        attempting to copy products.

o Corrected a data loss problem which could occur during an aborted
Borland Database Engine installation. If a user or error
interruption occurred during CIM 3.20 or CIM 3.20B installation,
prior BDE settings would be lost.

    Compaq Insight Manager 3.20

o Added support for Microsoft Windows 95.

o Changed the Device List (now referred to as Explorer
Device List) to allow for easier management of larger
networks. The new Explorer Device List is modeled after
the Windows Explorer in Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0,
providing most of the same functionality.

The Explorer Device List provides more flexibility in managing
your devices. With its new functionality you can:

       - Monitor the status of more devices simultaneously.

       - Sort the device list by multiple criteria.

       - Navigate to a device quickly by clicking on the list and
typing the name of the device.

       - Open and manage multiple Device Lists simultaneously.

       - View the group hierarchy and the device list simultaneously.

o Changed the Alarm Log to allow sorting by columns in ascending
or descending order. For example, to sort alarms alphabetically
by device name, select the Device column header. Each time the
column header is selected, the list is resorted, alternating
between ascending and descending sort order.

o Added a Global Settings option to the Setup menu. In earlier
versions of Compaq Insight Manager, if you wish to change
certain parameters, you are required to close the application,
edit the parameters in the CIM20.INI file, then restart the
        application.

From the new Global Settings window, you may now change
parameters related to servers, clients, automatic discovery
or automatic data collection at any time while Compaq Insight
Manager is running. These changes take effect immediately without
requiring the Compaq Insight Manager be stopped and restarted.
This new feature makes it much easier for you to adjust the
performance of Compaq Insight Manager and monitor the results.

o Added support for IDE drives on managed servers.

o Added SCSI Device Support for Client Management.

o Added Smart Cover Removal Detection in the Configuration
Security Screen for Client Management. Detects whether the
computer cover has been removed even when the computer is
        powered down.

o Added support for ProLiant 4-6E DT and ProLiant 4-6E DB
        Storage System.

o Added support for the Compaq 6/200 FlexSMP Dual Processor Board for
        the Compaq ProLiant 1500.

o Added support for Compaq Professional Workstations.

o Added support for the Novell Networking Client under Windows NT 3.51
        and 4.0.

o Added support for receiving traps from Netelligent devices.

o Added a Database Conversion feature which converts configuration
data collected by Insight Manager into smaller, more logical tables.
Although the current databases are ODBC compliant, they are
organized in a manner which makes them difficult to use when
imported to third party applications. The Database Conversion
feature converts the most used data -- static, configuration data --
into relational tables which are much easier to use for customizing
        reports.

o Added the ability to detect and issue an alarm when a Compaq 4/16
TurboDAT tape drive needs to be cleaned.

o Added the ability to detect and issue an alarm when the cleaning
tape in a Compaq 4/16 TurboDAT Autoloader has reached the end of
        the tape.

o Added support for version control of Compaq Integration Maintenance
Utilities (NetWare and Windows NT), the Array Configuration Utility
(both system partition and online), and the Compaq Insight Manager
       application.

o Enhanced threshold traps to make them clearer and easier to disable.

    Compaq Insight Manager 3.00

o Upgraded Compaq Insight Manager to a 32-Bit Windows NT 3.51
        application, providing enhanced capability.

o Added support for new hardware and options for ProLiant 5000.

o Added support for the Compaq Remote Insight board, an EISA-based,
single-board computer that is installed in a server to provide remote
access to the server regardless of the state of the host operating
        system or the host CPU.

o Added Server List filtering, which allows you to select which servers
will appear in the Server List. You may create your own filters or
choose from a set of pre-designed filters.

o Added support for downloading software from the Compaq Support
Software Server to the SmartStart Integration Server. The Compaq
Support Software Server is an Internet Server at Compaq that contains
operating system software, database software, drivers, patches, and
        Version Control Database updates.

The Compaq Integration Server is a server that has been designated to
supply operating system software, database software, drivers, and
patches to other devices over a network.

o Added support for alphanumeric paging.

o Upgraded asset collection and database format for improved
performance and ODBC compliance. The databases now use a Paradox
        format.

o Installing Insight Manager on the management console

o Installing Insight Management Agents on managed systems

o Installing Insight Management Desktop Agents on desktops

2.2.1 Installing Insight Manager on the management console

IMPORTANT: Exit all Windows programs and shut-down any
existing versions of Compaq Insight Manager before you begin
                this procedure.

