ActiCalc is an easy-to-use general-purpose desktop 
calculator.  Unlike most calculator programs, it 
provides a visual calculation "tape" that records 
all calculations and permits entries to be updated.  
This tape is tightly integrated with Microsoft Excel 
to permit simple calculation sequences to seamlessly 
evolve into complex spreadsheets.

ActiCalc is a 32-bit program, supported only in 
Microsoft Windows95 and Windows NT environments.  
The program cannot be run under Windows 3.1 or 
earlier versions.

To install ActiCalc, unzip the distribution file 
to a temporary folder.  Then double-click on the 
SETUP.EXE program and follow instructions to complete 
the installation.  For assistance in installing or

ActiCalc is distributed as shareware.  Please read 
LICENSE.TXT before using ActiCalc.  That file 
includes important information about registration 
and technical support.  After installation, all 
BASIC program functions will be available.  The 
BASIC program is a highly functional, easy to use 
calculator.  The BASIC functions can be used for 
an unlimited time at no charge.  The program also 
includes a set of PREMIUM features that are 
accessible only by registered users.  

If you find the BASIC program useful, you will 
probably be interested in activating the premium 
features.  These include:

  SAVE/RESTORE allows you to save the current "tape" 
      and recall it at any future time.  This is 
      useful if you have certain calculations that 
      you perform regularly.  Once the tape is 
      opened, you can double-click prior entries 
      to update them, repeating the original 
      sequence of calculation steps.

  PRINT allows you to document calculations for 
      future reference.

  EXPORT TO EXCEL quickly and automatically transfers 
      the current tape to a Microsoft EXCEL spreadsheet, 
      where you co do extensive editing and formatting.  
      The EXCEL spreadsheet includes formulas that 
      mirror the ActiCalc tape function exactly.  All 
      memory and cell references are carried across 
      to the EXCEL spreadsheet.

  EXPORT TO WORD automatically transfers the current 
      tape to a Microsoft Word document.  The export 
      function activates Word, creates, a new document, 
      builds a Word table, and inserts the ActiCalc 
      data into the table.  The cell contents are 
      copied across as simple text. You can use normal 
      Word functions, such as table auto-format, 
      to customize the appearance.

  In addition, in the BASIC version, the tape is 
      limited to 12 entries, which is more than 
      adequate for casual use.  At the PREMIUM level, 
      there are no limits.

The EXCEL export function is fully supported for 
EXCEL 97.  It has been tested successfully in 
EXCEL 95, but is only supported with that release 
on a best effort basis.

The Word export function is fully supported for 
Word 97.  It has been tested successfully in 
Word 95, but is only supported with that release 
on a best effort basis.

The PREMIUM feature package is available for 
$25 (US).  When you register the program, you 
will immediately receive a temporary key that 
activates the PREMIUM functions for a short time.  
Within 3 business days, you will receive an email 
with your own permanent key for the PREMIUM 
functions.  This key will work with the current 
ActiCalc release and any newer release published 
within one year of your registration.

When you receive the key (temporary or permanent), 
you must register it in the program in order to 
activate the PREMIUM features.  This is done by 
accessing HELP-ABOUT from the menu.  Follow the 
instructions from that point.

Save your key in case it becomes necessary to 
reinstall ActiCalc on your computer.
