INTRODUCTION

The RES2DINV package comes in a single compressed installation file
SETUP.EXE. It is a Windows based installation program which will
install the program files.

If you are using Windows 3.1, click File in the Program Manager top menu
bar, and then Run followed by Browse to locate the program subdirectory.
Choose the SETUP.EXE file and then click the OK button. This program will
automatically install the RES2DINV program files. In Windows 3.1, the
Microsoft WIN32S driver is required to run the RES2DINV program. Please
read the section below about this driver.

If you are using Windows 95, click Start, and then Settings followed by
Control Panel, and then Add/Remove Programs. There is no need to install
the WIN32S driver as Windows 95 will automatically support 32-bit
Windows based programs.

It is recommended that you run the SETUP.EXE program directly from the
File/Run option in the Program Manager in Win 3.1, or from the Start/Run
or the Control Panel in Win 95. Do not run the SETUP.EXE program from
another program such as a file or directory manager program such as the
File Manager in Win 3.1 or the Windows Explorer in Win 95.

After installing the RES2DINV.EXE program, you should run the
JACOBWIN.EXE program to create several support files. You only have
to run the JACOBWIN.EXE program once after installing the RES2DINV
program.

To get the best performance from this program, you should use Windows
in the 800x600 or the 1024x786 graphics mode with 256 colours. If you
are still using the 640x480 VGA graphics mode, try to change to the
800x600 mode which gives more room to display the pseudosections. To
display the colours properly, you will need to use a 256 colours mode.
It will run with the 16-bit (64K) and 24-bit (16.7 million) colour
modes, but graphics operations will be significnatly slower and the
memory available to the program will be less.

If you are using a screen saver, please turn it off or change the
time setting to at least 20 minutes. Some large data sets can take
a while to invert, and the screen saver has an unfortunate habit
clearing the screen!

************** IMPORTANT NOTE FOR WINDOWS 3.1 USERS *************

MICROSOFT WIN32S DRIVER

To use this program with the 16-bit Windows 3.1 operating system, you will
need to install the Microsoft Win32s driver which enables 32-bit programs
to run under Windows 3.1. You can download the latest version of this
driver (ver. 1.30c in April 1997) from most shareware Internet sites,
such as www.acs.oakland.edu/oak/oak.html, or directly from www.microsoft.com.

The compressed file for all the Win32s files is about 2 megabytes. If you
have not yet installed this, you can install it by running the SETUP.EXE
file using the File and then Run options in the Program Manager.

If an earlier version of this driver has already been installed, you need
to upgrade it to ver. 1.30. You can determine the version of Win32s by
checking the win32s.ini file (typically found in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
subdirectory). You can open and view this file with a text editor, such as
NOTEPAD, and check for a line such as

	1.20.123 1.20

which means that it is version 1.20. To install a newer version, you must
remove the existing Win32s driver manually. First in the Windows
subdirectory, typically the C:\WINDOWS subdirectory, open the SYSTEM.INI
file with the text editor. Go to the [BOOT] section, and look for a line
that reads

	drivers=mmsystem.dll winmm16.dll

and edit this line so that it becomes

	drivers=mmsystem.dll

In some cases, there might be another item in between the mmsystem.dll and
winmm16.dll parameters. In this case, keep a copy of the existing line by
putting a REM in front of it to turn it into a comment line. Next just type
drivers=mmsystem.dll after that line. Next, go to the [386Enh] section of
the SYSTEM.INI file, and delete the line that reads

	device=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WIN32S\W32S.386

After that, Save and Exit the SYSTEM.INI file. Next, go to the FILE MANAGER
and change to the Windows subdirectory (usually C:\WINDOWS). Change to the
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM subdirectory and look for the following files

	W32SYS.DLL
	WIN32S16.DLL
	WIN32S.INI

and delete these files. In the same subdirectory, look for the subdirectory
WIN32S, and delete it. Exit the File Manager and Windows and restart the
computer. After that, run the SETUP program using the File and Run options
from the Program Manager. There had been reports of conflicts between the
Windows driver for the S3 graphics card with the Win32s driver. In this
case, you need to upgrade the S3 driver to version 2.40 or newer.
