** 1 page regular User groups / 858 words ** ** WRINKLIS.GIF here Roy Golding and Ed Smith have officially taken over running the club from AWC founder Jim Hornby (Jimbo), who has stepped down for personal reasons. They propose to discontinue the diskzine in favour of a printed A5 magazine. The magazine will be published at a nominal price - more details when available. As Roy says "Although the Club was founded for the more 'senior' citizens, we are looking to expand the number of members and could do with some 'younger' blood". Atari Computing would like to wish Roy and Ed every success in their new roles and Jimbo Hornby for his efforts getting the club started. STAG has become one of the biggest and active Atari User Groups in the UK. Well attended meetings are held every second Tuesday, and we produce a 10 page, A4 newsletter every four weeks or so. We have also recently produced a 20 page special on how to write your own HTML pages. On 29th September 1998, the third AGM will be held at The Railway Inn, Howwood - we'll include a report in AC#12. The titles of the proposed committee positions have changed as part of a rethink to ensure the posts are effective. The posts are: Chairman: Co-ordinating the activities of the group and the committee. Treasurer: Deals with all financial matters and co-ordinates renewals and new members. Membership secretary: New post with responsibility for promoting STAG in an attempt to increase our membership. Webmaster: Maintenance of STAG's WWW pages. Events secretary (West and East/Central): Duties to involve organising more structured meetings - like we did in the early days. Newsletter Editor: To continue to produce a 4 weekly, 10 page printed newsletter for members. Most of the positions are really about co-ordinating the groups activities a bit more. No one person should have to take on too much work. All should be able to approach appropriate members to seek assistance. Also it's time we had some new blood on the committee to introduce new ideas. Sandy Thomson has tendered his resignation as Secretary due to personal commitments which means he will be very busy for the next couple of years and I feel it's also time for me to stand down as Chairman. I'm already spending far too much time on Atari Computing related matters but, more importantly, I would like to give someone else a chance to influence the direction of the group. I fully intend to remain active - I enjoy the meetings far too much to stop. Thorsten Butschke has dropped us a line to tell us a little about their aims... Most of the members have been members of other groups for a long time. We have no organisation at all, we meet frequently - but not on fixed dates. The meeting are held in different towns including Worms, Trier and Wiesbaden. Anyone interested (remember Luxembourg is close to Trier) is welcome to come along. Our interests include: Games, DTP/EBV, coding, collecting and many more. We use XE/XL, ST/TT/Falcon's, Jaguar's and Lynx machines. On the 5th of August we met for the second time - at my flat in Wiesbaden. The first person who appeared, was our guest of the day, Oliver (Paranoid). He had just bought an old ATARI 800 (no XL) and needed a power supply for it. We tested it with the power supply of my 1050 Floppy, then enjoyed playing Asteroids with four players. Raimund (Highlander) and Walter (the Gambler) from Trier appeared and we showed off the latest Foundation Two beta release "Bembel Wo" for the 8-bit Atari. The Gambler tried hard, and was quite successful at the end. After the presentation, we had something to eat, and talked about some Atari news, including web browsers, Falcon accelerators and so on. The Gambler showed some rare VCS modules, a new game for the 8-bit from the USA called Jail-Break, and handed out a list of used modules for nearly every Atari console on behalf of a friend of his, so we could order some new stuff for our collections. Too soon it became late and Highlander and the Gambler left for home. I showed Blum, the new Falcon "jump'n run" from France to Oliver before he also left. It was an interesting meeting with something for everyone and we're looking forward to the next meeting. Then we will prepare the upcoming JAHRESHAUPTVERSAMMLUNG of the Abbuc (8-Bit Byter User Club) in Herten at the end of October. ** BC ** Thorsten Butschke Blucherstr. 26, D-65195 Wiesbaden, Germany Email: tbutschk@mainz-online.de ** /BC **
