OS/2 Fiber Gigabit Ethernet for Intel 82542 / 82543 / 82544 Chipsets Version 1.0 for IBM IBM OS/2 1000Base-SX and 1000Base-T Gigabit Ethernet Adapter Support for Options by IBM 34L0301 1000BaseSX Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (See restrictions) Options by IBM 06P3701 1000BaseSX Gigabit Ethernet Adapter Intel 82542 Based 1000BaseSX Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (See restrictions) Intel 82543 Based 1000BaseSX Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (PRO1000/F) Intel 82544 Based 1000BaseSX Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (PRO1000/XF) It is designed to work with the 1000BaseSX Fiber Adapter only. This driver will not work with any 1000BaseT Copper Adapter using the Intel 82543GC, 82544GC, or 82544EI Chipset. This IBM v1.0 software release for the IBM OS/2 1000Base-SX Intel 82542GC/82543GC/82544GC Gigabit Ethernet Driver Fiber family provides the latest driver disk image for OS/2 V4 - Warp Server for e-Business OS/2 V4.51 - Warp Server for e-Business, Convenience Pack 1 I. CONTENTS README.1st - This file IBMGE.OS2 - OS/2 Driver IBMGE.NIF - Network Information File These files can be extracted to a directory or to a diskette. II. INSTALLATION The IBMGE driver is installed using OS/2's MPTS program Installation Steps 1) Open an OS/2 prompt (windowed or full screen) 2) Type 'MPTS', and hit Enter. 3) Insert diskette with IBMGE files 4) Select 'Install' 5) Driver will be loaded into the system. Configuration Steps 1) On MPTS select 'Configure' 2) Find the IBMGE driver is the device list and select 'Add' 3) Select the TCP/IP protocol, and select 'Add' 4) Select OK and exit MPTS. III. DRIVER PARAMETERS The IBMGE driver is designed for Gigabit Ethernet using the Intel 82542GC / 82543GC / 82544GC chipsets. It will not work with any other chipset. The IBMGE driver will support TCP/IP ONLY. Any other protocol is not supported at this time. The only configurable options are the number of Transmit buffers, the number of Receive buffers, and the size of these buffers. The default number, of Transmit buffers and Receive buffers, is 8 and 16, respectively. This Gigabit driver is capable of utilizing Jumbo Frames of 9,000 bytes. (See Restrictions) This is set via the TCP/IP setup program. There are no Command line switches. IV. RESTRICTIONS The frame size, on the Intel 82542GC and OBI 34L0301, is restricted to 2048 Bytes. This is a restriction of this particular chipset. The 82543GC and 82544GC Chipset(s) are capable of a frame size of 16128 bytes, and a TCP/IP MTU of 9000. V.
