mb of graphics in IMG format, and volume 2 about 15Mb. So plenty of pictures to use.
