Gauge Bean Installation Instructions

Software Requirements

The Gauge Beans require Java 1.1. Applets made with these Beans require a Java 1.1-compatible browser or the JDK 1.1 AppletViewer. Similarly, Java applications that use the Gauge Beans require a Java 1.1-compatible Java Virtual Machine.

The Gauge sample applet requires Netscape 4.06, or higher, or Interner Explorer 4.01, or higher to function correctly. It also assumes that the swing.jar (from Swing 1.0.3) is in your CLASSPATH.

The Gauge Beans have been tested in these environments:

Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 98, with JDK 1.1.7, Swing 1.0.3 and Swing 1.1.

To install the Gauge Beans:

  1. Unzip the file s_gauges130.zip to a local directory of your choice.
  2. Import s103_gauges.jar or s11_gauges.jar into your favorite visual builder. Note that, at the time of this release, not all visual builders support Swing 1.1 (VisualAge for Java 2.0 with Rollup2 does not support Swing 1.1).

The documentation for all of the beans is provided in the ZIP file. Open index.htm in your extract subdirectory. Note that JavaDoc documentation is provided for the Swing 1.0.3 version only since the Swing 1.1 version is, to all intents and purposes, identical.

To import the Gauge Bean into VisualAge for Java:

  1. Open IBM VisualAge for Java.
  2. Import s103_gauges.jar into the project you use to contain all imported beans and samples. Since VisualAge for Java does not support Swing 1.1, importing s11_gauges.jar is not recommended.
  3. Add the Gauge Beans to the palette in a category of your choice.
See the VisualAge for Java online help if you need assistance adding a Bean to the palette.
