       Convert File Attachments to Wildcat!

       Clarification:

You can use the sysop editor to read netmail and retrieve attached
files. The only reason why this option is useful is to allow users
online who were given netmail access, the ability to receive
attached files using the Wildcat! inherent file attachment method in
the netmail conference. Fidonet typically puts the file attachment
file name on the subject line and Wildcat! itself does not know how
to handle this when reading the netmail. Wildcat! only understands
the Wildcat! method of file attachments. When PX converts the
attachment to a Wildcat! style, the file is MOVED to a special
Wildcat! file attachment directory that only Wildcat! knows how to
       handle.

So enable this option if you are allowing users full netmail and
file attachment access or you personally prefer to see the Wildcat!
style of file attachments using the Sysop Editor. This is our
recommendation as you will find the sysop editor works better for
file attachments using the Wildcat! style.

       Disadvantage:

Some Fidonet systems use file attachments as a means to send special
x files to automatic a process when it finally reaches your system.
If you are finding that your special process is failing because the
"file is missing", disable this option. This will keep the file
       in the PXW\INBOUND directory.

  DOC: Page 376

       Minimum Cost to Force Direct:

       Correction:

The default value should be -1 to disable this option. Not Zero.

       Clarification:

Routing netmail works on non-direct netmail only. The quickest
way to make non-direct netmail, direct netmail is to use the cost
       table.

By using the cost table, you can effectively create a global rule
       that basically says:

"If the netmail is not going to cost me anything,
              then send it direct."

So by placing a value in the Minimum Cost field, you can reduce
       the route table.

GENERAL CHANGES
---------------

!!!: This is mainly a maintenance release with a few fixes regarding NT
4.0, some minor fixes and cosmetic clean ups.

PXONLINE
--------

ENH: Nodelist browser enhancements. See PXNLIST notes.

FIX: Under NT 4.0, PXONLINE had a problem with the Wildcat! Channel
System. PXONLINE would work fine but occasionally when running
WCCONFIG, it would lock up PXONLINE. This only happens under NT
        4.0.

The channel logic was removed from PXONLINE and a new method is
used to update the PXONLINE status information when a user is
        online.

NEW: PXONLINE now honors the Answer Method defined in WCCONFIG
Node Setting Modem Profile for the node. This means PXONLINE
will answer the line based on the defined method:

                Ring Result
                Ring Detect
                Auto Answer

For arrangements where a HARDWIRED setup (no modem) is required,
define a modem profile as such:

        Modem Profile Name: HARDWIRE

        Answer Method : Auto Answer
        Modem Reset String : <blank>
        Modem Init String : <blank>
        Modem Answer String : <blank>
        Modem Connect String : <blank>
        Modem Offhook String : <blank>

and in PXCONFIG modem setup enabled (Check) the option

                   [X] Use Wildcat Modem Profile

With this arrangement, PXONLINE will not use any modem strings or
responses for a modem and use the CARRIER DETECT signal to
establish a connection with a remote system.

PXNLIST
-------

ENH: Small clean stuff in compiler. Better search.

FIX: PXONLINE Manual Poll Address Browser, sometimes it did not allow a
sysop name search when called from the Manual Poll Dialog window.

PXSTART
-------

FIX: Made sure PXSTART.LOG is also in \PXW directory.

FIX: Was not switching directory to start WCONLINE.EXE in \WC5

GENERAL CHANGES
---------------

  !!!: Recompile under Delphi 3.0.

!!!: Noew uses DPL package system. EXEs are very small. Requires
VCL30.DPL. Memory requirements are slightly higher but the
        applications load and run faster.

!!!: Fixed into Internal database switch to CreateFile instead of
OpenFile. Openfile failed with DPL package system.

!!!: PX will now create Type 2+ FSC_0039 packets to avoid using the
AUXNET option used for points in FSC_0048. PX will always check
for FSC_0048 style packets but will not create it.

PXCONFIG
--------

FIX: Event Flag for "Check File Announcements" was not being saved in
        the Event Manager.

ENH: Great enhancement to the Magic Name File Request.

