However,Ábuilding up a collection of suitable programs means plenty of diskÁorders from PD/shareware libraries or expensive downloads fromÁyour local bulletin board or the internet. Wouldn't it be nice ifÁsomeone gathered together all the really good bits and bobs,Áslapped them on a CD-ROM, and made it available at a reasonableÁprice?A1ÁA1ÁThe good news is that Floating Fish Studios have done just thatÁand created, in their own words, Bird of Prey, The UltimateÁSoftware Collection for the Falcon030!A1ÁA1ÁBig title, big boast, but is there any substance to the claim?ÁHappily there is. The CD-ROM contains an impressive array ofÁFalcon system improvement software, utilities, applications,Ágames, demos and commercial software demos. The authors reckonÁthere's over 21,000 files on the CD, and claim they haven't putÁlots of fillers in to make the number up.A1ÁA1ÁThe files are divided into 12 main folders, then into categories,Áso finding your way round is reasonably easy. A proper rundown ofÁwhat's on the CD-ROM would have helped - but I just happen to likeÁlists! The files are uncompressed, and the authors reckon you canÁrun most programs direct from the CD-ROM. In practice, many of theÁapplications I tried to run direct didn't run directly from the CDÁand copying files across to a hard drive was the only solution.A1ÁA1ÁAs with other CD-ROMs, much of the software featured has beenÁsuperceded by new and improved versions, but anyone equipping aÁFalcon from scratch should find the collection a good place toÁstart from. If anything takes your fancy, you can always obtain aÁmore recent version from the author or publisher.A1ÁA1ÁI don't have the space to go in depth about the software I foundÁon the CD-ROM but I have discovered lots of useful littleÁutilities including one fantastic application, called Scape, whichÁcreates planetary space scenes.A1ÁA1ÁThere's loads to explore, so if you've got a Falcon and access toÁa CD-ROM player, save yourself a lot of time and trouble by takingÁa swim through this collection.A1ÁA1Á** PRODUCT BOX **A1ÁProduct: Bird of Prey CD-ROMA1ÁPublisher: Toad Computing/Floating Fish StudiosA1ÁSupplier: System SolutionsA1ÁTelephone: 0181 693 3355A1ÁEmail: ssolutions@cix.compulink.co.ukA1ÁRRP: œ24.95A1ÁRequirements: Falcon and CD-ROM playerA1ÁPros: Wide range of exellent software.A1ÁCons: More than a few items only function correctly when launchedÁfrom hard driveA1ÁRating: 75%A1Á** end product box **A1Á