To install Compaq Insight Manager on the management console
from the Compaq Management CD, follow these steps:

                1. Insert the Compaq Management CD at the management
                    console. Change to [cd drive:]\INSIGHT\WIN32\ENG
                    and run SETUP.

                2. Select Next at the Welcome Screen.

                3. Close all active Borland Database Engine applications,
                    then select Next.

                4. Enter your name and company name, then select Next.

                5. Select Yes to confirm your name and company name.

                6. If you are installing Compaq Insight Manager on a
Windows NT system, complete this step. If you are
installing Compaq Insight Manager on a Windows 95
system, the option to select Microsoft Systems
Management Server Launch Support is not available.

o Select Compaq Insight Manager 4.10 to install
Compaq Insight Manager or upgrade a previous
                       version of Compaq Insight Manager.

o Select Microsoft Systems Management Server Launch
Support to integrate Compaq Insight Manager with
                       Microsoft Systems Management Server.

                    Select Next.

                7. Type the name of the directory to which you want to
install Compaq Insight Manager or select the displayed
default location. Select Next to continue.

                8. Enter configuration options.

o Select Enable auto discovery of IPX servers to enable
automatic discovery of new IPX servers as they appear.
The auto-discovered IPX servers will automatically be
added to the Responsible Device List. The default is
enabled. If you do not manage IPX servers, disable
this item for better application performance.

o Select Enable auto discovery of Remote Console NVT
servers to enable discovery of remote servers through
NVT (NetWare Virtual Terminal) discovery. The remotely
discovered servers will automatically be added to the
Responsible Device List. The default is enabled.

o Enter the number of days that you want to pass before
the Version Control database is considered to be
"out-of-date". The default is 60 days.

o Select Maintain configuration to support existing
Win 3.1 applications to maintain your Borland Database
Engine (BDE) configuration for use with 16 bit
applications. If you do not use 16 bit applications,
disable this feature. The default is enabled.

                    Select Next.

                9. If you selected to install Microsoft Systems Management
Server Launch Support in step 6, complete this step.
If not, skip to step 10.

IMPORTANT: Setup assumes that the installation is
occurring on a Systems Management Server Primary Site
server, and that the Microsoft SQL Server Tools have
been installed. If this is not the case, the files will
be copied but the Compaq Insight Manager entry will not
be added to the Systems Management Server database.

                    a. Enter the path to the Systems Management Server
                        executable file (SMS.EXE). Select Next.

                    b. Enter the database name, administrative account, and
administrative password for the Systems Management
                        Server database. Select OK.

IMPORTANT: Do not confuse this with the administrative
account/password for the Windows NT server.

Setup invokes the ISQL.EXE utility with the ADDCIM.SQL
script, adding the Compaq Insight Manager entry to the
                    Systems Management Server database.

Setup also copies the appropriate files to your Systems
                    Management Server administrator console directory:

                    ADDCIM.SQL
                    DELCIM.SQL

IMPORTANT: If you enter your password, account, or
database name incorrectly, you may need to manually add
the Compaq Insight Manager entry. To add the entry, run
ISQL.EXE or ISQLW.EXE with the ADDCIM.SQL script. Be sure
to enter the name of your Systems Management Server
database into the script before you execute it. (ISQL.EXE
is the command line version of ISQLW.EXE.)

The command line would look like this:

                    isql -U<admin acct> -P<passwords> -i addcim.sql

To remove the Compaq Insight Manager entry, run ISQL.EXE
or ISQLW.EXE with the DELCIM.SQL script. Be sure to enter
the name of your Systems Management Server database into
the script before you execute it. This will remove the
Systems Management Server Launch Support from all Systems
Management Server Administrator consoles that reference
                    this Primary Site server.

                10. Select an existing group or enter the name of the new
group where the Compaq Insight Manager program items
                    should be placed. Select Next.

                    The current settings are displayed.

                11. Verify the options you have selected. Select Back to
change any settings. Select Next to begin the
installation and setup of Compaq Insight Manager.