One problem with the magic name system was this:

             Magic Name File Specification

             NODEDIFF C:\PXW\NODELIST\NODEDIFF.A??

This magic name was ok, if there was only ONE NODEDIFF.A?? file
in the directory. But what if there were multiple files?

To get around this with PX, you have to update the magic name
table with the latest specific file specification each week.

Now, there is a new checkbox in the Magic Name setup:

[ ] If Wildcard Search, Find Newest File Only

If this new option is checked, the PX magic file request system
will search and return only the latest file specified by the
        wildcard file specification.

This allows you to use a Wildcat! file spec search, and not worry
about sending multiple files. Only the latest or newest file is
        sent.

Works really nice for product updates like:

XNETLIST returns latest PX NET nodelist
PXDUPDATE returns latest PX/DOS patch update
PXWUPDATE returns latest PX/WIN patch update

        etc.

NEW: New option added to Mail Export Options:

[ ] Do not use Time Zone Information.

By default, PX will now add the TZUTC fidonet kludge to each
message. This allows for global understanding of your time zone
and the times mail was created.

If you check this option, no kludge will be added. This only
effects Exports. During Imports (netmail or echo), PX will also
check for the TZUTC kludge and adjust the time accordingly when the
message is stored on your BBS.

PXECHO
------

ENH: In the past, PXW TIC exporting would skip a node if the TIC
        password was not defined.

Now during TIC Exporting, if a node TIC Password is not defined in
the node manager, PXW will continue creating the TIC for the node
        without the password.

This allows for the continuation of the node getting files.

NOTE: Please note the downlink may fail to process the tic and file
with a password. But he will at least get the file and have the
opportunity to work with you to correct the account interface
        correctly.

FIX: PXW will now honor 8 character password setups for PKT files for
downlinks. It was only expecting 7 characters in PKT files.

ENH: If an arriving TIC has a long DESC keyword (longer than WC's 74
character limit) *AND* there is no original LDESC keywords or DIZ
in the TIC, the PXW tic processor will now split the single
long DESC line and use this for Wildcat!'s long description fields.
Wildcat!'s short description field will contain the original, but
        truncated to 74 DESC line.

This helps file announcements since file announcements check for
the long description fields before using the short description
        field.

NOTE: This change does not alter downlink tic processing. All
downlink/passthru tic files will have the original information as
as received by PXW. This allows downlink tic processors to handle
this long DESC situation the way it suits them best for their
particular BBS/TIC process interface operation. Other BBSes file
record description in different ways then Wildcat.

NEW: The TIC Processing will now search for two places for the TIC
attached file; 1) the same location as the TIC file itself or 2)
        the defined file inbound path.

NEW: The TIC processor now offers an optional HOOK to call file
        scanners or file checkers.

When the TIC processor begins, it will search for PXFSCAN.EXE,
PXFSCAN.CMD (NT batch file) or PXFSCAN.BAT. If either is present,
then the TIC processor will spawn the File scanner passing the tic
information to the processor. The file scanner is called for each
        tic processed.

Upon return, if the TIC attached file no longer exists, the file
scan is considered a failure and the TIC is no longer processed.

If the attached file exists, the TIC processor continues with
the TIC import and downlink export process.

So it is the responsibility of the 3rd party file scanner to delete
or move the file if no further tic processing is desired.

NOTE: This new optional feature does not offer support for archive
or file renaming. If the file is renamed, PX will think the file
scanner has failed the file and no longer process the tic.

The PXFSCAN file scanner hook is called with the following
        parameters:

            1 - Node #
            2 - File Echo Tag
            3 - TIC file name
            4 - Attached file name

  ENH: GMT vs LOCAL times

Platinum Xpress was enhanced to support international understanding
of time when used with new TIME READY Fidonet software.

        Explanation:

In the beginning of Fidonet, there was a small item the
original designers either forgot to consider or forgot to
mention to all developers: What time zones the dates of
mail should be in? I guess the original designers did not
figure that one day, Fidonet would be worldwide.

As a result, most, if not all fidonet based software used the
local time of the machine to store dates.

