MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
----------------------

To use Eudora Pro for Windows Version 4.0.1, you must have the
following:

- IBM PC or compatible.
- Microsoft Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0 or above.
(note: it is recommended that you have the latest
service pack for either operating system)
- Winsock 1.1 API compliant networking package
- A mail account with an Internet Service Provider or an
   Internet-style network.
- Access to your mail account via a modem or Internet-style
   network connection.

------------------
INSTALLATION NOTES
------------------

IMPORTANT: Before starting the installation of Eudora, please
refer to the section in this readme titled "Notes concerning
Eudora Pro, Apple QuickTime and Microsoft Internet Explorer".

Please refer to the Eudora Pro User's Manual and Quick Start
Guide for instructions regarding the normal installation of the
product.

* Note for upgrade installations

If the installation is an upgrade to an existing version of Eudora
a rare situation may occur where Plug-in icons might disappear
unexpectedly from the Eudora toolbar. If this happens, edit the
Eudora.ini file in your Eudora Pro folder and place a
semicolon (;) at the beginning of the line that starts with
"SeenPlugins=". Save the file, without making any other changes,
and restart Eudora. If you've previously removed plug-in icons
from the toolbar on purpose, this procedure will bring them back,
so you'll have to re-remove any that you don't want.

* Note concerning the Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 Installer

At your option, the Eudora installer will perform a silent
(non-interactive) installation of Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0
for you. If you wish to install Internet Explorer 4.0
interactively (for example, if a problem occurs during the silent
installation), you can do so by running ReinstIE.exe (or
ReMSIE.exe) from the Eudora Pro folder on the Eudora Pro
CD-ROM. If you downloaded your Eudora product electronically,
this folder is in the disk area into which you unpacked the
downloaded file.

* Note on mouseless installation

In the Choose Components panel of Eudora Pro installer, there is
no way to select or deselect components without clicking in a
checkbox. By default, Eudora Pro and PureVoice are checked, while
Internet Explorer 4.0 and Apple QuickTime are unchecked. If you
do not use a mouse, you can install Internet Explorer 4.0 by
launching ReinstIE.exe, and you can install Apple QuickTime by
launching QT32.exe. Both of those applications can be found in
the Eudora Pro folder on the Eudora Pro Email/CommCenter CD-ROM.
If you downloaded your Eudora product electronically, this folder
is in the disk area into which you unpacked the downloaded file.

----------------------------------------
NOTES CONCERNING EUDORA PRO AND:

      * APPLE QUICKTIME
      * MICROSOFT INTERNET EXPLORER (IE)
----------------------------------------

Eudora's standard message viewer supports basic HTML, such as text
formatting and inline images. Installing QuickTime adds support to
the standard viewer for inline display of a wider range of JPEG
images. Installing IE 4.0 adds an additional message viewer
(hereinafter, the IE 4.0 viewer) to Eudora that can accurately
display just about any HTML message you might receive. The
specific capabilities of the two viewers are listed near the end
of this section.

* Why should I care about displaying HTML messages?

HTML messages (email messages that use HTML, the language of web
pages) are becoming more and more common. The latest web browsers
allow a web page to be sent as an HTML message. If someone sends
you an HTML message that uses advanced formatting such as tables,
then to see it as it was intended you need to use Eudora's IE 4.0
viewer, as opposed to the standard viewer.

* If Eudora has two viewers, how will I tell it which one to use?

Just check or uncheck the "Use Microsoft's viewer" checkbox in the
Viewing Mail panel of the Options dialog, under the Tools menu in
Eudora. The checkbox is checked by default if IE 4.0 or 3.0 is on
your system. (Eudora's use of IE 3.0 is explained below.)

* What's the impact of installing QuickTime?

It'll take about a minute and use 6 megabytes of disk space.
Again, this adds support to the standard viewer for inline display
of a wider range of JPEG images. It has no effect when "Use
Microsoft's viewer" is selected.

* What's the impact of installing IE 4.0?

