Part 4: Configuration

==================================================================

This section explains how to configure your hardware and software properly
before installing the SILVERRUN application. It includes details on
required memory, processor and operating system.

Workstations must meet the following requirements:
-------------------------------------------------

Operating system : MS-Windows 3.x, NT or 95.

SILVERRUN tools require a hard disk, an 80386 SX processor (an 80486
is recommended) and 8 MB of RAM. 16 MB of RAM are recommended if
you work with medium-sized models (between 0.5 and 1 MB approximately).
A processor speed of 33 MHz is acceptable, but 66 MHz are recommended.

Operating system : Solaris.

SPARC:	12 MB of disk space, 24 MB of RAM and any version of processor.
A SPARCStation 5 or better is preferable to run the applications
in order to have a optimal of response time.

SILVERRUN tools run on the Solaris operating system version 2.4 or later.

You must reserve 6.8 MB of disk space for the installation of Wind/U's utilities,
included in many SILVERRUN tools. Wind/U's installation should be done only once
even if you have many SILVERRUN tools.

You can run the SILVERRUN tools under the version 1.2.3 of Motif Window Manager,
the version 1.0.1 of CDE Desktop Window Manager or the version 3.4 of Open Windows.
If you run them under Open Windows, the version 1.2.3 of Motif Runtime Kit is
required.

Part 5: Installation Procedure

==================================================================

The following section explains how to install SILVERRUN on a workstation.

Windows 3.x, NT and 95
----------------------

1.	Insert the first diskette or the CD-ROM.

2.	Choose Run from the File menu of the Program Manager (Start menu
for Windows 95). To install the Windows 95 version, you can also open
the Add/Remove Programs dialog box from the Control Panel.

3.	Type x:\SETUP (x representing your diskette or CD-ROM drive).

4.	Choose between the English or French version of the SILVERRUN applications
	(for the CD-ROM only).

5.	Choose the SILVERRUN application you want to install (for the CD-ROM only).

6.	Choose the installation type: Complete (commercial version), Trial
(30-day version) or Demo (no expiration date, but there is a limit on the
number of objects that can be used).

Complete:
---------

7.	Enter the application ID-NUMBER. The ID-NUMBER is on the back of the last
diskette, on the CD-ROM case or in the letter that came with the diskettes
	or the CD-ROM.

8	Choose the type of setup (typical, compact or custom) and the directory
where your SILVERRUN application will be installed.

For the Typical or Compact setup, the program recognizes your operating
system and installs the native version of SILVERRUN: 16-bits or 32-bits.

If you choose the Custom setup, you have to specify the parameters you
want in the windows that display.

9	Choose the type of security block.

10	If you install the application on Windows NT or 95 and you have chosen a
network security block, choose the communication protocol.

If you choose TCP/IP, you must specify the Broadcast Address of the block
	server.

11	In the following window, click Next.

12	Click Finish to complete the installation.

If you install the application from a CD-ROM, a window will display when the
installation is completed to let you install another application or to exit the
installation program.

Under Windows NT, you must install a virtual port driver to be able to detect the
security blocks (see the section entitled "How to Install a Virutal Port Driver
Windows NT" included in the Installation Guide).

Trial:
------

7	Choose the type of setup (typical, compact or custom) and the directory
where your SILVERRUN application will be installed.

For the Typical or Compact setup, the program recognizes your operating
system and installs the native version of SILVERRUN: 16-bits or 32-bits.

If you choose the Custom setup, you have to specify the parameters you want
	in the windows that display.

8	In the following window, click Next.

9	Click Finish to complete the installation and to run the License Manager
	program.

10	In the window displayed on the screen, enter the Key Directory (see below)
and the Key ID (Key field). Then, click OK to register the SILVERRUN
product for a 30-day trial period.

This step is mandatory. Otherwise, you will not be able to start the
	application.

The Key Directory specified must be x:\windows or x:\application path (x
representing your local hard drive). If you have installed the SILVERRUN
product on a network, you must specify x:\windows (x representing your
local hard drive) in the Key Directory field and run the License Manager
	program (wlmadmin.exe) on each workstation.

If you install the application from a CD-ROM, a window will display when the
installation is completed to let you install another application or to exit the
installation program.

Demo:
-----

7	Choose the type of setup (typical, compact or custom) and the directory
where your SILVERRUN application will be installed.

For the Typical or Compact setup, the program recognizes your operating
system and installs the native version of SILVERRUN: 16-bits or 32-bits.

If you choose the Custom setup, specify the parameters you want
	in the windows that display.

