I. IntranetWare

     A. NetWare 4.11

          1. Installation Issues

               a. Using the User Object ADMIN on a New Server
in a New Directory Tree Installation

When a new server is installed in a new Directory
tree, the ADMIN object is automatically created
as part of the installation. However, no default
language is set for User object ADMIN. This must
be manually set before you can view and access
Directory resources in a language other
                  than English.

For example, if you install a new server in a
new tree in French, you must first log in to
the tree in English and then set the preferred
language for ADMIN in NetWare Administrator.
Then, you must reboot the workstation before
                  the changes take affect.

               b. Running the DOS Installation Program for NetWare
Client 32 for DOS and Windows 3.1x

The NWLANGUAGE environment variable must be
                  set before running the DOS-based
installation program for NetWare Client 32 for
DOS and Windows 3.1x. For example, type SET
                  NWLANGUAGE=FRANCAIS to install a French
version of the software. Enter one of the following
values depending on the desired language:

                  Language Value
                  ------------------------------
                  English English
                  French Francais
                  German Deutsch
                  Spanish Espanol
                  Portugese Portugue
                  Italian Italiano
                  Korean Korean
                  Chinese Chineset
                  (Traditional)
                  Chinese Chineses
                  (Simplified)
                  Japanese Nihongo

IMPORTANT: You must also set the NWLANGUAGE
                             variable before running the program
                             in English.

               c. Installing NetWare Client 32 for Windows 95
on ATI PRO100B PCI or Intel EtherExpress Network
                  Boards

The ATI PRO100B PCI and Intel EtherExpress
network boards currently use the same device ID.
Depending on the order that Windows 95 detects
the devices, it might select the incorrect driver
name for your particular board. However, the LAN
drivers for each board are programmatically the
same. Both LAN drivers support either board.

          2. Upgrade/Migration Issues

               a. Upgrading a Mounted Volume into the Directory

If the NetWare Server object is not deleted
properly, the Volume objects that referenced
the NetWare Server object are changed to
Unknown objects. If Unknown objects exist in
the Directory for these types of Volume objects,
the "Upgrade Mounted Volumes into the directory"
option in the server installation program allows
you to select the volume but does not
successfully upgrade the Volume object, and the
volume remains in the selection list.

To resolve the problem, you should first delete
all Unknown objects. Then recreate all Volume
objects that were changed to Unknown objects
                  before you upgrade the server.

               b. Upgrading NetWare for OS/2 in a Different Language

If a language other than the default server
language is selected during an upgrade of NetWare
for OS/2, the INSTALL.NLM portion of the upgrade
process will be in English, and the server will
revert back to the previous language after the
                  upgrade is complete.

Before starting the upgrade process, change the
default server language by completing the
                  following steps:

                  1. At the server console, load INSTALL.

                  2. Choose "Product Options."

                  3. Choose "Change Server Language."

Press F8 and read the help screen to determine
the correct path name for the language files you
                     are installing.

                  4. Choose "Change Server Language."

                  5. Press F3 to change the path that was specified
                     in the help screen.

          3. Server Issues

               a. Running TELNETD.NLM

If you are using the TELNETD.NLM program, ensure
that NETDB.NLM is loaded prior to loading
                  TELNETD.NLM. The NETDB.NLM program was
automatically loaded in previous versions of
NetWare 4 but is not loaded automatically
in NetWare 4.11. Novell products such as
NetWare SAA, NetWare/IP, and NetWare Web Server
require telnet support to be available.

               b. Downing a Server Running DHCP Server

Before downing a server running the DHCP server
software, first unload the DHCP server software.
This allows the DHCP server to write to the
DHCPTAB log file on volume SYS: before the volume
is made unavailable. If the DHCP server software
is not unloaded before downing a server, it might
                  hang or abend on exit.

IMPORTANT: If you have installed the NetWare
Client 32 software from the Novell
Internet Access Server 4 CD, you
should update the TCPIP.NLM file on
                             each workstation before running
NetWare/IP. You can get a copy of
the updated TCPIP.NLM file from the
                             NetWare 4.11 Operating System CD.

               c. Obtaining an IP Address with BOOTP Clients across
                  a Router

To allow NetWare Client 32 for DOS and Windows 3.1x
workstations to get an IP address from a DHCP
server across a router, update all
client workstations with the latest version of
the NetWare Client 32 for DOS and Window 3.1x
software. This software is on the NetWare 4.11
Operating System CD. Then install the DHCP 2.0D
software, available on the Novell Support
                  Connection.

See "XIII. Technical Support Contacts" in the
NetWare 4.11 readme file for more information.