If you install IE 4.0 via the Eudora installer, it'll take up to
10 minutes, depending on the speed of your computer, and consume
about 35 megabytes of disk space. It doesn't install the full
package that you would get by installing IE 4.0 from Microsoft's
web site. The only effect on your desktop is that the channel bar
will show up. It will not make IE 4.0 your default web browser
unless your current default browser is an earlier version of IE.

The specific viewing capabilities that you gain in Eudora are
listed below.

The IE 4.0 installation performed by the Eudora installer is a
silent (non-interactive) one. If you encounter any problems with
it, refer to the Installation Notes section of this file.

* What if I already have Internet Explorer?

If you already have IE 4.0 on your system, Eudora will take
advantage of it automatically, so there's no need to have the
Eudora installer reinstall it.

If you already have IE 3.0 on your system, you have two choices:

1. You can leave it alone, in which case Eudora will use IE 3.0 if
you choose "Use Microsoft's viewer" in Eudora's Options dialog.
However, this doesn't provide all the functionality you get
with the IE 4.0 viewer (or even the standard viewer) - see the
   details below.
2. You can upgrade to IE 4.0 via the Eudora installer. This will
upgrade your IE 3.0 to version 4.0 (on Windows 95, this won't
take effect until after you reboot). You won't lose any
functionality, and all your IE settings and preferences will
   be preserved.

If you have aversion of IE earlier than 3.0 on your system,
installing IE 4.0 will not affect it. However, you must have
IE 3.0 or above in order for the "Use Microsoft's viewer" option
to take effect.

* What does Eudora's standard viewer support?

+ Bold, italic, and underlined text
+ Different font faces, sizes, and colors
  + Fixed-width text
+ Left and right justification and centering
  + Multiple indentation levels
  + Bulleted lists
+ Hyperlinks (clicking on a URL launches your browser and takes
    you to a web page)
  + Horizontal ruling lines
+ Inline display of BMP images and some JPEG images

* What does QuickTime add to the standard viewer?

Inline display of a wider variety of JPEG images.

* What does the IE 4.0 viewer do that the standard one doesn't?

+ Displays GIF, PNG and a wider variety of JPEG images inline
+ Automatic inline display of images from web sites
  + Numbered lists
  + Tables and forms
  + International character sets
+ Java applets, JavaScript, and ActiveX controls
  + Dynamic HTML
+ Other embedded objects (audio, video)

* What DON'T I get if I use IE 3.0 instead of IE 4.0?

  + Dynamic HTML
  + Editing of received messages
+ Running Eudora plug-ins (such as text translators) on received
    messages

If you're using IE 3.0, you can still edit received messages, and
run Eudora plug-ins on them, provided you first switch to the
standard viewer by unchecking "Use Microsoft's viewer" in the
Options dialog.

* What does inline image support mean?

This means that if there's a picture embedded in the middle of a
message, it'll display that way. Otherwise, the picture will be
an attachment and will display in a separate window when you
click on it.

* What if I want to install QuickTime or IE 4.0 later?

Just run the Eudora installer again when you're ready. When you
get to the panel in the setup wizard that lists the installable
components, check the additional component(s) that you want to
install and uncheck anything that you've already installed
(probably Eudora Pro and PureVoice).

---------------------------------------
NEW FEATURES AND CHANGES IN VERSION 4.0
---------------------------------------

NOTE: Eudora Pro 4.0.1 changes will be covered in another section

* Message preview pane in mailbox windows (with resize
     splitter).

* IMAP client support for storage and manipulation of mailboxes
and mail folders on IMAP4 servers.

* Support for composition and viewing of sophisticated message
formats. Includes support for full HTML rendering.

* Powerful Directory Services. Supports the querying of
multiple LDAP, PH and Finger servers simultaneously. (LDAP
     client support new in 4.0)

* New account setup wizard (also used for setup of alternate
     personalities/accounts).

* Make Filter command and dialog for easy creation of simple
     filters.

* New tool windows for filter reports, file browsing (e.g., for
dragging attachments to new messages), and easy access to and
management of stationery, signatures, and personalities.
     Window-specific context menus.

* Docking, floating, and grouping capabilities for all tool
windows (displayed from Tools menu). Generic context menu
with window-manipulation commands. All tool windows now have
tabs for activation in groups and for drag and drop.

