Useful Notes

  • Remember to switch off Testmode before placing your files on the server, or your imagemap will be unusable!

  • If you click an Area and want to prevent ProMap linking, drag the pointer out of that Area before releasing the mouse-button.

  • If your applet dimensions are less than about width 250 / height 40, Testmode will not have sufficient space to display the coordinates in Testmode. If this happens, increase the width and height of the applet while in Testmode (the blank areas below and to the right of the image will be filled with BgColor) and then restore the original dimensions after setting up your Area coordinates.

  • In Testmode, you must drag downwards and to the right to draw a rectangle. If your finishing point is above or to the left of your starting point, ProMap registers a negative width and/or height, and the text display will show the word INVALID in place of the coordinates.

  • Although ProMap can grayscale your BaseImage, it's best avoided for large images: since every pixel in the image must be processed, ProMap will take longer to start. In addition, an already-grayscaled image will download faster, so if you want a grayscaled image and monofiltered Areas, it's a lot more user-friendly to grayscale the BaseImage yourself.

  • GIF transparency should be avoided for the BaseImage - it will give unsatisfactory results. However, you can use an AltOverImage or AltDownImage with GIF transparency: the transparent pixels in the alternative image will be replaced by the matching pixels in the BaseImage.

  • There's no necessity for Areas to link anywhere - just leave out the URL and Target parameters. Using Areas and Messages alone can be useful in describing parts of the picture itself (such as toolbars in an application or individual features of a product).