Select to view the Read Me file for information on
                    new features, then select Finish.

                12. If you have not already installed the Insight Management
                    Agents, do so now.

         2.2.2 Installing Insight Management Agents

Insight Agents provide information to Insight Manager and
generate alarms if significant changes occur in the system
operation. You can install Insight Agents two ways:

o SmartStart Setup process - Refer to the SmartStart
                   Installation Poster for more information.

o Compaq Management CD - Refer to the Compaq Insight
Management Agents User Guide for the operating system to
be used on the managed systems.

IMPORTANT: You must install Insight Agents on the systems
(servers and workstations) you plan to manage. When
installing Insight Agents, the version of Insight Manager
running on the management console must be at least as new as
the most recent version of the Insight Agents you want to
install. This applies to all operating systems.

2.2.3 Installing Insight Management Desktop Agents

Insight Desktop Agents provide information to Insight Manager
and generate alarms if significant changes occur in the
desktop operation. Insight Desktop Agents are typically
preinstalled on Windows 95 Deskpro computers, or are on the
bundled Windows NT CD for Windows NT models. You can also
obtain Insight Desktop Agents through a SoftPaq, the Support
Software CD for Compaq Desktop Products, and the Compaq Web
                site.

Installing Insight Desktop Agents is a two-part process:

                o Installing local alerting capabilities

o Setting up communication with the Insight Manager console.
If Insight Desktop Agents are preinstalled, refer to the
online Intelligent Manageability User Guide for more
information. If they are not, refer to the Beyond Setup
Guide or the Reference Guide received with your desktop.

IMPORTANT: Insight Desktop Agents must reside on the
                desktops you plan to manage.

3. Compaq Insight Management Agents

It is recommended that the latest Compaq Insight Management Agents be
used on all devices that are managed using Compaq Insight Manager.

For information on upgrading your Insight Management Agents contact your
    Authorized Compaq Reseller.

4. Managing WINS/DNS devices from a management console running Windows 95

If you have IP devices in the Device List that are discovered via
the Windows Internet Service/Domain Name Service (WINS/DNS), your
system may experience a memory leak if the WINS/DNS devices can no
longer be discovered. This may cause performance degradation and
    system instability.

This problem has been fixed by Windows Sockets 2 for Windows 95. To
obtain this version, visit Microsoft's web site at
    http://www.microsoft.com/win32dev/netwrk/winsock2/ws295sdk.html. You can
also download this version by downloading ws295sdk.exe from Microsoft's
    FTP site at ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/bussys/WinSock/winsock2.

The file you download is a self-extracting file. Run it to extract the
installable images. In addition to the Windows Sockets 2 (WinSock2) files,
this will also extract files for the Windows Sockets 2 for Windows 95
Software Development Kit, which you can ignore.

Be sure to read the LICENSE.TXT and README.TXT files before installing
WinSock2. Even though the WinSock2 Setup application backs up the files
it replaces, you should also backup the files in the SYSTEM directory of
your Windows directory (usually C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM) before installing
    WinSock2.

When you are ready to install WinSock2, run the WS2Setup.exe program from
the SETUP directory in which you extracted the WinSock2 images. A batch
file is created that can be used to restore the original pre-WinSock2 files
if necessary. After installing, you must reboot your system. To uninstall,
    run WS2BAKUP.BAT.

If you do not wish to install Windows Sockets 2 for Windows 95, you can
avoid the problem by removing any unmanageable WINS/DNS devices from the
    Device List.

5. Unable to access converted Insight Manager databases from Office 97

If you are using the Convert Databases feature of Insight Manager to
export the configuration database to Paradox tables, you may not be able
to access those tables in Office 97. The Paradox drivers are not
installed when Office 97 is installed. To enable Office 97 to read the
Insight Manager databases, you must install the Microsoft Data Access
Pack. This is located in the ValuPack on the Office 97 CD or may be
downloaded from the Microsoft web site.

6. Unable to manage a clustered server

Ensure that the Clustered Server name has been entered in the Compaq
    Insight Manager Responsible Device List exactly as it appears at the server;
otherwise the cluster folder may not be created and the server will not be
    added to the folder.