* Eudora taskbar for pushbutton access to all open or minimized
     normal Eudora windows.

* Filters window: Filter action icons and ability to drag
filters up and down filters list to reorganize.

* Main toolbar can now be docked to any edge of main Eudora
window or to another dockable window.

* Tabbed dialog for main toolbar customization.

* New Redo command (Edit menu) and greatly extended multiple
     levels of Undo and Redo.

* Message -> Change Personality submenu.

* New date/time display scheme in messages and mailbox windows.

* OLE Automation of Eudora by external applications. Please
see http://www.eudora.com/developers for more information on
the OLE Automation capabilities of Eudora Pro 4.0.

* Single-click of mouse button launches attachments, replacing
     double-click required in earlier versions.

* In addition to the default behavior of spell-checker, which
is to bring up a dialog for misspelled words, you can now use
a SHIFT-spell check to simply underline misspelled words.
Right mouse clicking on misspelled words will provide a list
     of suggested corrections.

* Previewed Messages can be automatically marked as Read - By
default, this is unchecked in Tools:Options:Viewing Mail.

* Shift+Space key - This keyboard shortcut toggles the
read/unread status of a received message. This works for a
TOC list selection and in any received message or
     Preview pane.

* Tab-To-Next-Link in Preview Windows - Eudora interprets Tab
keys in mailbox windows according to a new INI setting
'SwitchPreviewWithTab' which is set to "1" (one) by default.
To enable 'tab-to-next-link' in preview windows, you must
manually add a 'SwitchPreviewWithTab=0' (zero) entry to the
[Settings] section of the INI file.

* You can now use <F6> as a keyboard shortcut to shift the
focus between the two sides of the address book.

------------------
LIMITATIONS IN 4.0
------------------

* Inserting pictures into composition messages is currently
limited to jpeg and bitmap files only.

* Backwards compatibility - Reverting to an earlier version
from 4.0 will not preserve customized toolbar settings made
while using 4.0. This may apply to some alpha / beta versions
     too.

* Eudora may have issues with the installation of certain
system DLLs if the user does not have administrative rights
and the file system in use is NTFS.

* When using Eudora's IMAP client capabilities with the
University of Washington IMAP server, a timeout can occur
when attempting to read an e-mail which consists of a single
line in the body of the message and the message contains an
     attachment.

* Eudora is unable to change the system's default e-mail
program if run by a user without administrative rights.

* Clicking on a nickname in a maximized address book and
exiting Eudora sometimes results in an abnormal shutdown.

* Address Book - Secondary address book files do not list in
     sorted order. Fixed in 4.0.1.

* Spell checker - The subject header is not checked for
     spelling errors.

* Dial Up - Auto dial and hangup not implemented for IMAP
     accounts.

* Multiple toolbars set up using this version will not be
     supported in later versions.

* File Browser window - The 'Send to' option does not offer a
     selection like the Windows explorer.

* Forward a message with Blah Blah Blah headers would not
forward the extra headers. Fixed in 4.0.1.

-------------------------------------------
NEW FEATURES, CHANGES, LIMITATIONS IN 4.0.1
-------------------------------------------

Be sure to check the bug fixes in 4.0.1 in a separate section.

* Long URL's are limited to 1024 characters.

* There is a new Tools-Options-Styled Text section.
Show formatting toolbar -- displays the formatting toolbar
          while editing a new message.
Discard style information -- does not allow styles to be sent
          with the message.
Send style information with mail -- allows styles to be sent.
But warn me first -- if styles are in the message being sent,
then a warning dialog will display.
Send plain and styled versions in message -- new feature
          which allows Multipart/Alternative formatted messages
to be sent. This means that a single message from you
is sent which contains a plain-text version and a
formatted version. Users who use email programs which
do not support HTML will be able to read the plain-text
version of the message without any of the cryptic codes.

* Offline is supported in Tools-Options-Incoming Mail.

* <Shift>-<Space> in the mailbox window will toggle the current
     message between read and unread.

* New button in composition window allows you to view invisible
     characters such as carriage returns.

