JOYCALIB -- Calibrates your IBM PC (and compatibles) analog joysticks version 0.1, 20090315, trixter@oldskool.org ==[What does this program do?] JOYCALIB assists the user in calibrating their analog joysticks. Calibration is the process where the stick's center position is adjusted so that it lies the center of the stick's range of movement. ==[Why is it important to calibrate analog joysticks?] Many older games had very sensitive (read: buggy) joystick reading routines. For such programs, especially those that attempt to autodetect a joystick's center position, proper calibration is essential. Calibration also serves as a quick way to check your joysticks are functional at all, instead of trial-and-error with different games. ==[Why should I use this program instead of some other utility?] JOYCALIB is the best analog joystick calibration utility because: - Supports all three different polling methods games used (8253 timer-based, tight counting loop, and BIOS function 15,84) - The default method (timer-based) is not speed-sensitive and can be run on any PC or compatible, from the lowly PCjr all the way up to GHz-speed computers - Supports both monochrome and color display adapters - Detects and reports on flaky/noisy/"dirty" joysticks - Full source to the main program and joystick routines is included ==[Some of the source code is missing...?] I didn't include the source to one of the libraries I've been trying out because it is too large. If you want to edit or recompile JOYCALIB, download the "Turbo Object Toolkit". Otherwise, it's all there. ==[Any closing thoughts?] Not really.
