			1. What is TexToys?

TexToys is a pair of applications for creating interactive exercises based on reading texts for the World Wide Web. One program, WebRhubarb, creates exercises in the style of the Rhubarb/StoryBoard/Eclipse family of programs which emerged in the 1980s; the other, WebSequitur, produces exercises similar to those in John Higgins's Sequitur program. Both types of exercise are text reconstruction exercises. The exercises produced by TexToys will work in Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer (versions 3 and above), so the student does not need to have any special software installed on his or her machine. Also included is a short tutorial, an extensive help file, and some example files.

TexToys is a Windows 95 program.

			2. Shareware Distribution

Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before buying it. TexToys is distributed as a "light" freeware version which will allow you to work with short texts. If you want to use longer texts, you will have to register the program (see below).

Copyright laws apply to both shareware and retail software, and the copyright holder retains all rights. You may distribute TexToys to other users free of charge, PROVIDING THAT YOU PASS ON THE SUITE IN ITS ORIGINAL ARCHIVE FORM, AND DO NOT ADD OR REMOVE ANY FILES FROM THE ARCHIVE.

				5. Installation

TexToys is distributed on the WWW as a self-extracting zip file (TexToysxx.exe, where "xx" is the version number). Simply copy the file into an empty directory and run it. The program files will be extracted. Then run "setup.exe" to install the program. An icon will be added to the Start menu. Installation will copy all of the files to TexToys's own folder.

TexToys includes a full uninstall program. To remove the program from your system, use the Add/Remove Programs applet in the Windows95 Control Panel. You can also delete the program folder to remove all files from your system.

				6. Getting Started

TexToys comes with a detailed HELP file and a tutorial which you can view in your Web browser to help you familiarise yourself with the types of exercise the programs produce. Double click on the Tutorial icon in the TexToys folder to start the tutorial. Please note that you will need a Web browser program installed on your system in order to view the tutorial.