8	In the following window, click Next.

9	Click Finish to complete the installation.

If you install the application from a CD-ROM, a window will display when the
installation is completed to let you install another application or to exit the
installation program.

Solaris
-------

The following explains how to install SILVERRUN applications on workstations or
on a network, the procedure being the same. The system administrator must be
in charge of the following steps.

Note that to obtain the best performance, it is recommended that the application
be installed on workstations.

WARNING: The SILVERRUN package must be installed first and only once regardless
of the number of SILVERRUN products you install. The installation of a SILVERRUN
product is meant to be placed under the SILVERRUN directory/hierarchy, so it is
recommended that you specify the same directory as the SILVERRUN package.

Installation from the CD-ROM
----------------------------------------------

Before you install an application, Motif Runtime Kit, Motif Window Manager, Open
Windows or CDE Desktop Window Manager must be operational.

1-	Enable all users to access the X server if you want to use swmtool:
	% $OPENWINHOME/bin/xhost <machinename>

2-	Become root and place the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. Solaris 2.4 or
above automatically mounts the CD-ROM to /cdrom/unnamed_cdrom

3-	Type this command to determine if Volume Manager is running:
	% /usr/bin/ps -ef | /bin/grep vold
Look for a response similar to the following:
	% ... /usr/sbin/vold

4-	If Volume Manager is not running, type the following:
	# mkdir -p /cdrom/unnamed_cdrom
	# mount -r /dev/dsk/c0t6d0s2 /cdrom/unnamed_cdrom

Once Volume Manager is running, go to Step 10 to do a local installation or Step
5 to do a remote installation.

5-	While on the remote machine, put a line similar to the following into the
	file /etc/dfs/dfstab:
	share -F nfs -o ro /cdrom/unnamed_cdrom

6-	Check to see if nfsd is running by typing:
	# /usr/bin/ps -ef | /bin/grep nfsd
If nfsd is not running, reboot the machine. If Volume Manager does not
come up after reboot, remount the CD and repeat Steps 4-6.

7-	Export the /cdrom/unnamed_cdrom directory
	# shareall

8-	Remote login to the local machine, and type the following lines:
	# rlogin <local_machine> -l root
	Password: root-password
	# mkdir -p /cdrom/unnamed_cdrom
(Do this if /cdrom/unnamed_cdrom does not already exist)
	# setenv DISPLAY remote_machinename:0 (C shell)
		or
	# DISPLAY = remote_machinename:0 ; export DISPLAY (Bourne shell)

9-	Mount the CD-ROM directory from the remote machine as follows:
	# mount -r remote_machine:/cdrom/unnamed_cdrom/cdrom/unnamed_cdrom

10-	Install the SILVERRUN application according to one of the following methods,
then follow the instructions of the installation program.
	# cd /cdrom/cdrom0/solaris
	# pkgadd -d ./SR-<xxx> # where xxx is the SILVERRUN extension product
	# pkgadd -d ./SILVERRUN # to install Wind/U components # only one
	installation is needed
		or
use swmtool in one of these directories:
	/cdrom/cdrom0/Solaris/Sparc

Installation from tape
----------------------------------------------

1-	Use tar xvf /dev/rmt/[0-9] # you must choose only one: 0 or 1 or 2 or ...;
	depending on your installation
change directory to the extract dir
	# cd <extract_dir>

2-	Install the SILVERRUN application
	# pkgadd -d ./SILVERRUN # to install Wind/U components # only one
	installation is needed
	# pkgadd -d ./SR-<xxx> # where xxx is the SILVERRUN extension
	product: RDM, BPM, SYB,...

Environment Variables
----------------------------

It is important to set environment variables properly. They must be exactly the
same as the following ones, or correspond to them. That is they may be different
but must produce the same result:

XMBINDDIR=$MOTIFHOME/lib/bindings
WUHOME=<install_path>/SILVERRUN
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/lib:/usr/lib:$MOTIFHOME/lib:$OPENWINHOME/lib:$WUHOME/lib
SR_<Product_name>_HOME=<install_path>/SILVERRUN_<Product_name>
PATH=$PATH:$SR_<Product_name>_HOME:$WUHOME/bin
export PATH SR_<Product_name>_HOME LD_LIBRARY_PATH WUHOME

<Install_path> refers to the path in which you installed the SILVERRUN tool.
	Ex: /opt

<Product_name>	refers to the name of your tool.
	Ex: WRM

After Installation Supplement
----------------------------------------------

Copy the WindU file located under $WUHOME into each each user's
HOME directory under .WindU.

Ex:	cp $WUHOME/WindU ~user1/.WindU