* Tools-Options-Mailboxes is a new section which contains the
Mailbox columns to be shown, mailbox characteristics, and
behavior of dragging within the mailbox. Note that the new
setting "Select newly inserted messages (FUMLUB)" is here.
FUMLUB stands for First Unread Message Last Unread Block.
An unread block is considered a set of consecutive messages
which are all marked as unread. When this option is enabled
and an automatic mail check is performed, then the focus
will jump to the first message of the last unread block.
If FUMLUB is not checked, then an automatic check will not
change the focus on the current message.

* When sending a message with styles, it provides a new dialog
which warns you about sending styled text. It will also
present you with the options to send the message as a plain-
text message (formatting is stripped out), styled (formatting
is left intact), and plain & styled (a two-part message is
sent with the first part being plain-text and the second
     part being styled).

* A temporarily new option for IMAP accounts called "Remove
messages from server on delete" which was found in an IMAP
personality's Modify-Incoming Mail tab has been removed.
If you delete an IMAP message, it would place a red X in the
message's server status column. You would then have to
manually remove the deleted messages using either Message-
Remove Deleted Messages or click on the configurable toolbar
     button "PURGE".

When this option was checked, then deleting an IMAP message
would immediately startup the IMAP connection and delete
the IMAP message. We found that the problem is that an
accidental deletion would prevent the user from recovering
the deleted message. Unlike POP accounts, IMAP does not
have a consistent method of creating a Trash mailbox which
could temporarily store the deleted messages.

Because of the danger of accidentally deleting messages, we
removed this setting. If you desire this behavior, there
is an option setting that you can add to your Eudora.ini
file. This option would be added under your specific IMAP
     personality's section.
     IMAPRemoveOnDelete=1 (default is 0)

* IMAP setting to "Skip Attachments over X K" does not seem to
skip attachments > X K. Note that inline images are always
downloaded regardless of size. This behavior may change
in EP 4.1 but not 4.0.1.

* IMAP mailboxes/folders have some additional options in their
context menus by right-clicking on the mailbox.
Fetch - fetches messages not downloaded yet. The following
options are not available if the message has already
been downloaded. To redownload, see the next option.
"Include attachments" also fetches the attachment, but
this option is disabled if no attachments.
"Use defaults" uses the IMAP personality's settings.

Redownload - fetch or re-fetch messages not downloaded yet.
This option is useful if an attachment or message was
          corrupt. The following options apply:
"Include attachments" also fetches the attachment, but
this option is disabled if no attachments.
"Use defaults" uses the IMAP personality's settings.

Remove cached contents - changes message server status to an
open diamond which means that the message is not
downloaded. If you have the preview pane open, then
the current message will briefly change to an open
diamond and then back to a solid diamond because the
message is downloaded when previewed. The remedy is
to close the preview pane (press <F7> to toggle).

* When Eudora sends or checks mail, it utilizes the In, Out,
and Trash mailboxes. These mailboxes are created by the
system. As these mailboxes are often used, it is good to
maintain them. If you experience slow sending of messages,
then check to make sure that your Out box is not too full.
If you experience slow downloading of messages, then check to
make sure that your In box is not too full. It is good to
empty your Trash mailbox on a regular basis. It is also a
good idea to select Special-Compact Mailboxes to compress
your mailboxes so that they are not wasting any space. If
you need to clean out your In or Out mailboxes and need to
keep the information, it is recommended that you create
another mailbox and move the messages to the new mailboxes.

--------------------
STARTUP OR INTERFACE
* Improved help for tabbed windows.

*    Changed personality wizard bitmap.

* <F1> function key (display help) did not behave properly with
     our tabbed windows.

* The status bar help message for customizing the tool bar or
     status bar had problems.

* Out of disk space errors when installing Eudora.

* Context menus for IMAP-specific settings are now removed.

* No context-sensitive help for Make Filter dialog.

* In, Out, and Trash mailboxes could not be localized into
     other foreign languages.

* The mailbox icon when it has new unread mail will have some
     distortion in the icon.

* Can get stuck in Tools-Options-Getting Started section if
     there are fields left blank.

* Some issues causing crash at shutdown.

