Introduction - The Ultimate Clipboard!
--------------------------------------
If you copy and paste data in Windows or on the internet, this utility
is for you! ClipMate is an award-winning Windows clipboard enhancement
tool, and has been reviewed in periodicals such as PC Magazine,
Windows Magazine, PC World, InfoWorld, and more. ClipMate was
honored with the 1997 Shareware Industry Award for "Best Utility".
With ClipMate as your Windows companion, you'll take the familiar
underpowered clipboard and turn it into an unexpectedly powerful
timesaver.

ClipMate works alongside the regular Windows clipboard and remembers
every piece of data (both text and graphics) that you cut or copy.
Once your data is saved in ClipMate, you can select an item and it is
automatically placed back on the clipboard or directly into an
application. You can create an unlimited number of collections
to store your data, and you have full control over the retention
rules so that your collections fit your personal work process.
For example, you can use a "Short-Term" collection as a catch-all
and create "Long-Term" collections for topics like Tips & Tricks,
Frequently Used Letter Closings, Clip Art, Hot Internet Web Pages,
Project Research, or whatever you wish.

New Features In Version 5

Too many to list here - see "What's New" under ClipMate's Help menu.

      drag 'n' drop everything!

- And More! See "What's New" in the online help for full descriptions.

Fixes Since Last Release
------------------------
(5.0.10) build 90 - March 6, 1999
Fixed a problem with QuickPaste Double-Click that was created by
the QuickPaste change made in 5.0.9.`

------------------------
(5.0.9) build 89 - March 5, 1999

ENHANCEMENTS:
Added some MouseWheel support. If the main ClipMate window has focus,
then the mousewheel will scroll up/down the clip list.
The Collection Tree, ClipList, and Preview/Edit window have their
own mousewheel operation, which is in effect when they have focus.
They all perform scrolling, appropriate to the control.

Added some additional configuration to the Export function. When exporting
to files using the numerical sequence for file names (0001.txt, 0002.txt,
etc., it would always start over at 0001 the next time that you exported.
Now, it will remember where it left off. If you prefer to start over
at 1 every time, then you can - there is a new "Reset Sequence" option
     on the Export Dialog.

FIXES:
Fixed the purging of collections with time-based retention rules. It should
now properly purge collections, even if you haven't added any new clips
to that collection. Also, if you had a collection defined as ZERO DAYS
retention, it would actually add 1 day to the rule, thus defeating
those who wanted to automatically empty the collection on shutdown. That
is fixed. If you set a collection to ZERO DAYS, it will clear out the
collection when you shut-down, or SAVE. Auto-Save does not trigger
the purging - that's by design.
Changed the Icon Selector buttons on the Collection Properties dialog, so that
they wouldn't overwrite your icon choice, when changing data retention
     types.
Synchronized fonts in the Preview/Edit Text window, and ClipList.
They both use the font selected in the Preview/Edit window, so that
if you have data that needs a particular font to display properly,
     the ClipList will look ok.
Made a change to allow Russian fonts to display in the ClipList, by synchronizing
the character set of the ClipList to the character set of the Edit window.
Fixed problems with the Hebrew edition of MS Word.
Fixed problem with QuickPaste and double-click. It used to think that you
were starting a drag 'n' drop operation.
Editor wouldn't retain selection after case conversion - not it does.
Various Cosmetic fixes - particularly when using the "large font" system font.
Fixed problem with the "Enter Registration Key" dialog box losing focus.
Metafile Pictures now scale properly when viewed in the Preview/Edit pane.

(5.0.8) build 76 - Jan 22, 1999
Added more data integrity logic.
Fixed sound problem where it would play the "duplicate item rejected" sound even
if you had turned this option off.
Fixed various problems with AutoSave, Save from File Menu, and internal data
handling functions - all related to stability problems encountered since
     5.0.6.
As a result of above changes, the Data Purge is now effective when you perform
a File | Save operation, so that you can force it to discard old data
without shutting down. Very useful for people who go through thousands of
clips each day. As before, AutoSave will not cause purging.

(5.0.7) Build 71 - Jan 16, 1999
Fixed another problem with the shutdown procedure.
Added routine to convert the UniformResourceLocator format to TEXT, to
     make it more useful.

(5.0.6) Build 70 - Jan 14, 1999
Fixed shutdown procedure, added more logging.
Fixed column heading icons in ClipList.

(5.0.6) Build 65- Jan 12, 1999
Fixed a variety of "always on top" problems where certain dialogs and message
boxes would be hidden by the main window, if it was set to always
     stay on top.
The ClipList and Printout timestamps now conform to local date/time formats.
Printing multiple items, one to a page, is now possible. There was a bug
that forced it to use the multiple items/page even if that option
     was turned off.
Sort arrows are now displayed - they went away in 5.0.4, but now they're back.
System Tray now hides taskbar icon! So you only have one icon.
Save operation now restores ClipList selection, instead of overwriting with
     "Data Saved" message.
Upgraded to newest version of WISE Installer. Patches will be available
for future updates, meaning that instead of having to download the
whole installation, you'll be able to download a smaller patch to
     update your files.
Added "cleanup.exe" for uninstalling. This will allow the user to destroy
the default data source, instead of leaving the data behind, during
     uninstall.
Uninstaller will now remove registry key entries.

