Super FileCat is a file catalog designed for the avid downloader who would like to keep files for future reference. Programmers and Windows95/98/NT4 users will find it useful for keeping code snippets, demos, shareware and freeware components, upgrades, etc. Super FileCat gives you a large file description text area to keep details of the file, I usually expand the zip file and copy the readme into the file description. Includes ZIP file expansion, copy/move/rename files, create folders, etc. There are many uses for Super FileCat.

Database and Index Creation

During initialization the database and index files are checked, and if any are missing, they will be created.
**** Always backup your database. ****

Getting Started

Please review the Operations section of the Help file first.

*** This application is shipped without the required databases and indexes. These will be created the first time you run Super FileCat, and any time in the future that these files are not found.

1. The first Catalog tab, named 'Temporary', is set up automatically. To rename this Catalog, click the Menu 'Catalog/Rename' for the Rename Catalog form. If you want to Add a new Catalog, click the Menu 'Catalog/Add' for the Add Catalog form.

2. To Add a record click the Add button to bring up the Add Record form. Click 'Ok' and you will see that file has been added to the File Name section and a temporary File Title (new record ~~~ 'file name') was inserted in the File Title section. Click the Edit button to change the File Title and enter a File Description. Enter up to 80 characters for your File Title. Tab or move the cursor to the File Description section and add whatever information you like. You can copy text from the clipboard to this area. After you have added the information click the Save button to Save the Record.

3. To Edit a record click the Edit button and move the cursor to the text areas of the File Title or File Description and make your changes. If you want to change the File Name doubleclick on the File Name and the File Name Entry form will be available for you to select another file to replace the current one. After you have edited the information click the Save button to Save the Record. If at any time you want to cancel the editing of the file you can click the Edit button to release it and the Edit will be cancelled.

Suggested Test

After you've created the database's and are looking at a blank form, press the ADD button. From the Folder listing select a ZIP file if you have one, but any file will do. When you press Ok the file name and data will be copied to the File Name panel on the main form, you can now enter data into the Title and Description edit boxes. If you selected a ZIP file, press the ZIP button. From the opened Zip Archive form look for a text file. If you find one double-click on it to extract the text. Press your right mouse button and press 'Select All' then press the 'Copy to Desc' button and the text will be entered into the Description memo field on the main form. You can then type or copy text into the Title edit box and press SAVE to save your entries.