* Double-clicking a corrupt mailbox would sometimes cause
     Eudora to crash.

*    Owner.lok issue - Support for a setting in eudora.ini's
[settings] section. OwnerLok=0 implies no owner.lok file
will be created when Eudora is running.

*    Window width sizing issues.

* Fumlub ini setting (First Unread Mail Last Unread Block)
Users of Preview pane who don't like the currently selected
message changing after an automatic mail check. Fumlub=0
implies no fumlub selection on mail check.

* Added auto scroll and horizontal scroll style bits to the
     Directory Services details view.

* Toolbar was not correctly enabled/disabled when switching
     between panes in composition message.

* Some old toolbar Eudora.ini settings caused Eudora to crash.

* The long mailbox names get truncated to eight characters when
the corresponding .mbx and .toc files are created.

* Tools-Options-Styled Text had some user interface problems.

* Eudora is left running in the Task Manager when using IMAP.

* Crash on startup due to how your toolbar was previously
     configured.

*    Improved startup speed.

* Separators for toolbar buttons were not stored correctly.

* APOP passwords are not cleared even if they are incorrect.

* If there are no messages, then the Transfer menu and
     Next/Previous messages should be disabled.

* Trying to customize the toolbar multiple times disables the
     focus.

* Tips of the Day had grammar problems.

* Plugin icon disabled after saving a plugin processed received
     message.

-----------------------------
CREATING OR EDITING A MESSAGE
* Forwarding a message with the extra "blah blah blah" headers
would not send the extra headers.

* Forwarding or redirecting a message with an embedded image
would sometimes be received without displaying the image.

* The Eudora.ini's [Settings] section did not support TabStop=X
and TabSpaces=Y. X is a number which will be used to specify
a consistent spacing of tabs. For example, if TabStop=5 then
there should be a tab stop at 5, 10, 15, 20, etc. TabSpaces
is a toggle setting where TabSpaces=1 means that a tab
character is replaced with spaces. TabSpaces=0 (default)
means that a tab character is kept as a tab character.
We have seen it work best if you have TabSpaces=1, TabStop=X
where X is some number, and you have Tools-Options-Fonts
"Use proportional font by default" unchecked.

* The return read receipt dialog erroneously displays if you
try to cancel a message with the RR button selected.

* Some problems with sending plain/styled text.

* Formatting toolbar does not always display when it should be
     available.

* Font size changes ignored when printing with NT and Use
     Microsoft Viewer is unchecked.

* Eudora did not properly handle really long file names with
     their paths.

* Preview pane focus - some problems related to the Preview
pane grabbing the focus away from the TOC window.

* Ctrl+Tab would not switch between message windows when
     Microsoft viewer was enabled.

* Mouse selection behavior (select a block vs. start a
transfer)- Added setting in eudora.ini as
"DragSelectMessages" when set to non-zero will allow
drag-to-select if the selection starts on an unselected
     summary.

* Attachment converted lines in quoted text in enriched 3.x
     messages should not be clickable.

* Bulleted list line ending with a whitespace would cause the
     bullet formatting to be removed.

* Eudora message font sizes were not recognized in the built-in
     editor unless Eudora was restarted.

* Paste as Quotation did not work properly. It had problems
with redrawing, sending styles, and undo/redo.

* Cannot change font unless text was highlighted.

* Focus not being set back to message when changing font.

* Default font not shown when composition message comes up.

* Forwarding or redirecting a message received from Eudora
3.x would cause some lines to be removed.

* Changing message font would not get reflected in a new
     composition message until restart.

* Some plain-text messages get sent as formatted messages.
This problem may relate to changing Tools-Options-Fonts.

* "Discard styles" marked option would still show the format
     toolbar.

* Added support for styled text in Tools-Options-Styled Text.

* Stray newlines (\r\n) cause server problems when sending
     email.

* Cannot edit stationery after using it.

* Pasting into the subject field of a received message does not
     work.

* Problems when pasting copied text over Select all text of a
     reply.

* Replying with plain-text stationery to a formatted message
     will remove carriage returns.

* A message with quoted-printable text with an attachment and
signature which do not require quoted-printable does not get
     sent properly.

