A. BEFORE YOU RUN THE CC:MAIL FOR WINDOWS INSTALL PROGRAM

1. Making Install Efficient
----------------------------

To maximize the efficiency of the installation process, run the
DOS command CHKDSK /F on the drive where you plan to install
cc:Mail. This reclaims lost clusters on the drive (you do not
have to convert the lost clusters to files). Run CHKDSK before
you run Install, and close Windows beforehand.

2. Installing in a WIN-OS/2 Session
------------------------------------

To install cc:Mail in a WIN-OS/2 session, set the DPMI_MEMORY_LIMIT
to at least 8 MB for the session so that memory problems do not occur.

The following procedure is one way to accomplish this.

1. Click the WIN-OS/2 icon on the OS/2 desktop with the right mouse
    button to display the menu.
2. Click the arrow to the right of the Open menu choice.
3. Click Settings.
4. In the settings notebook for WIN-OS/2, click the Session tab.
5. Click the WIN-OS/2 button.
6. Click the DPMI_MEMORY_LIMIT setting on the left side of the dialog
    box.
7. Change the corresponding value on the right side of the screen to
    be at least 8 MB.
8. Click the Save button.
9. Double-click the upper left-hand corner of the notebook window
to close it and return to the OS/2 desktop.

3. Using Automated Install
---------------------------

Automated Install is a feature that allows users to run the Lotus
Install program without the user interface. This feature is useful
for system administrators who manage installations for large groups
of users with uniform computer configurations. cc:Mail administrators
use this feature by filling in the fields in a response file
(INSTALL.RSP), and then distributing that file to end users. The
information in the response file provides input to the Install program
automatically, so that users don't need to supply the information
themselves.

CAUTION: Only cc:Mail administrators should edit the response file.
Individual users should use the response file provided by their
cc:Mail administrator as is.

Refer to the "Lotus cc:Mail Release 8 Planning and Installation
Guide" for an explanation of the install options (Standalone Install,
Server Install, Distribution Install, and Node Install).

Following is a general procedure for using Automated Install.
Read the comments in the response file for full instructions.

   1. Make a copy of the response file. (Go to the DOS prompt and
change to the directory containing the response file,
INSTALL.RSP. Then type COPY INSTALL.RSP ORIGINAL.RSP and press
      ENTER.)
Tip System administrators decide the name of the response file.
They can name the file based on the type of installation
it is, for example, stand.rsp and node.rsp.
   2. Fill in each field in the response file (INSTALL.RSP) using a
      text editor.
   3. Save the file.
   4. Test the response file by performing several Node installations
that use this file as input (see step 4).
   5. Distribute the response file to users, along with instructions
on how to perform an installation. Users should choose
File - Run from the Windows Program Manager and type the
      following command:

      <path>\install /A <ResponseFilePath> [/U [UserName]]

   For example:
      X:\CCMAIL\INSTALL /A X:\CCMAIL\INSTALL.RSP

Read the documentation in the response file for a full description
of the command line.

4. Using the Correct LotusScript DLLs for cc:Mail Forms
--------------------------------------------------------

You must use the correct LotusScript DLLs so that your computer does
not hang after you perform a node installation and open a form or form
template.

The correct LotusScript DLLs are the following files:

Name Size in bytes
LSCONST LSS 4,951
LSERR LSS 10,318
LSEW30EN DLL 17,792
LSKW30EN DLL 18,896
LSLW30EN HLP 681,732
LTEDW10 DLL 72,928
LTLRW10 DLL 45,840
LTSCSD10 TLB 822,912
LTSCSW10 DLL 80,624
LTSIW30 DLL 491,968
LTSP30 LSL 323,408
LTSPW30 DLL 308,416
LTSSW30 DLL 84,832
LTSUW30 DLL 305,392

If you have other versions of these files, delete them.
When you run cc:Mail Release 6.03 Install, the correct
LotusScript DLLs are installed.

If you switch between local and network installations, make sure that
both the Common Directory (local) and the Net Common Directory specified
in LOTUS.INI have these LotusScript DLLs.