7. Graying of buttons in data view windows

Buttons may become grayed in the data view windows for some monitored
servers if the monitored servers are running Compaq Insight Management
Agents versions 3.40 or earlier and either:

o Microsoft Windows NT 3.51 with Microsoft Systems Management
Server (SMS) 1.2 or above components

The SMS event log extension agent exposes a bug in Microsoft's SNMP
implementation on Windows NT 3.51. This bug causes incorrect data
to be sent to the Insight Manager console. (The SMS event log
extension agent is automatically installed and configured when
the SMS Client Inventory agent is run on an NT machine.)

    OR

o Microsoft Windows NT 3.51 or 4.0 with WINS (Windows Internet Service)

If WINS is installed and not running, the WINS SNMP extension agent
causes errors to occur which result in incorrect data being sent to the
       Insight Manager console.

To correct this problem at the monitored server, upgrade to Compaq Insight
Management Agents version 3.50 or above.

8. Disabling the automatic generation of internet web pages

Compaq Insight Manager automatically generates internet web pages,
which contain the Device List and the Alarm Log. These web pages make
it possible to view the managed device list and alarm information using an
    internet browser.

If you prefer not to have Insight Manager generate web pages, you can
disable this feature by adding the following setting to the CIM20.INI file
    under the [Web] section:

    DisableWebPages=1

You must restart Compaq Insight Manager for this setting to take effect.

9. Browsing to Web-enabled Agents through a Remote Insight Board

If you are running Compaq Insight Management Agents for Windows NT that
are web-enabled (Version 4.0 or above), you can browse to the agents
through the Remote Insight Board connection. If you are connecting to
a Remote Insight Board/PCI, Insight Manager will show the Remote Insight
Board as having web-enabled agents. However, when connecting to a
Remote Insight Board (EISA-based), Insight Manager will not show the
Remote Insight Board as having web-enabled agents. To browse to the
web-enabled agents, you must manually launch the browser. When the
Remote Insight board is configured in the Compaq System Configuration
Utility, the NT Graphical Remote Control setting must be Enabled. The
Server to RIB IP Address setting is the IP address that is required
for launching. The default address is 192.168.0.18. For example, to
launch to the web-enabled agents using the default address, you should
launch to http://192.168.0.18:2301/. (If you changed the default,
replace 192.168.0.18 with the address you configured.) The Compaq
Remote Insight Board WAN Driver must be installed on the server.
See the Compaq NTSSD documentation for more information. The
Remote Insight Board (EISA-based) must be running firmware revision
    1.10 or above.

You cannot browse to web-enabled agents on NetWare through the Remote
    Insight board connection.

10. Browsing to Web-enabled Agents and/or Remote Insight on Windows NT 3.51

Compaq Insight Manager does not support browsing to Web-enabled agents
through the Task List in Insight Manager on Windows NT 3.51. To browse
to Web-enabled agents, use the Insight Manager Web-based device list
    (available via the Button Bar).

Browsing to the Remote Insight Board home page is also not supported
in Insight Manager on Windows NT 3.51. To browse, enter the Remote
Insight Board's IP address in the browser (e.g. http://192.168.0.13).

11. Insight Manager Year 2000 Ready

Compaq Insight Manager has been tested for proper date rollover from
December 31, 1999 to January 1, 2000; and recognition of leap years, when
appropriate, for years 2000 through 2009 inclusive.

12. Compaq Insight Manager User Guide

In addition to the online context sensitive help currently available with the
Compaq Insight Manager application, the Compaq Insight Manager User Guide is
also available on the Management CD, in PDF format, and can be viewed or printed
using the Adobe Acrobat utility (located in the \DOCS\ACROBAT directory of the CD).

13. Product Support

When you call Compaq for assistance in troubleshooting an Insight
Manager problem, your customer service engineer may require complete
configuration and diagnostic information. Keeping good records of your
configuration can significantly speed the troubleshooting process. The
following is a list of items we suggest you keep handy when you obtain
assistance from your Compaq service provider.

o Management PC make, model, and serial number information.

o Size, date, and location of all Microsoft Windows files found
       in the \WINDOWS directory.

o Keep the following hardware configuration information handy:
       - A Compaq Survey Utility output or Inspect printout
       - A Compaq System Configuration Utility printout
       - A description of any non-Compaq equipment that is not
shown on the Inspect or System Configuration printout
