Introduction The Compaq Management Agents for OS/2 software release contains the OS/2 Management Agents program. The Management Agents take advantage of the systems management capabilities of Compaq servers. 2. Installation 2.1 Installation Considerations 1) Compaq Management Agents for OS/2 supports the following IBM Operating Systems - OS/2 Warp Server for e-business and Convenience Package for OS/2 Warp Server for e-business. 2) Compaq Management Agents for OS/2 require TCP/IP Version 4.21 or later for OS/2. Ensure that TCP/IP is installed before installing the Management Agents. 3) Compaq Management Agents for OS/2 require the Compaq Wellness driver (CPQHLTH.SYS or CPQSMGT.SYS) from the Compaq OS/2 Support Software Diskette to be installed. Install the Wellness driver before installing the Management Agents. 4) Compaq Management Agents for OS/2 require the Compaq BIOS32 driver (CPQB32.SYS) from the Compaq OS/2 Support Software Diskette to be installed. Install the BIOS32 driver before installing the Management Agents. 5) Compaq Management Agents for OS/2 require several drivers from the Compaq OS/2 Support Software Diskette Version 4.56 or above. 6) Compaq NIC Agents also get installed with the Compaq Management Agents. The Compaq NIC Agents monitor Intel NICs in addition to older Compaq NICs. Compaq NIC Agents require drivers from the Compaq OS/2 NIC Support Software Diskette version 1.56 or above. NOTE : ------ Install the appropriate OS/2 device drivers before installing the Compaq Management Agents. The following drivers provide data to the Management Agents: CPQHLTH.SYS - Provides server health and system configuration data. This driver is required on all non ASM supported servers. CPQSMGT.SYS - Provides server health and system configuration data. This driver is required on all ASM supported servers. CPQHLTH.EXE - Provides support for Automatic Server Recovery (ASR). This executable is required on all managed servers which require ASR. CPQARRAY.ADD - Provides data for Compaq Drive Array Controllers. This driver is required on servers with Compaq Drive Array Controllers. CPQ53CX.ADD - Provides data for Compaq Fast-SCSI-2 Controllers. This driver is required on servers with Compaq Fast-SCSI-2 Controllers. CPQRIB.SYS - Provides access to the Compaq Remote Insight Board. CPQEIDE.ADD - Provides data for Compaq EIDE Controllers This driver is required on servers with Compaq EIDE Controllers. CPQB32.SYS - Provides data for the Eventlog. This driver is required on servers supporting the Eventlog. CPQCISS.ADD - Provides data for Compaq Smart Array 5300, Compaq Smart Array 5i and Compaq Smart Array 532 Controllers. This driver is required on servers with Compaq Smart Array 5300 Controller, Compaq Smart Array 5i and Compaq Smart Array 532 Controllers. AICU160.ADD - Provides data for Compaq Wide Ultra3 SCSI Adapter. This driver is required on servers with Compaq Wide Ultra3 SCSI Adapter. IMPORTANT : ----------- Install the device drivers available in the Compaq OS/2 Support Software Diskette version 4.58. Compaq Management Agents for OS/2 version 4.10 may not be fully functional with older versions of the OS/2 device drivers. 2.2 Installing the OS/2 Management Agents from the Management CD 1) Insert the Compaq Management CD into the CD-ROM drive. 2) Open an OS/2 Command Prompt. 3) Enter the following: [cd drive]:\agents\os2\eng 4) Type INSTALL and press 'ENTER' 5) Follow the directions on the screen. 6) Compaq Management Agents for OS/2 require SNMP to be configured. TCP/IP modules required for configuring SNMP settings could be installed during Agents installation if TCP/IP modules are not already installed. Refer section 3.0 to install TCP/IP modules and section 4.0 to configure SNMP settings. 7) When the installation has completed, select EXIT. Shutdown OS/2 and reboot the system. NOTE : 1. After you complete the installation, you must shutdown and restart the system to enable the Management Agents for OS/2. The Management Agents for OS/2 automatically start each time you restart the system. 2. You will need Compaq Insight Manager Console Version 5.50 to work with OS/2 Agents Version 4.10 3. TCP/IP modules required for configuring SNMP settings for Compaq Management Agents for OS/2 should be installed during Agents Installation if it is not installed earlier. 3.0 Procedure to Install TCP/IP modules 3.1 Installation of TCP/IP modules during Agents Installation Follow the given steps to install TCP/IP modules during Agents Installation. After the installation of the TCP/IP modules, SNMP settings have to be configured in the TCP/IP configuration screen. 