(5.0.5 - Not Released)
Fixed a QuickPaste bug introduced in 5.0.4
Added an accomodation for systems where the AppData directory, as specified
in the registry, is not writeable by the current user. Instead, it
will create a DATA folder beneath where ClipMate is running from.

(5.0.4)
Changed behavior of drop-down list in Traditional View, so that it rolls back
      up, when focus shifts away.
Fixed column heading sorting, so that it sorts on the first try, instead of
      requiring two clicks.
Disabled Property dialog for Trashcan, Search Results psedu-collections.
Fixed tooltips problem with the ClipList - it would show, even if you had
      turned tooltips off.
Fixed another tooltips problem - it wouldn't turn off, unless you entered
and exited User Preferences. Then, it would forget at next restart.
Changed "character set" for the Editor, so that it should now be able to
display Japanese, and other localized character sets.

(5.0.3)	(Released as Beta)
Fixed conflict between Auto-Hide and Run Minimized.
Fixed problem finding help file.
Fixed error when moving item that had been edited immediately prior to being moved.
Fixed "ghosting" problem with resizing columns in the ClipList.
Fixed various typos.
Fixed problem with Startup Delay setting - it wasn't taking effect.
Fixed problem with editing data sources - it would sometimes edit the wrong entry.
Fixed problem with the Always On Top behavior covering dialog boxes and messages.
Fixed problem with exporting clips - if there was only one clip in the collection,
      it wouldn't export anything.
Fixed problem with the "Tack" icon in the Editor. It was preventing items from
      being copied to the clipboard.
Added option to the system menu (menu under the program icon in the upper-left
corner of the main window) to cycle through window sizes. Without it,
there is no obvious way of restoring the main menu, once you've shrunken the
window down far enough that the menu has disappeared.
Fixed problem with Glue - if you selected the bottom item in the colleciton to be
glued, it would skip it. This happened a LOT during the tutorial, where it
      would miss "Apple".
Fixed problem with launching URLs with numbers in them.
Fixed problem with the main titlebar showing the incorrect collection name when
      adding new, empty collections.
Fixed problem with Editor where under some situations, would delete the data.
Fixed problem with landscape printing.
Added missing confirmation dialog when deleting from safe list.
Fixed link to "Sorting" in online help, where one sorting topic referred to itself,
instead of the other sorting topic.

(5.0.2a)
Fixed problem finding help file. The installer didn't
set the default directory, so on some systems, the program
couldn't find the help file. Only the installer changed,
the program files are exactly as in v5.0.2

(5.0.2)
Fixed problem with shutdown on Win98. Windows would close
before user preferences could be written to disk.

(5.0.1)
There was a problem with the registration key validation.

Upgrade Notes
-------------
ClipMate 5 is completely oblivious to ClipMate 4, except that
the installer will attempt to find and remove the shortcut to
ClipMate 4 in the startup folder, so that you don't have
   two versions running.
ClipMate 5 will not harm your ClipMate 4 data! It installs into
a different location, and keeps data in a separate place. You can
import your ClipMate 4 data into ClipMate 5 through the File menu.
This is a one-way import, and basically just copies old collections
into the new location.

Registered Users of ClipMate 4:
Registered users of ClipMate 4 that purchased on or after
October 17th, 1998 will receive ClipMate 5 for free.
All other registered users will need to purchase an upgrade.

There are 2 options for upgrading:
1. If you want a diskette and manual shipped to you, the cost is $12
plus shipping ($2 to North America, $4 to rest of world).
2. If you want to download the software from the WWW and receive a
registration key to "unlock" it, but DON'T want a diskette or
manual shipped to you, then you can save some money... the cost
is $10 and no shipping charge (because nothing is physically shipped).

Data Location:
-------------
The windows registry tells applications where to store application
data (data used by applications, but not normally available as
document files.) We're adhering to this, but you can override
by creating a new "data source", and dropping the default data
source. See the DATA tab in User Preferences.
Under Windows95, the default is in the "My Documents" folder, and
under NT, it's in \winnt\profiles\<userid>\application data\
In each case, we go down two levels further with
\thornsoft development\ClipMate 5\

Issues
------
System Folders -
In directory selection dialogs, you cannot pick customized
folders where you've set the system flag to make Win98
recognize custom icons.

Printing -
The print engine that we're using doesn't get along with some printers.
See if you can update to newer print drivers from the printer vendor.
We're going to consider re-writing the print engine in v5.1.

QuickPaste -
Many users have written asking that the QuickPaste be returned to the
way that it worked in v4.5. We're re-designing the QuickPaste for v5.1.
It will be as flexible as in v4.5, yet will be completely compatible
with the new interface.
