Site Seeing Jonathan Nott visits a selection of Atari related web sites... ICTARI Magazine Support Pages http://www.elis.demon.co.uk/ictari/ictari.htm ICTARI is a disk-based Atari programming magazine, which has now been around for a few years. The author has put up these pages to provide online support. In contrast to the good editorial quality and professionalism of ICTARI itself, the web pages are relatively poor in both content and design. The couple of images for the page title are dull and monochrome - not really harnessing the web's multimedia potential. Also, the main page and download pages contain the only real content. A few examples of articles and background information would be a plus. However, the better aspects of the pages include back issues (10+ issues available to download), programming links and mail ordering information. The ICTARI pages would be useful for those wanting back issues, or to get hold of their first copy. They don't really provide an online companion for the magazine, and are rather bland. Rating: 45% Senior Dads' World HQ http://grelb.src.gla.ac.uk:8000/~mjames/senior/ The 'innovative' and tongue-in-cheek Falcon demo progammers 'Senior Dads' certainly have an alternative design to their web site. It suits the style of the Dads' demos perfectly, being wild and colourful. Although it may all seem a bit abstract, the site uses good HTML technique, and a fair bit of work has gone into it. There is a page containing details of each group member, with their fitting names like 'Doddering Git'. The download page allows you to get hold of their currently released productions such as the 'Air Dirt' demo. A good site for any Senior Dads fan or Atari demo enthusiast. Rating: 70% Toad Computers' ataricentral.com http://www.ataricentral.com/ Here we see a great show of initiative by US Atari supplier Toad Computers. They have come up with ataricentral.com, hoping it will stand out as a premier source of Atari related information on the internet. I was presently surprised to see that the site is not simply a publicity stunt for Toad, but instead shows their firm commitment to the Atari community. The site, setup to mark ten years of service, includes information on the full Atari range of computers, from Portfolio to Jaguar. Complementing this, there are comprehensive news pages, message boards, and a links library which allows you to submit your own pages for inclusion. A project such as this is long overdue in my opinion, and who better to bring it to us than Toad Computers. Rating: 88% ACF Design Team's Site http://rzserv2.fh-lueneburg.de:8080/ German demo coders ACF have created quite a good site, judging by the efforts of many other groups. While the team themselves have become somewhat sluggish with the releasing of their own productions in recent years, they still maintain an up-to-date and comprehensive web site. Among the many good pages of ACF's site is a long list of links to other groups' sites, and the homepages of demo-scene members past and present. Another surprising part is the information pages for Atari machines, including the VCS consoles and 8-bit series. While ACF productions can be downloaded directly from the site, links are provided to dozens of different FTP sites that ST and Falcon demos are available from. If you are interested in Atari demos and coders, this is certainly a recommended site to visit.
