1. OVERVIEW

Are you converting your Vinyl LPs to CDs or MP3 Files?

  You have probably discovered how time-consuming it is,
  trying to record each track as separate WAV files to
  store on a CD or to encode as separate MP3 files.

  LP Ripper makes the task much easier. Using recording
  software (e.g. LP Recorder) just record each side of
  your LP as a single WAV file on your computer.
  LP Ripper automatically splits the file into a
  separate WAV file for each track ready to write to
  a recordable CD. Optionally your MP3 Encoder can be
  called to produce an MP3 file for each track.

How does LP Ripper work?

  LP Ripper calculates the length of each track by
  detecting the gap between tracks and displays a track
  listing showing the time of each track. You can then
  select which track(s) you want to save as separate
  WAV or MP3 files.

  Some LPs have little or no gaps between tracks; others
  have long quiet sections that could be mistaken for a
  gap. LP Ripper lets you change the times that it has
  calculated and can automatically adjust the length of
  the remaining tracks.

  Track names can be edited using the full 255 characters
  of Windows' long file names even if your MP3 Encoder
  does not support them.

Additional Features

  * Listen to a preview of a track before saving or
    encoding it

  * Select Encoder parameters from preset values

  * Drag and drop, and command line support

  * Sensitivity and trace settings for troubleshooting

2. WHAT'S NEW IN V3?

  V3.0
  * Visual Track Trimming
    You can now see what you are doing when trimming
    tracks. Trim the start and end of each track
    visually to a precision of 0.1 seconds by dragging
    the track marker on the graphical display. A
    moving marker shows the current position as you
    listen to a preview of the track.

  * Instant Analysis
    The process of working out where each track starts and
    finishes has been separated from the time-consuming
    process that actually reads the WAV file. Track analysis
    is now lightning fast as a result. You can experiment
    with different sensitivity levels and numbers of tracks
    in seconds.

  * Silence Before and After Tracks
    Replace the hiss between tracks by trimming the noise
    and adding a specified number of seconds silence
    before and after each track.

  * Track End Times
    The end time of each track is shown on the main display
    and track time editing display.

  * Improved Accuracy
    LP Ripper uses an improved method of locating the
    gaps between tracks for greater accuracy.

  * About LP Ripper
    The CFB Software Internet address and e-mail details
    are included on the Help | About box. Click on these
    to access the LP Ripper Web Site or to send e-mail
    to us.

  * Resizable Windows
    The size and column widths of the main display and edit
    windows can be changed to make the best use of the
    space on your screen. The settings are saved and
    reused the next time.

  V3.1
  * Visual Track Trimming
    Two separate displays show all tracks as well as the
    track being trimmed. The track that is being trimmed
    is clearly highlighted. The track display can be panned
    through the full length of the track. The new track
    length is displayed as it is being trimmed.

  * Edit Tracks
    The start time of each track can be edited as well as
    the length. Tracks can be edited after trimming them
    without losing the trimming information. Track times
    are not all adjusted unless the Connect All button
    is pressed.

  V3.2
  * Auto-Sensitivity Option
    LP Ripper can automatically set the sensitivity value
    so that it can more reliably find the number of tracks
    that you have specified.

  * Directory Preferences
    These are now more flexible. You can specify that LP
    Ripper starts looking in the 'last used' directory when
    opening a WAV file.

    You can also specify that LP Ripper stores the output
    files in the same directory where the input WAV file
    was found.

    When browsing directories LP Ripper starts the search
    from the existing directory name rather than the root
    directory.

  * WAV Filename
    The name of the WAV file can have any extension - it
    does not have to be WAV. e.g. 'record.wav',
    'record.dat', 'record' etc. are all acceptable
    filenames.

3. MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

    MS Windows 95 or Windows 98
    Intel 100 Mhz Pentium processor
    VGA display, 8Mb RAM
    Windows compatible mouse
    Soundcard
    250Mb Free disk space
      (Approx. 30 Minutes' WAV storage)

    You will also need software for recording WAV files
    which is included with many soundcards. LP Recorder,
    which has been specifically designed with features
    to suit recording LPs is also available from CFB
    Software.

    If you want to create compressed MP3 files you will
    also need a command-line MP3 encoder e.g.

         Xing MP3 Encoder - Xing Technology Corporation
         MP3ENC - Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Encoder
         Blade - Tord Jannson's freeware encoder
         Plugger - Another freeware encoder

    Details of how to obtain these can be found at the CFB
    Software website at:

      http://www.cfbsoftware.com.au