In time ready software, typically, times are based on GMT (aka
UTC), which is zero time located in the UK. Every location in the
world will use time relative to GMT. (East Coast is 5 hours behind
        GMT).

New fidonet software will now use the kludge called TZUTC which
will indicate where in the world you are relative to GMT.

When importing messages, PX will check the TZUTC and use it
to adjust the time of the message when storing it in Wildcat.

When scanning and exporting messages, the BBS message local
date/time is kept intact but PX will add the TZUTC kludge
        to the message.

PXONLINE
--------

FIX: File request WAZOO files did not have a line delimiter which
caused a problem on DBRIDGE mailers only.

FIX: PXW will now honor 8 character password setups for PKT files for
downlinks. It was only expected 7 characters in PKT files.

FIX: Areafix/FileFix Forwarding was not doing a proper zone check thus
forcing an your AKA to be used rather than your primary address for
sending fix forwards to uplink. It was only a problem if you had
multiple addresses (primary + aka) in the same zone as your uplink.
This is now fixed and uplink mail will had the desired aka as the
        return address.

ENH: Renamed node event logs EVENTLOG.x to PXEVTx.LOG. This keeps it
        consistent with PX*.LOG naming convention.

FIX: If Zmodem Recovery is turned off, the PX Mailer will now delete the
partially received file. If Zmodem Recovery is enabled, the file
        stays.

ENH: Added Windows System TIME CHANGE notification. PXOnline will now
do an Event Reset when the computer time has been changed or
        adjusted.

ENH: Added the ability to shutdown PXONLINE and PXECHO using system
notification using utilities programs or other applications. This
is different from the normal system wide shutdown command which PX
already supported. This allows you to shutdown PX without using
any semaphore files. It is an immediate shutdown, all sessions are
stopped. A new utility called PXCMD is provided. Type PXCMD for
        help.

PXTOOLS

  ENH: Sysop Editor Enhancements/Fixes

        # Fixed a small bug in editing mail and FTS-9 support

        # Fixed Direct Mail Button. In short, it was displaying mail from
highest direct to lowest direct. This caused a possible skip of
          mail.

x # Speep Menu now has a "no prompt" Delete current menu option.

        # New Address Book System.

          New Mail Submenu options:

             Add Names to Address Book
                     From name
                     To name
             Address Book ....

Now as you read mail, you can add mail to/from names, email
and fido addresses to the address book database.

When you create mail, you have access to the address book to
select the TO whom name. Depending on the type of
conference, the Real name, Email Address or Fido Address will
          be used.

You can also create "Groups" in the Address Book. This will allow
you to quickly send carbon copies.

  ENH: Sysop Editor Enhancements/Fixes

        - New View option "User Information".

Reads the "From" user name and will immediate display the Wildcat!
user record for viewing or editing.

        - Internet mail netmail control line filter

You can now define Internet/newsgroup mail control header filters
          under Options.

ENH: Enhanced, cleaned up the Database Repair utility.

PXNLIST
-------

ENH: Added better cooperative processing during the WCServer Startup
        delay.

ENH: Added support for the new ISDN modem flags in the Fidonet Nodelist.

FIDOMSG/PXNL.DLL
----------------

FIX: Entering a point address in FIDOMSG.WCC was being stripped. The
Wildcat Online Netmail system will now accept point addresses. If
the point address is not found, it will use the HOST of the point
as the main system to send the netmail. The host will receive the
        netmail with the point information.

        Mail Echo Scanner/Exporter

There was a 65K limit placed in the outbound mail echo scanner
which was carried over from the PX/DOS scanner design.

Luckily, the PX/WIN mail echo scanner was designed to be
practically memory limitless and I left a note about this in the
PX/WIN version of the mail echo.

But the length check was still left in the code and it caused
a Wildcat! error because it wanted to return a large message
with insufficient buffer storage provided to it by PX/WIN.

I removed the limit and size adjustment and it now works. Any
msg size can be exported with PX/WIN.