1) Copy DEFAULT.RSP to a floppy from the Compaq Management CD under CD Drive: \agents\os2\eng. 2) TCP/IP installation screen will be invoked during Agents installation if TCP/IP modules for configuring SNMP are not installed. You might see an error if DEFAULT.RSP is not present in the floppy drive. 3) Select SNMP Networking Kit. Change the default path to C:\TCPIP. 4) Click on 'Install'. Installation will continue. 5) TCP/IP Configuration Screen will be executed if TCP/IP modules are installed successfully. Note: The Screens for TCP/IP and SNMP components installation will be invoked during Agents installation only if TCP/IP modules for configuring SNMP settings are not already installed.. 3.2 Manual installation of TCP/IP modules TCP/IP modules have to be installed before the installation of Agents. Follow the given steps to manually install TCP/IP modules from the Management CD. 1) Copy the SNMPINST.ZIP file from the Compaq Management CD under CD Drive: \agents\os2\wsebsnmp to a local directory and unzip it. 2) Copy DEFAULT.RSP to a floppy from the Compaq Management CD under CD Drive: \agents\os2\eng. 3) Execute TCPINST.EXE. Follow the instructions on the screen. You might see an ERROR. (A:\DEFAULT.RSP not found) if DEFAULT.RSP is not present in the floppy drive. 4) Select SNMP Networking Kit. Change the default path to C:\TCPIP. Click on 'Install'. Installation will continue. 5) Remove the diskette from the floppy drive. For the installation changes to take effect, the server has to be rebooted. 6) Run TCPCFG2.EXE from OS/2 command prompt and verify TCP/IP settings. 7) For Convenience package for OS/2 Warp server for e-business, copy SETLOC1.DLL from the IBM OS/2 Warp Server for e-business CD or from the Compaq Management CD under CD DRIVE: \agents\os2\eng to ROOT:\OS2\DLL directory. 8) Run SNMPCFG.EXE from OS/2 command prompt to start the TCP/IP Configuration Screen. Refer Section 4.0 to configure SNMP settings in this screen. 9) Reboot the server for the changes to take effect. 4.0 Configuring SNMP Settings 4.1 SYSCONTACT and SYSLOCATION Update the following in the TCP/IP Configuration Screen. Enter the SYSCONTACT and SYSLOCATION fields with a text description. 1) SYSCONTACT - specifies a contact person for the server. 2) SYSLOCATION - specifies the physical location of the server. Note: The Management Agents set both of these variables to the default value of "." during installation. 4.2 Configuring SNMP Manager Access Authorization 1) Execute SNMPCFG.EXE to open the TCP/IP Configuration Screen. Select the 2nd SNMP page by clicking on the right arrow at the bottom of the TCP/IP Configuration Screen. 2) Add, edit, or delete community strings using the appropriate buttons on the screen. 3) In the SNMP Manager Authorization section, enter the community name (default : public) 4) Enter the access control. (Read/Write if you wish to allow sets) 5) Enter the Network address (Default : 0.0.0.0, if you wish to allow access to all machines on the network) 6) Enter the Mask (Default : 0.0.0.0, if you wish to allow access to all machines on the network) 7) To exit, select Close from the system icon pull-down menu. At the prompt, select to save or discard the changes. 8) Start the Management Agents Configuration utility by double- clicking on the Management Agents Configuration icon in the Compaq Management Agents folder. 9) Change the SNMP Community field to match a community string you entered in the TCP/IP Configuration notebook. 10) To exit, select close from the system-icon pull down menu. At the prompt select to save or discard the changes. 4.2.1 Restricting access to a single Management Console Follow the procedure outlined below to configure OS/2 agents so that the System is manageable only from a single management console: 1) In the SNMP Manager Access Authorization section, add the Community name, Read/Write access and IP address of the management console. 2) Enter 255.255.255.255 as the Mask for the above entry. 3) In the SNMP Manager Access Authorization section, add the Community name, Read/Write access and IP address of the local Host. 4) Enter 255.255.255.255 as the Mask for the above entry. 5) Shutdown and restart the system for the changes to take effect. 4.3 Community Strings The OS/2 SNMP Agent uses community string for authentication. The Management Agents set up a default community string of public during installation. 