* Save As for signatures does not work.

* Some extended ASCII characters are not encoded properly.

* Editing a received message sometimes causes the message to
     not be viewable.

* Long messages in the Out box could not be edited.

* HTML characters encoded as &xxx were not being decoded
correctly when stripping HTML, if NOT followed by a
     whitespace.

* Invalid URL's did not display any warnings.

* Allowed to create a bad hyperlink such as linking a blank
URL to a piece of text.

----------------
VIEWING MESSAGES
* Printing was not preserving font size changes in some cases.

* Print Preview /Print would not print the second page of a
     document slightly over one page.

* MailJail would cause received messages to be missing the
body of the message. It still has a problem where MailJail
would cause some crashes after receiving some mail.

* Fixed width button's availability does not correspond with
the current font type (proportional or non-proportional).

* Some fonts were not being displayed properly.

* Printing problems with bolded courier font in Win 95.

* Takes a long time to preview a message with a lot of spaces
or a long plain text message.

* Cannot see a line with only a space.

* QuoteStart= and QuoteEnd= settings cause Eudora to not
     separate the quoted text.

* Message window width not properly adjusted for fixed-pitch/
     non-proportional font.

* Separate lines were combined following a bulleted list or
     indented paragraph.

* Lines indented an odd number of times would get unindented by
     one level.

* Non-breaking space characters (code 0xA0) are not changed
back to &nbsp when saving styled messages. Copy and paste
did not convert the non-breaking space characters to spaces.

* Some URL links were broken because they refered to a specified
main (base) URL. An example is a web page being sent through
Eudora, but some links are dependent on a main base URL.

* Long URL's which did not have an ending > or " caused a
     crash.

*    ExtraHeaders= setting with a URL in your Eudora.ini's
[Settings] section would place the URL in each of your
message's headers, but the URL's link would be broken.

* When URL's extended over multiple lines, the second line of
the URL to the end of the URL was getting duplicated.

* Formatted URL becomes a double URL when removing styles.

*    Some URL's caused problems.

*    URL's not handling &s properly.

* URL's did not check for // after the scheme name such as
     http and ftp.

-----------
ATTACHMENTS
* Attachments and embedded content were not being removed when
emptying the trash if the message was opened after the
     transfer to trash.

* Some attachment filename extensions were being improperly
     changed.

* Sometimes attachments are missing even though they are there.

* Attachments get named MimeAttachmentX where X is a number.

* Problem pasting images from clipboard where it continues to
     paste the first image.

* Black and white image attachments caused problems.

* Binhex inline images or attachments caused problems like some
of the codes displaying or crashes when replying to the
     message.

-------
PLUGINS
* MailJail would cause received messages to be missing the
body of the message. It still has a problem where MailJail
would cause some crashes after receiving some mail.

* Crash sometimes occurs when translating a message using PGP
or modifying a message using MailJail. There are still some
problems with using MailJail with Eudora Pro 4.0.1, but our
     developers are working on them.

* PGP-signed messages do not decrypt correctly.

* Made adjustments to better handle PGP.

* PGP attachments were not being opened with a double-click.

* Problems sending messages using PGP/Mime.

----
FIND
* Sometimes the text found using 'Find' is not visible.

----------
SPELLCHECK
* Shift-Spellcheck did not check for double words and context-
menu Delete is not available for such words.

*    AutoURL's were spellchecked.

----------------------
SEND/CHECK/FILTER MAIL
* Some programs which use MAPI to send messages through Eudora
caused problems because they did not specify information in
     the To: or Bcc: fields.

* The root icon in your mailboxes window will be modified to
eight characters if Eudora is called via a MAPI call such as
a "Send" command from another program.

* Eudora internal error - winsock not initialized. This error
or related error occurs if checking mail for POP or IMAP and
you click on the <Cancel> button for POP.

* Sometimes a filter shows up twice in the filter window.

* Skip rest in filters not working for IMAP messages.

* Replying to a subject consisting of all numbers would not
     append "Re:".

* Could not move filter to the bottom of the filter list.

* File attachments could not be pasted from Windows explorer.