5. Using the Current Lotus ODBC Driver DLLs for Organizer
----------------------------------------------------------

Organizer requires the following four Lotus ODBC driver DLLs
with 1995 dates:
Name Date Size in bytes

* LOBAS06.DLL	6/15/95		162,240
* LOUTL06.DLL	6/15/95		148,592
* LOTXT06.DLL	6/20/95		91,408
* LOFLT06.DLL	6/15/95		202,400

There are two sets of these DLLs with the same version number. cc:Mail
Release 6.03 Install examines the version number and does not overwrite
one set with the other. The only way to distinguish the current files
from the original files is to look at each file's date and size.

If you have the earlier version of these files (dated 1994),
delete them. Using the earlier version of these files prevents
Organizer from exporting data or accessing databases.

After deleting the earlier version of these files, you can run
cc:Mail Release 6.03 Install, which installs the current version of
these four files.

B. DURING CC:MAIL INSTALLATION

6. Installing on Computers With Multiple Configurations
--------------------------------------------------------

The Install program may offer to modify your AUTOEXEC.BAT file,
(adding a line to load the SHARE utility and updating the PATH
statement). If you choose Yes, Install will modify only the first
path statement it encounters. If you use a release of DOS that
supports multiple configurations and your AUTOEXEC.BAT file
contains multiple path statements for multiple start-up configurations,
Install may not modify the correct path. A similar problem might occur
if you have a dual-boot setup.

After you install cc:Mail, examine the AUTOEXEC.BAT file to verify that
Install modified the correct path statement.

7. Ignoring a Size Field
-------------------------

The Customize dialog box has a list box that includes a size field.
That field shows the default size of an application. If you customize
an application and delete features, the dialog box does not update
the size field, even though the application now requires less disk
space.

8. Selecting a Server Installation to Enable Organizer Group Scheduling
------------------------------------------------------------------------

To enable the group scheduling feature for Lotus Organizer,
you must manually run a Server installation. You cannot perform
a Server installation using the INSTALL.RSP file because the group
scheduling feature in Organizer is not added.

Follow these steps to enable group scheduling for Organizer:

	1. Open the Lotus cc:Mail 6.03 Install Program.
	2. Click the Install on a file server option.
	3. Click Next button.
	4. Under the Server Install or Network Distribution screen,
	   click Server Install.
	5. Click Next button.
	6. Under Select Lotus cc:Mail Applications screen, select all
	   options.
	7. Click Next button.
	8. Under the Install Option screen, select All Features-
	   Automatic Install.

The Install program will complete and add the Organizer with group
scheduling to the Server. Then end users can run a Node installation,
which can be an automated install using the INSTALL.RSP file or a
manual Node installation. Organizer with group scheduling will be
installed on their computers.

In previous versions, you were required to perform a custom Server
installation for this procedure.

C. AFTER CC:MAIL INSTALLATION

9. Reading Individual Application README Files
-----------------------------------------------

After you install cc:Mail, you can review the README files of the
individual applications for more information. The README files
reside in each application's directory (for example,
C:\LOTAPPS\CCMAIL\README.TXT).

10. Updating SMARTCTR.INI
--------------------------

If you reinstall a Lotus application but place it in a different
location, the LOTUS.INI file is updated to reflect the change
but the SMARTCTR.INI file is not. SmartCenter can no longer find
the reinstalled application on its icon palette.

For example, if you had Ami Pro on the C: drive, and then
reinstalled it onto the D: drive, SmartCenter would not find Ami Pro.

To solve this problem, follow these steps:

1. If SmartCenter was not running when you changed the location
   of the application, start SmartCenter.
2. Click the SmartCenter menu icon.
3. Choose SmartCenter Properties.
4. Select the application you want to change from the SmartCenter
applications list box, then click Change.
5. Enter the new command line path and working directory for the
application, and make sure the Icon palette box is checked.
6. Click OK.
7. Close the SmartCenter Properties InfoBox.

11. Creating Your Own Bitmaps
------------------------------

You can create your own bitmaps for the SmartCenter icon palette.
SmartCenter can use a bitmap of any size, and if you use a square
bitmap, SmartCenter will not alter the aspect ratio.

Do not add a 3D beveled edge to your bitmap, because SmartCenter
automatically adds a 3D edge when it places the bitmap on the
icon palette.
