Requirements
============

* Pentium 75 or higher PC system.
* Windows 98, Windows 95 OSR2 or Windows NT 4.0 w/Service Pack 5.
* 16MB RAM (32 MB recommended).
* 5 MB of disk space.
* A JARING UUCP account.

Demo Version Restrictions
=========================

You may install and use JMail for a period of 30 days. If you want to continue using JMail thereafter, you need to register your copy of JMail. The demo version allows you to create a maximum of 3 mailboxes/users.


Pre-Installation Checklist
==========================

1. Configure your system for DIAL-UP NETWORKING. We have included a JARING dial-up script with JMail called jar-jmail.scp . You can find this file in the \Program Files\Accessories folder    after you install JMail.
2. Install WINDOWS SOCKETS VERSION 2 if you are going to install JMail on a PC running Windows 95. This update may be obtained from www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/. Download the item listed as 'Windows 95 Windows Sockets 2 Update' under the section SERVICE PACKS AND UPDATES - Windows 95. Run the downloaded program and follow the on-screen instructions.

Please refer to the Windows documentation and help files for information on installing the above components.

Installation
============

If you downloaded JMail from the Web, ensure that you have a UnZip utility. 

To install JMail:

1. UnZip the downloaded disk1.zip to a temporary directory if you downloaded JMail from the Web or insert the JMail installation disk into your floppy drive.
2. Run Setup.exe.
3. Follow the instructions as given by the JMail Setup Wizard.
4. Start JMail from the Start Menu, Programs, JMail shortcut.

Postmaster Logon
================

When JMail is started, a postmaster logon window appears. The default password for a new installation is postmaster. You may change this password later using a e-mail command. Refer to the online help for more information.

Additional Settings
===================

In order to transfer mail from remote UUCP/SMTP hosts, you need to supply additional information to JMail. This may be done using the System and Remote Schedule submenus under the Settings menu. Refer to the online help for more information about these settings.

Uninstalling JMail
==================

JMail may be uninstalled from the Control Panel using the 
Add/Remove Programs option.

3. Amount of RAM installed on PC.