* A mailbox which is opened by a "Transfer to" filter action
gets placed behind the In box. If no new messages are left
in your In box after filtering, then the In box was being
     left open.

* Send (queued messages) on check did not work for IMAP
     accounts.

* Crash when checking mail while Eudora is minimized.

* Changes to the filters sometimes are not saved.

* Formatted email is unreadable, difficult to read, or seen as
     an attachment.

* Sends queued messages even though they are being editted.

* Filter changes sometimes did not prompt to save changes. It
prompts to save after any change including changing to a
different filter. The latter part will be addressed in a
     future build.

* Progress window not showing up when switching to make Eudora
the current application while it is doing an automatic mail
     check.

* Progress window titlebar for personalities flashes.

* Sometimes messages get downloaded multiple times with Leave
Mail On Server enabled. Messages with multiple-line message
ID headers may be downloaded multiple times when connecting
to a POP server which does not support the UIDL command.

* Filtering action of open and transfer to often causes a
     crash.

* Offline mode (no connections) not available. Fixed for POP
     accounts in Incoming mail.

--------------
MAILBOX WINDOW
* Special-Compact Mailboxes closes any open mailboxes besides
the In, Out, and Trash mailboxes.

* Sometimes the last message would not preview in the preview
     pane.

* Some messages are not automatically being marked as read
even though you have Tools-Options-Viewing Mail-"Mark
previewed messages as read after X second(s)" enabled.

* Pressing <F7> while a mailbox is open will toggle between
displaying a preview pane and not displaying it. When the
preview pane is not displayed, it still was processing the
data as if the preview pane was present.

* Crash when a message is open and the mailbox that contains it
is closed. Depends on Tools-Options-Miscellaneous's "Close
     message with mailbox" being set.

* Mailbox TOC date field did not support long fields such as
     %1 %2 %3 %4.

* If a window was maximized and then closed, then the next
     window opened was not maximized.

* Some installations could not print in color.

-------------------------------
ADDRESS BOOK/DIRECTORY SERVICES
* Directory Services results view pane sizes were not being
     retained between sessions.

* Directory Services window did not have context sensitive
     help.

* Directory Services caused a crash on some Win NT machines
that are not running the latest Win NT 4.0 service pack.

* Ph in Directory Services now supports the command "siteinfo"
to retrieve domain information in Directory Services.

* Directory service (DS) query fails if DS window is left open
after an initial query and then you check your mail. Going
back to the DS window and trying to perform a query will
     fail.

* With Peanut installed, Make nickname would not place the
     nickname in the correct file.

* Finger in Directory Services would display Unknown tag. Now
     it displays a colon (:).

* Closing and re-opening the Directory Services would not
     preserve the window position.

* The query field in Directory services is not selected after
the query which makes it difficult to perform a different
     query.

* Eudora would freeze if you select Ctrl-Y (Directory Services)
     and then Alt-W.

* LDAP did not return the correct results for some servers.

* Address Book files are not in sorted order.

----
IMAP
* Novell's GROUPWISE IMAP server is now supported. Message
bodies can now be retreived and transfers of mail between
folders on the GROUPWISE server are now working properly.

* Auto removal of deleted IMAP messages caused some grief for
users if they deleted some mail that was important and it
completely removed the message (it is not in the Trash).
Although the setting has been removed from your IMAP account
settings of Incoming mail tab ("Remove messages from server
on delete"), the setting can still work in your eudora.ini
file. To add this setting, modify your eudora.ini file and
locate your IMAP personality. Add the following line:
     IMAPRemoveOnDelete=1
If this setting is set to 1, then deleting an IMAP message
will cause Eudora to connect to your IMAP server and delete
the message from your IMAP server. If the setting is not
present or set to 0 (default), then a deleted IMAP message
will have a red X in the server status column. To delete
the messages marked for deletion, select Message-Remove
     Deleted Messages.

* If you move an IMAP mailbox/folders, it will not resort the
     mailbox/folder order.

* Eudora has problems if you have an IMAP message open and you
close its IMAP mailbox when you have the setting
     Tools-options-mailboxes-"close messages with mailbox" marked.

