FileTrack Overview

FileTrack is a menu applet with a difference: it's primarily intended for files that visitors to a site can download for offline use - executables, zip files, product documentation, PDF and MS Word files, and so on. When providing links to a collection of files like this, it helps users to let them know when a file was last updated and how large it is. FileTrack can display your choice of text in a menu entry along with the file's full URL (or just its filename), its size and its date of last modification. Each of these items is optional - display as many or as few as you need to.

FileTrack is similar to our DateTrack 'button' applet, but provides extra functionality and is optimized for the display of details for multiple files. An unlimited number of links may be included on the menu, and the applet can optionally display the word 'NEW!' beside the entry for any file that has been updated within a user-defined number of days.

Colors and fonts are user-definable, a choice of two layout modes is available, and the applet can be set as 'non-linking' to simply provide information rather than links if preferred. Our Testmode feature helps to determine the best applet dimensions.