IMPORTANT NOTE (Something to do before release)

We might have to place a limit on this since your node down links
may have a limit between 32-65K with their mail tosser. To do this
correctly, we need a PXCONFIG option to limit the size of echo mail
and to split the echo message into multiple messages. We currently
do not have one in PX/WIN. A major design change would have to
take place for the echo scanner. PX/WIN does have a mail splitter
but this is only done for Netmail Responses, like a large Areafix
Query response netmail. I will need to move the similar logic to
        the echo mail scanner.

PXONLINE

FIX: Fixed memory leak in creating PKT files from *.MSG messages.

PXTOOLS
-------

ENH: The Hold Mail option now works when creating new mail. This option
will actually SAVE the message in the Wildcat! Database but it will
not be EXPORTED. You will see *HELD* in the reader status bar. In
order to export the mail, you must edit it and save it again. A new
message will be created, deleting the old and PX will now be able
to pick up the new message for export.

Note: Held Mail does not prevent Wildcat! Users from reading the
mail. This is designed as a feature for sysops in mail networks.

ENH: More Sysop Editor Enhancements and Features

        - Mail Search now has Direction Searching and new skip mail
          options.

          Direction:

( ) Entire Conference (search all mail) (default)
( ) Since Last Read (Forward)
( ) Since Last Read (Backward)

          Skip Options:

[ ] Skip Already Read Mail
[ ] Skip Your Mail (Skip mail you created)

        - Added new Search Menu options:

Search All Unread Mail This will search the current
                                      conference for all unread mail.

Search for Held Mail This will local held mail in
                                      current conference.

        - Added new Mail menu options:

           Set all mail as read
           Set all mail as unread

FIX: Fixed bug in Netmail Queue Manager when editing *.MSG formatted
messages. If the *.MSG attributes were changed to a flag which
included a change in the kludge files, the netqueue manager will
now support the modification of the kludge line. For example,
if a netmail was CRASH only and it was changed to IMMEDIATE,
the ^aFLAG was added to msg.

FIX: Notification activation logic was using reverse logic in 2.1c.

FIX: Fixed problem with TIC processor Passthru File Path not being

If no file echo passthru is defined, the default overrides
        are:

                 File Network Default Path

FIX: If the Nodelist Path was relative ('.\nodelist\'), then FIDOMSG
could not open the nodelist. PXSRV.DLL was changed to
expand the nodelist path to produce the correct NODELIST path.

Release 06/26/98 02:23 pm

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.1k/l/m
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

FIX: PXECHO: Plugged up security hole where node can send a tic to an
echo he does not have access too. PX Tic processor will now do a
FILE ECHO security access check on the node and move the tic to
the bad file storage area if the security is violated.

FIX: PXONLINE: Exclude/Hide From AreaFix/FileFix Request option was
not being honored in the "List echos" Query.

NEW: PXCONFIG: FILE ECHO EDITOR did not have the areafix options
although they were honored by the tic/filefix processor. So the
new options in the File Echo Manager are:

              [ ] Exclude/Hide from FileFix Request [X] Allow Mixed
Networks [ ] Force Echo (Can not turn off)

FIX: PXCONFIG: Fixed bug in Node Link Adjustments in Mail/File Echo
Manager. If the echo security was changed, the adjustment was
using the old security value/flags to double check links. It
should of used the new security value/flags.

NEW: PXCONFIG: Added new option during Node Link Adjustments to adjust
the echo downlink security when the echo security has changed.
This allowed for retaining the list of nodes linked to the echo
when making security and flag changes.

NEW: PXCONFIG: Added new NANO Update Reporting Conference #.

NEW: PXHATCH: Added new options to TIC Hatch System.

          - [X] Export to downlinks

Allows you to hatch a file to import into Wildcat without
             exporting to downlinks.

          - List of Excluded Nodes

You can add a list of nodes to exclude from the downlink
process when the hatch is processed.

FIX: PXECHO: Fixed TIC Tossing bug were the file was being deleted if the
source was located in the same target (file conference) directory.

FIX: PXECHO: Fixed TIC Passthru tossing bug where the first add-echo
was created but subsequent passthru file tossing were not added
to the same directory. Please read the help for the changes to
       the passthru path concept.
