The tubes with bone in

  • In Tutorial 1, we create a simple scene animating two tubes with a pair of bones. In the image below, a pair of bones are set to the yellow tube, and the blue tube has referred to the bone of the yellow one. Also in the blue tube, Fall Off is set with PGL Play to the value different from that of the yellow tube.


  • Creating PGL file


    1. Loading Scene File
      Start up LightWave 3D Layout, and set ContentDirectory to "Tutorial" to load a scene file Tubes.lws. At this time, there is a bone set to the yellow tube, and only this tube is animated in the animation of the standard bone.

    2. Starting up PGL Editor
      Start up PGL_Editor from Plugins menu.

    3. Deleting PGL file
      Since there is a PGL file already created included in Tutorial folder, delete the PGL file with selecting Delete PGL from File menu before starting Tutorial.

    4. Creating PGL file for the yellow tube
      Set the current object of both Object pop-up and Reference pop-up to Tube1.lwo. Then, execute Make Default Groups in Edit menu. Make sure that the file name displayed in the status panel on the lower left of the screen is tube1.pgl, and press .

    5. Creating PGL file for the blue tube
      Select Tube2.lwo from Object pop-up, and set the current object of Reference pop-up to Tube1.lwo. With selecting Tube1.lwo for Reference, it becomes possible to use the bones and the motions used for the yellow tube for Tube2.lwo. Then, execute Make Default Groups in Edit menu. Make sure that the file name displayed in the status panel on the lower left of the screen is tube2.pgl, and press .


  • Setting PGL Play


    1. Setting PGL Play to the yellow tube
      Open Objects of Layout, and set PGL_Play at Displacement Map Plugins for Tube1.lwo. Since Fall Off of the yellow tube is set to 1/Distance^2, press Options button to open the panel and set Fall Off of the current bone to 1/Distance^2. Select All Bones for Influence.
      Then, press button, and copy Fall Off and Influence set to the current bone to all of other bones.

    2. Setting PGL Play to the blue tube
      Set PGL_Play at Displacement Map Plugins for Tube2.lwo. Since Fall Off the blue tube is set to 1/Distance^8, press Options button to open the panel and set Fall Off of the current bone to 1/Distance^8. Select All Bones for Influence.
      Then, press button, and copy Fall Off and Influence set to the current bone to all of other bones.

    3. Preview the animation
      Press button of Layout to preview the animation.