1) Execute SNMPCFG.EXE to execute the TCP/IP Configuration Screen. Select the 2nd SNMP page by clicking on the right arrow at the bottom of the screen. 4) In the 2nd page, Add, edit, or delete community strings using the appropriate buttons on the screen. 5) In the SNMP Manager Authorization section, enter the community name (default : public) 6) Start the Management Agents Configuration utility by double- clicking on the Management Agents Configuration icon in the Compaq Management Agents folder. 7) Change the SNMP Community field to match a community string you entered in the TCP/IP Configuration notebook. 8) Select OK to save the changes and exit the utility. NOTE : The Community name of the management console should be modified so that it is the same as that which has been assigned to the system using the Management Agents Configuration utility. 4.4 Trap Destinations To configure the OS/2 SNMP Agent trap destination addresses, follow this procedure: 1) Execute SNMPCFG.EXE to execute the TCP/IP Configuration Screen. Select the 2nd SNMP page by clicking on the right arrow at the bottom of the screen. 2) Add, edit, or delete SNMP trap destinations using the appropriate buttons on the screen. 3) To exit, select Close from the system icon pull-down menu. At the prompt, select to save or discard the changes. 4) Shut down and restart the system for any changes to take effect. 5.0 New Features Support for the following Server ProLiant ML570 G2 6.0 Supported Products The Compaq Management Agents for OS/2 have been tested on the following Compaq Products: Compaq ProLiant family of servers Following are the IBM Operating Systems supported by the Compaq Management Agents: IBM OS/2 Warp Server for e-business Convenience Package for IBM OS/2 Warp Server for e-business Use of this software on equipment not specifically tested by Compaq may produce unreliable or undesirable results. Compaq does not warrant the fitness or compatibility of this software on untested hardware. 7.0 Notes 7.1 Supported MIBs The following Compaq Management MIBs are supported under the OS/2 Management Agents: Standard Equipment Information Compaq System Information Compaq Health Information Compaq Drive Array Information Compaq SCSI Information Compaq Storage System Information Compaq Remote Insight Information Compaq Threshold Information Compaq Host Information Compaq IDE Information Compaq NIC Information 7.2 Unsupported MIBs The following Compaq Management MIBs are not yet supported under the OS/2 Management Agents: Compaq UPS Information Internet Ethernet Information Internet Token Ring Information 7.3 Threshold Management Agent Minimum Poll Interval The Threshold Management Agent maintains a minimum poll interval for thresholds. By default this value is 30 seconds. Any threshold creation attempt with an interval lower than this limit will fail. 7.4 Switch for Processor Utilization The Processor Utilization feature can be disabled by adding a switch in the CPQHOST.INI file. Add an entry under the CPQMHOST.DLL section as: ENABLECPUUTIL=NO 7.5 Support for Client Management IBM LAN services version 5.0 and above should be installed before installing Compaq Management Agents for the above support. During installation of the LAN services, the local workstation name should be same as specified in TCP/IP configuration. For detailed information refer to cpqclnt.doc. 7.6 Support for NIC Management The NIC Management Agent runs as a separate Agent. This Agent supports the new Intel Network Interface Controllers, in addition to Compaq's Network Interface Controllers. The NIC information is displayed on the CIM console only when the Compaq Management Agents are running. Compaq Neflex-3/Netelligent controllers are not supported by Management Agents on ProLiant ML330 and ProLiant ML350 servers. 7.7 Display of SCSI Controllers on the Management console The details of the Compaq Wide Ultra3 SCSI Controllers are seen on the Management console only if a target is connected to atleast one Compaq Wide Ultra3 SCSI Controller supported by the driver. 7.8 Display of controllers added to the system after the installation of Agents During the installation of Agents, active Agents are enabled in the Agents Configuration screen based on the hardware present in the System. After the installation of Agents, if a controller is added, the user has to manually add the respective Agent in active agent list (if the Agent is not under active Agent list)in the Agents Configuration Screen under Compaq Management Agents icon in the Desktop.