          4. Utilities

               a. Running a New Version of NetWare Administrator

If you have problems loading the NetWare
Administrator and you have run a beta version of
                  NetWare 4.11 NetWare Administrator under
Windows 3.1x or Windows 95, reset the
NetWare Administrator settings. To do this,
delete the NWADMN3x.INI file from the Windows
directory or delete the following key from
the Windows 95 registry using REGEDIT:

                  HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\netware\parameters\
                  NetWare Administrator

               b. Loading DS Migrate on a Server Running a
                  Different Language Than Originally Installed

When DS Migrate is loaded a server running a
different language than was originally installed,
DS Migrate uses the same language as the language
last installed on that server. If DS Migrate
loads in a different language that you prefer,
reinstall the language you prefer on the server
                  and then rerun DS Migrate.

               c. Using the NWXTRACT Utility

The NWXTRACT utility lets you expand compressed
files stored on the CD-ROM. To access NWXTRACT,
                  use the following path:

                  PRODUCTS\NW411\INSTALL\IBM\os_type\XXX\language\
                  NWXTRACT.EXE

Use the /? parameter to access the command line
                  help for more information.

          5. Data Protection Services

               a. Running SFT III on SMP Servers

To run SFT III on SMP servers, use the
                  SFTDPPSM.NLM available through the Novell
                  Support Connection. SFTDPPSM.NLM provides dual
processor support for SFT III on SMP servers.

See "XIII. Technical Support Contacts" in the
NetWare 4.11 readme file for more information.

You should configure all SMP servers that you want
to run SFT III by editing the IOSTART.NCF file on
each server to load SFTDPPSM.NLM. Ensure
that SFTDPPSM.NLM is loaded after the load
statement for the PSM file. For example,

                  LOAD MPS14.PSM
                  LOAD SFTDPPSM.NLM

NOTE: SFTDPPSM.NLM will only run with
                        NetWare 4.11 PSM drivers.

               b. Running INETCFG on an SFT III Server

The INETCFG utility will not load on the IOEngine
unless a LAN driver has been previously loaded and
bound. This is required for communication to be
                  established with the MSEngine.

If you load INETCFG and receive a "Please Wait"
message, increase the amount of RAM allocated
in the IOEngine. To do this, edit the IOSTART.NCF
file on each server by modifying the following
parameter to increase the allocated IOEngine
                  memory:

NEW START ADDRESS FOR UNCLAIMED MEMORY
                     BLOCK=new_size

NOTE: This is common problem for servers that
load additional software such as management
                        agents, NetWare LANalyzer Agent, backup
software, and protocols in the IOEngine.

     B. Novell Internet Access Server 4

          1. Using NetWare MultiProtrocol Router 3.1 and the Novell
Internet Access Server 4 Software Together

If you are experiencing problems with maintaining
links between servers running MPR 3.1 and the Novell
Internet Access Server 4 software, ensure that both
servers are running the latest version of PPPTSM.NLM.
The latest version is available on the Novell Internet
             Access Server 4 CD-ROM.

     C. FTP Services for IntranetWare (NetWare Unix Print
        Services 2.11)

          1. Installing NetWare/IP and FTP Services on the Same
             Server

If you will install NetWare/IP and FTP Services for
IntranetWare, you must install FTP Services for
             IntranetWare after installing NetWare/IP.

          2. Installing FTP Services for IntranetWare with Novell
             Internet Access Server 4

If you first install Novell Internet Access
Server 4, you must down and then restart the server
before installing the FTP Services for IntranetWare
(NetWare Unix Print Services 2.11). If you try
to install FTP Services for IntranetWare immediately
after installing Novell Internet Access Server 4,
             the following message appears:

              "The NetWare Loadable Module NWUXPS:\NWUXPS\PINSTALL
              could not be loaded. (INSTALL-4.11-127)

              Press <Enter> to continue."

In this case you must restart the server and then
proceed with the FTP Services for IntranetWare
             installation.

          3. Removing FTP Services for IntranetWare

If you uninstall FTP Services for IntranetWare (NetWare
Unix Print Services 2.11) it removes the UNISTART.NCF
file. The UNISTART.NCF file is also used by other
products such as NetWare/IP, NFS, Web Server, and NUC.
Make sure that you backup a copy of the UNISTART.NCF
file before uninstalling FTP Services for IntranetWare
             software.

II. Installing Novell Online Documentation Collections

When online documentation collections are installed, they are
referenced in the DYNATEXT.INI file for private installations,
or the in SYSDOCS.CFG for public installations. These
collection references are limited to 2048 characters for a
single volume. The documentation viewer does not recognize
     any characters after 2048.

If your collection references exceed 2048 characters, install
additional collections on a different volume.
