1.0 Introduction
This document contains information on the use of the Compaq EIDE controller
driver for IBM OS/2 as published by IBM Corporation. This driver works with the ADD
driver architecture and is not meant to be a stand-alone Driver. The controller
driver is located on the OS/2 SSD System and Storage Drivers Diskette in the \ADD directory.
The Compaq EIDE driver supports Enhanced IDE disks and ATAPI CD-ROM drives
interfaced with the Compaq Integrated Bus-Master EIDE Controller. The Compaq
EIDE driver should be installed for Compaq Insight Management (CIM) support
on Compaq Servers as mentioned elsewhere in this file.
See here for information on Configuring Controller Ordering.
3.0 Booting from the Compaq EIDE Controller
To boot from the Compaq EIDE Controller, it MUST be configured as 'First' for the
controller order and also the HDD should be configured as a Master.
Booting from the Integrated Compaq EIDE controller is supported
on Compaq ProSignia 200 only.

Installation Instructions
Please follow the
procedures mentioned in Installing a Compaq
OS/2 Driver file.
Note: The Compaq EIDE driver, CPQEIDE.ADD, SHOULD be present on
All Compaq Servers with EIDE devices for Compaq Insight Management Support.
When the Compaq EIDE driver is present in the system configuration, the IBM EIDE
driver MUST be deleted from the system configuration by preceding the corresponding
entry in CONFIG.SYS with a REM. The CONFIG.SYS for IBM1S506.ADD should look
similar to the following
Example:
REM BASEDEV=IBM1S506.ADD
Edit the CONFIG.SYS
file to reorder the other ADD driver's BASEDEV lines to
provide the desired
controller order (see Controller Ordering).
These switches provide
certain features that can be used for specific purposes as described
below.
BASEDEV=<DRIVER>.ADD
[unit parameters]
The following unit parameters are available:
/P:hhhh where hhhh
is the address of the Base Port assigned to the adapter
/X - This enables break point in the driver enabling the System Administrator to run the driver in
debug mode.
/R - Allow Adapter Resets
/!R - Prevent Adapter
Resets
/DM - Enable DASD
Manager Support
/!DM - Disable DASD
Manager Support
If this is specified
before /U (Unit Id) then this switch will apply to all units. Otherwise,
this switch
will apply to the current unit only.
/U:0,/U:1 - Unit Number
/G:(C,H,S,W) or /G:nn
- User supplied device Geometry
/T:nn (sec) - Unit
TimeOut
/LBA - Enable LBA
Mode
/SMS - Enable Set
Multiple Support
/DSGP, /!DSGP - System
DMA Scatter Gather ON/OFF
/I - Ignore the specified
adapter; do not control the adapter with this driver. This
parameter prevents
the ADD driver from recognizing the specified adapter. Use
when
you want to have another
driver control a specific adapter.
/V - Load the driver
in verbose mode. This parameter causes the driver to print information
to the screen when it loads. The driver will identify itself along with the
geometry of the
devices found, and enabled features.
The drive MUST be loaded by a BASEDEV= statement in the CONFIG.SYS file, i.e
BASEDEV=CPQEIDE.ADD. This statement must only appear once in the
CONFIG.SYS file. On Compaq ProSignia 200 systems, it should be the first
"BASEDEV =.ADD" entry.
* IBM OS/2 comes bundled with IBM1S506.ADD driver for EIDE/IDE disks and
ATAPI CD-ROM drives. This driver MUST be removed from the installation diskette/system
configuration and the corresponding entry in CONFIG.SYS should be removed.
* You must have the following entries for operating CD-ROM devices.
BASEDEV=IBMIDECD.FLT
DEVICE=OS2CDROM.DMD
* Do not connect any device to Secondary Channel (Port) of the Compaq
Integrated EIDE controller unless there is at least one device on
the Primary Channel (Port)
* Do not connect a device as Slave on a Channel (Port) unless there is
a Master device on that Channel (Port)
* When connecting ATAPI
CD-ROM drive and EIDE/IDE Hard disk to the
same Channel (Port),
always connect the disk as Primary (Master)
and CD-ROM as Secondary (Slave).
