Upgrading to Searchlight 2.0

The changes from version 1.x to 2.0 are small, and chiefly serve to add extra flexibility to anyone choosing to use Searchlight to allow searching of a large web site. Although Searchlight is better suited to smaller sites (up to about 50 pages), its SingleSearch mode provides an efficient way to provide search facilities for larger sites. Although no changes are required in order to switch from an earlier version of Searchlight, you may like to note the changes below:

  • The SingleSearch parameter now consists of just one element, the name and location (if necessary) of the SingleSearch file to be read. In previous versions, this parameter also required a figure indicating how many web pages were being referenced in that text file. Searchlight now calculates this figure automatically, making it much simpler to include large numbers of pages and add or remove references without doing a recount each time.

  • Two new parameters, SSMaxLines and SSMaxURLs can now be used in conjunction with the SingleSearch option to override previous restrictions in the number of lines the Singlesearch text file could contain, and the number of matches Searchlight could display in SingleSearch mode.