* IMAP support for imbedded binhex and uuencoded messages such
     as vacation/sick reports.

* Problems if you drag and drop an IMAP folder onto itself.

* IMAP mailbox/folder trees are not sorted.

* Error message would display if you stop an IMAP command in
     the middle of its process.

* Cannot stop IMAP download while it is downloading the mailbox
     headers.

* IMAP password saved/not being saved properly. If you change
Tools-Options-Checking Mail-Save Password to be unchecked,
then you have to close and restart Eudora before the effect
     takes place.

* Fails to read IMAP message when using preview pane for some
     installations.

* MimeAttachmentX name given to IMAP attachments where X is an
     arbitrary number.

* IMAP mail transfer would place the wrong date on the mail.

* Focus does not return to TOC after Delete while in IMAP
     preview.

* IMAP mailboxes are not compacted with Special-Compact
     Mailboxes.

* Unable to move IMAP mailbox/folder to top/root level.

* IMAP setting to "Skip Attachments over X K" does not seem to
skip attachments > X K. Note that inline images are always
downloaded regardless of size. This behavior may change
in EP 4.1 but not 4.0.1.

* IMAP folders now autoexpand to show children folders when
attempting a drag-and-drop transfer and the cursor is over
     the IMAP folder.

* IMAP connection was not closed at times when the TOC (Table
of Contents) was closed which caused a crash on exit.

* IMAP would not display long file names correctly - caused a
     crash.

* Fixed message viewer not closing when Tools -> Options ->
Viewing mail -> Open Next Message is OFF and user clicks
     Trash.

* Binhex decoding was not being handled properly.

* Uudecode was not being handled properly.

* IMAP mailboxes were not being resorted in the mailbox list
     after getting renamed.

* IMAP Message statuses were shifted up by one when moving or
     filtering messages.

* If a new IMAP message is filtered into a mailbox, the
mailbox name does not change to bold until you open it.

* IMAP filter "Transfer to" causes the last filtered message to
     be marked read.

* Sometimes Eudora would crash when using the tow truck to
     transfer an IMAP message.

* Attachments sent from Mac are doubled when using IMAP.

* IMAP folders/mailboxes more than two-deep were not updated.

* Problems occurred when renaming an IMAP folder that contained
     other folders.

* Binhex was not supported for decoding attachments downloaded
     from an IMAP server.

* Alerts such as "New Mail" from IMAP do not work.

* IMAP progress bar had problems when downloading attachments.

* IMAP subject lines with quoted-printable characters were
     displayed incorrectly.

* IMAP always checks mail after POP check mail not matter which
     is Dominant.

* IMAP not checked when using <Ctrl>-<shift>-m.

* IMAP marks a message as read if it is dragged from one
mailbox to another. Fixed, but you cannot have the preview
     pane up.

* Transfer attempts fail after IMAP mailbox has been open for a
     while.

* Cannot drag-and-drop IMAP mailbox or folder to another IMAP
     mailbox or folder.

* IMAP inbox stops taking new mail.

* IMAP message move does not get updated when mailbox is open.
     Fixed by using asynchronous calls.

* IMAP has problems with filters which have two matching
criteria (i.e. To: ... "and" Subject: ...). Filters have
problems with multiple actions (i.e. Transfer to and Make
     Status).

* Problems when deleting an empty IMAP folder which is open.

* Multipart/Alternative (i.e. MS Outlook Express) is not
     handled properly with IMAP.

* IMAP problems getting attachments from Macintosh Eudora
     users when using Applesingle.

----------
AUTOMATION
* Automation registration fix to allow it to run on all Windows
platforms regardless of which ATL dynamic-link libraries are
     present.

* Fix to allow EuBroker object to be creatable with "New"
command in VB and CreateObject command in PERL.

* Added broker object to support easier object creation in
Visual Basic and to allow PERL to script Eudora.

*    Removed unused ISupportsErrorInfo interface

----------
EMSAPI SDK
* Problems when plugin returns EMSR_DATA_UNCHANGED status.

* Plugins that process MIME parts did not have access to the
     addresses structure of a message.
